My cousin developed at a very young age. After school, she had to walk home through her neighborhood where homes were still being built. She was cat-called every single day starting at age 9. Her mom thought this was great and highly amusing. That poor kid had so many issues.
God I can imagine she does. I'm a CSA survivor who really struggled to reconcile "it's just boys being boys" with the fact that actually, I was perfectly well within my rights to hate being objectified and that my feelings mattered. Some men just don't think, and the fact that many will disapprove of their friends doing this sort of thing and then say nothing speaks volumes. Then they wonder why women are sometimes hostile if they approach them completely innocently. It's because we have been conditioned from a young age to be on guard.
This was my parents! What is that? They LITERALLY laugh out loud when I was aggressively flashed by a guy while I was out alone jogging or left me alone sniggering while fully grown men talked to me about where they lived, gearing up to ask me out (I was 12).
