How is there always a version that fits the posts perfectly?

u/chronicallylaconic 2d ago
The thing I find weirder is that, in my experience, it's always the first comment in the top comment chain that gets it exactly right, and never/rarely the top comment itself.

Takes a bit of time to to edit it, which happens with them. The default one is saved in my folder.

They take the original and use AI to replicate the effect then post it as if it was original

How come Im only learning about this recently. Was this not as prevalent of a problem 10 years ago?
I have an IPS monitor that is 15 years old and a TN one that is over 20. Both still work though one has some dead pixels and the other has a yellowed, dim backlight.
I'm surprised that a screen from 2023 would be failing like this

Rip your LCD
I'd recommend LED, if you want a cheaper but more reliable monitor, or OLED if you're ready to ball out on a monitor with amazing colors and great dark scenes

u/SimpleFile 2d ago
Liquid crystal displays (LCD) have LEDs behind them, otherwise you wouldn't be able to see anything.
Everything but micro-LED and OLED are LCD.

Your LCD is growing bacterial cultures. Try penicillin.

So you can try a couple things, at this stage. I would do as one poster suggested and plug in an hdmi cable to an external monitor.Â
Odds are, the laptop's display or the display cable is going. If you are willing to try it, look up a video on YouTube for how disassemble and reassemble your laptop type. Pop the bottom half with the keys open and look for a thin, black cable that has a square plug and disappears into the hinge connecting your laptop keyboard/motherboard and screen. Check the connection on the motherboard, check the cable for damage.Â
If there's still nothing obviously wrong, time to pop open the casing around the display. You'll probably need one of those plastic or metal electronics spatulas, like they use to pop open smart phones. Take your time and dont rush it. Once you've popped open the screen casing, you can inspect the display cable to see if it's damaged or partially unplugged.Â
If there's still nothing obviously wrong, look around for a brand name and serial number to order a replacement. AliExpress tends to have those sorts of things. And replacing a screen isn't too hard, especially if you've already pulled it apart to check for damage.
Good luck! IM me if you want more help, but be warned I'm not on Reddit every day.

Looks like a cracked screen. Could also be a water damaged LCD controller board try to dry it out but if you used it in this state it's likely permanent.

Could try dropping the res/refresh rate, lower bandwidth consumption might drop it to a point where its less stressed

All these people saying you are doomed is crazy. I had this happen if GPU acceleration was enabled in discord. I transferred my data to a new laptop and same issue. Turns out I needed to do a clean GPU driver install and it fixed

It seems like it's the display's fault especially since it happens when you mentioned.

I've actually had this on my last laptop. It fixed itself after reinstalling windows, reinstalling the drivers and updating the BIOS. I have no clue what caused it and this is the first post I see about it

Something like this happened to me before!! Does this only happen in some programs? Mine did. Try turning off image sharpening in the nvidia control panel. It fixed it for me.

Could be a virus, best bet is to just buy a new monitor, and I'm ngl.. I'd avoid that brand in case it's something with them and not a virus

Turn of sharpening in the Nvidia control panel in advanced 3d settings. So many dumb comments in the comment section.

Time for a replacement LCD screen. It looks like it's in the process of crystallising into solid.
