Discussion A wave of data transfer 🤣
The peak and trough is exactly the same 😭 on a flash drive marketed as a usb 3.0 🤡

You have no idea how rare this is.

it isn't?
any flash drive that is slightly shit will have such issues. as it fills it cache up, it stops receiving more files from Windows. Once the cache is under a preset threshold full, it continues requesting files, and pulls more from Windows.
Also depends on firmware within the flash drive, some will just rate limit themselves to whatever speed the cache gets written to NAND.

I have my old desktop lying around lol so I'm trying to reboot it but it already runs win10 normally so I'm going with Arch instead of a lightweight

there is limitations due to NAND and certain operations. You're also using the normal windows copier, which is woefully slow. Its kinda sad that I have to say that its better to use terracopy in comparison.
Anyways, there could be several things making your transfer slow, the drive getting hot, the drive's cache being filled up... or just a bad drive in general. What USB drive did you get? My ventoy drive is a Sandisk SDC274, its a great little thing, usually transferring over 150-250 MB/s for me, until it gets very hot and... yeah (I ended up just... slapping a small heatsink on it for a bit, made that 5 minute window to a 8-9 minute one). But hey still 4-5 minutes of higher transfer speeds!
