New composter giddiness
As someone who has wanted to compost for YEARS and is finally getting into it, I can’t seem to get over the giddiness and being impatient lol. Everyday when i go outside to feed her I find myself being like is it compost yet… is it compost yet…. I’m also definitely getting on my sweet husbands nerves with how much I’m talking about it even if he won’t say so. I’m just having the time of my life haha.
Sorry for the silly post but just wanted to share my excitement.
Happy composting :)

I feel you! I started last week and haven’t shut up about it LOL. My wife now checks with me any time we eat anything - “do I have to save this for the compost?”

You've named your pile too? Omg! My recurring garden waste pile is The ROTweiler. I even made it it's own Instagram account (pressed by some friends) and it became quite an alter ego

The best is forgetting about it for awhile and then its gold once you turn it

It’s kind of like being a kid and playing with mud pies…but then the added magical and scientific transformation aspect that really makes it for me! And I have to be present and my mind has to be quiet enough to really notice what I’m seeing. It’s like “mindful nature play science”! And exercise when I’m doing farmer’s carries and all the hauling of composting inputs and outputs.
So happy for you that not only are you on your way to getting quality compost, but that you are already getting a lot of joy and wonder out of this!
And as you can already see by the other comments, you are not alone on the impatience front. I have a daily stare at my giant pile outside while waiting for my morning coffee, trying to see if it’s steaming. And my husband gets to be amusedly bewildered by my fanaticism, so that’s a bonus!

Yes! You've found your people. Most people in your life will tolerate composting, but well celebrate it!
Last weekend I was using my first finished compost in my garden and was so giddy I took my bucket inside to show my teenagers. I asked them to guess what it was. They both confusingly said "soil". I said, "IT'S MY COMPOST, THAT I MADE!" They were surprised and then I had them smell it. Haha. I'm a weirdo and they know it.
I'm so excited for you! Composting is actually what got me into gardening, I know for most it's the other way around, but when I discovered it, I was enamored by all of it.

I don't understand your husband. Have me instead, we can have compost girls' night every night!
j/k, I understand completely. Making dirt is my favourite garden thing nowadays. Every time a pile heats up I feel like a witch! I read this sub while having my morning coffee like flicking the a glossy magazine except it's someone showing off wood chips or maggots LOL I've found my tribe.

I have been composting since 7/24 and I am O B S E S S E D with it. Like, fully possessed-obsessed. I get so sad when I don’t have any deliverables for the day and just long for the time I’m ready for the next layer. I’ve even recruited my family members to start saving their kitchen scraps for me, haha.

Buy a thermometer. That way you can follow the process. You can even buy a digital, so it presents you a graph.

When temps are rising, you let it just sit there. Only when temps are falling you can play arround and see what it needs to rise again.
I'm going to harvest and seeve my compost this week. Have 2 bins and compost until now. Just before winter i start over again with new batches before my material get's cold. I really enjoy getting a new batch started and keep it warm whole winter while it freezes outside.

Lol I started composting a couple months ago, and I still check the pile temp every day. It was 140F yesterday before I added more leaves and alfalfa to it.
As the leaves are falling, I've got a second pile going, and I'm looking at it, cackling, and thinking "Go, man, go!"

I read this as “new composer giddiness” and was very confused as to what sub I was accidentally in.
Glad you’re enjoying it!
