Question/discussion People on this sub defending Melissa for her behaviour towards Sari is crazy

First of all...I don't doubt that production had some involvement in the storylines colliding. HOWEVER, there is a lot of planning that goes into taking a child with needs as severe as Ari's brother's anywhere. This was likely planned weeks before it was announced the Ziegler girls were leaving.

Maddie and Mackenzie got years of attention. To end their Dance Moms experience, they got multiple goodbye specials, solos, Mackenzie got to do a hip-hop group dance which she loved at the time, and a "a send off" from the dance competition (that does not happen IRL). A way better ending than what could've been (look at how Chloe and some the other girls had to leave).

For Melissa to say "this was supposed to be about Maddie and Mackenzie and it's not" is WILD. And saying "I'm sorry this is your life" to Sari's face is cruel and insensitive.

People on this sub defending Melissa for her behaviour towards Sari is crazy.

Question/discussion Would you agree that the girls on the Junior Elite Team had more outside opportunities before the move to Los Angeles rather than after?

I ask this question because of another question posed on here a little while ago, where someone asked if people think that Abby delivered on the opportunities that she promised when the show primarily started filming in Los Angeles.

The question got me thinking, and I had realized that it seemed like the girls have more outside opportunities before the Los Angeles move.

Between seasons 1-5, when Dance Moms was still primarily being filmed in Pittsburgh, some of the opportunities the girls had were the Lux music video, Brooke’s music career and filming her music video for Summer Love Song, Mackenzie’s music career and the filming for her music video for Girl Party, the Freaks Like Me music video, the opportunity to audition for Drop Dead Diva, the Joffrey Ballet audition, their performance on The View, the Astra Awards, the Matty B music video, and the interviews they did with local TV and radio stations.

In seasons 6 and 7, when filming was primarily in Los Angeles, the only opportunities that I remember the girls getting to do were the ALDC LA commercial, the Electric Kicks commercials, the brand itself no longer exists I believe, and the Seventeen magazine photoshoot.

Why do you think that might be? Do you think maybe the opportunities dried up overtime, or do you think that production might not have allowed the girls to do as many outside opportunities during filming?

Podcast Kendall’s New Ep with Kira

Kendall has had Kira on the podcast this week.

I’ve just watched it on YouTube and I found it interesting that she said looking back she’d defend other people (Christi, Jess and Nia is who she mentioned) and definitely not stick up for Melissa. Saying she’d call her out on everything she said.

Kira said her and Kalani were in Pittsburgh the entire week of the infamous duet, learning it with Maddie. She said Melissa basically lied all week because apparently Kalani was staying with Melissa the entire time.

Kendall seems surprised when Kira said Kalani stayed with Melissa that week - Kendall said she thought they learned the duet months ago and Kira says no.

I’m not surprised as I know it’s speculated that Melissa and Kira do not get along nowadays.

Has anyone else listened/watched yet? Intrigued on people’s thoughts!

Jessalynn and Jill are Such ***** to Brynn

• Upvotes

I am watching season 6 episode 23 and I cannot believe how rude Jessalynn and Jill are to Brynn. ESPECIALLY JESSALYNN. AND THE OTHER MOMS ARE NOT SAYING ANYTHING. I am totally turned off of both of them from these few episodes. It's gross actually.

Question/discussion S3 E8 “you’ve been unfriended”

i just noticed in a small clip when they were showing the girls dancing that paige has her hair entirely down while dancing & turning… but chloe got absolutely reprimanded for that..? i’d understand abby letting it fly under the radar if it was maddie, or kenzie even.. but she didn’t like paige as much as she didn’t like chloe either, so why pick & choose?

Question/discussion Unpopular opinion. Cut Out Abby Scenes

This might be an unpopular opinion, but i am rewatching dance moms and it seems they cut out a lot of the scenes where abby was being a vile human and made it seem like the moms were just getting angry randomly. As if abby said nothing and they moms were just saying random things that made no sense to abby. Like obviously Abby said something but they cut it out?! whyyy!!

was it maybe too horrible to air?! The producers seemed to protect abby ALOT.

Also a lot of the guest stars today say abby wasn’t that horrible and that is very apparent in the show, she’s definitely A BUTT LICKER to guests and treated them a lot nicer than the OG girls (Nia, Kenzie, Paige, Brooke and Chloe).

Also abby reacts to every situation like a 5 year old and cries. But when the real children cry it’s an issue for her🙄

Question/discussion when did a mom failing to speak up bother you the most?

hi guys. i’m asking this question because i’m doing a final research project on dance moms and it’s relevant to my topic!

i made it to s6, my least favorite season. each rewatch makes me angrier and angrier to the point where i have to skip over most of the episodes now.

i know it’s been talked to death on this subreddit, but it deeply upsets me that no one stuck up for brynn, and it upsets me that no one called jill out for being awful. i could not stay silent while i watched a friend of mine tear someone down as horribly as jill tore down a child and her mother. ashlee is not innocent by any means, but her behavior pales in comparison to jill’s, and i truly feel bad for her bc it seemed no matter what she said or did she could not win. jill yells at ashlee for talking about kendall when jill cannot quit obsessing over brynn, and is much crueler about it.

