Surprisingly, the reasoning has nothing to do with companionship offered by public transport. It’s actually mostly about the environmental impact and inner city traffic congestion. A diesel bus is much more fuel and space efficient than moving the same number of people, each in their own two-ton car. Electric trolley buses are even more green.

Nobody gives af about being green enough to give up their cars.

You might not, people who have even the slightest bit of concern for anyone but themselves might tho

Nobody cares that much about being anti-green to vote for a government which repeals all fuel taxes, all emissions requirements, etc. Probably because people don't actually want to live in a smoggy polluted hellhole.

Hmmm it’s almost like there’s a middle ground

People will care when their homes are destroyed by flooding or their relatives die from heat

Biking everywhere is extremely popular in my city, for this exact reason

There are lots of people who don't drive cars 😂

Also traffic accidents, needing less parking space, not requiring everyone to own a car just to be able to get places.

If anything the environmental impact seems more like a bonus than the main reason, but that probably depends on who you ask.

Well, I did mention inner city traffic congestion AND space efficiency. Your elaboration on what that means is appreciated, but it’s not like I was unaware of those factors.

I kinda read over that tbh, my bad.