Question/discussion Question about Christi..

So I’m watching for the first time as an adult mom (watched this back in the day as a teenager when it was airing) and I’m a few episode in to S1. Does Christi seriously bring her poor toddler to practice for hours and hours every day?! Or is it just the show exaggerating how long they practice?

The show makes it seem like they’re there from right after school until 9/10pm and the moms stay the whole time. I feel bad for the dancers themselves but for some reason Christi’s toddler being stuck in the observatory for hours and hours with nothing to do is really bothering me. Why don’t the moms drops them off and come back to get them after practice? I’m guessing part of the shows contract?

They where 7 and 8 almost 9 competiting 9-10 294.

To me Abby face did my two youngest just beat everyone in this age despite being younger espically boys.

My thoughts 294 being judged age division up is very impressive.

I think way annoucer asked question confused them.

A weird (and sad) coincidence

In light of BTTB starting to recap season 6, I recently thought of an interesting parallel on the show between Chloe and Brynn.

Two of the hardest episodes for a lot of fans to watch are S3E23 ("Two Girls, One Solo") and S6E23 ("Abby's New Beginning"). These feature the "You Can / Be Anything" scoring blunder and the moms' genuine bullying of Brynn (and somewhat Ashlee), respectively.

While the S3 episode has quite a few positives (Brooke on top of the pyramid, Christi and Jill being investigators, Asia crying about her dad's dog that died before she was born, Kelly and Christi rekindling their friendship, and the Living with the Ribbon group dance) and the S6 episode is a straight hard watch (Jill & Jess gaslighting Ashlee over social media hate, the moms confronting a child for crying, Yadi's mom lying, and the fallout from Brynn's duet), there's actually quite a few similarities in the situations at the end of both episodes.

Chloe and Brynn's incidents:

- episode 23

- little blonde girls

- yellow costumes

- a uniquely stressful set up (same choreo vs. duet with a boy)

- a "miscommunication"

- evil adults that relished in seeing a child upset

Side note: I have always felt like Jill and Jess felt like (or thought they'd be perceived as) the new Christi and Kelly. They were somewhat of a dynamic duo in season 6 and made sure to "call out favoritism". In S6E23, their whole argument is about the favoritism of Brynn, though they go about it horribly. The difference between C&K and J&J is the former wanted the best for all the kids, while the latter were like a parody of them, doing all the things that people accused C&K of doing.

That's all. I feel sick watching either of those episodes...or at least I did the first time watching them, because I haven't watched them since! I do feel like Chloe and Brynn were given a uniquely horrible time on the show, with Nia close behind. Shame on the producers and every adult that stood by and allowed it.

Question How did the Season 8 team and the New Era dancers get away with such extravagant props?

Disclaimer, I am not a competitive dancer, but seeing them take up the whole stage with huge or messy props makes me wonder about the competition aspect being fake/not accurate. Do they even allow that? Do they stick out? I guess maybe less realistic and more like a stage production for a show. I’d love to get some viewpoints on this.

Example: water and ashes, candles everywhere, confetti

A Funny Thing That Happened

So I have Dance Moms on in the background quite a bit when I'm getting other stuff done around the house. For whatever reason, during the season five "Wild, Wild West Coast" episode, my Alexa picked up that Mackenzie got the starring role. Alexa then suddenly says something along the lines of, "Congratulations! What role is Mackenzie starring in?" Like, how in the world?? lol

Maddie and sia

Correct me if I am wrong or have mistaken some things, but I find the Maddie and sia relationship pretty strange. I read a while back that Melissa pretty much gave Maddie to sia for long stretches. Its been a while but i think i read they shared a bed as well. And I think I saw somewhere sia got her a necklace with both their names and a heart which is kinda weird. The whole thing is just kind of bizarre.

Sia said Maddie was her muse and it just gives me the ick. She was a child and Sia a grown adult. I dont care how famous someone is, as a parent I would have major red flags .

Question How long until people stop talking about Dance Moms and it becomes a dead fandom?

I’ve been thinking about this lately because the hype for this show has had such a weird timeline. It obviously came out forever ago, and for a while, it felt like it kind of died off and people stopped caring. But then it had that massive resurgence out of nowhere with all the TikTok edits, memes, and reunion stuff. Obviously, it’s entertaining and a fun show to rewatch and talk about! But will everyone just keep talking about the same old stuff for years to come, and will the fandom just run out of things to talk about? Lately, though, I feel like I haven't really been seeing a lot of people talking about it anymore. It seems like the wave is slowing down again. How much longer do you guys think it actually has left before the fandom completely dies out for good? Do you think it’s on its way out right now, or will it just keep having random cycles where it pops back up every few years?
