That relatable moment when you're a new hire in a company and you ask tons of questions qll the time and everyone hates you 😊😊😊😊

376

u/MilkGuzzler99 Oct 21 '25

Hey Elodie, the CEO called! He said if you don't stop asking everyone in the office stupid questions he's sentencing you to bugfixing for the rest of your career

242

u/shave_your_eyebrows Shave Your Eyebrows Oct 21 '25

'Hey senior developer! How do I call a drone strike on milkguzzler99's house?'

148

u/MilkGuzzler99 Oct 21 '25

Oh yeah? Well, you misspelled 'all', so shut up

85

You really pwned them.

1

u/ArcticWolf_Primaris Oct 21 '25

Not as bad as using light mode

44

u/silfreed Oct 21 '25

Generally we try not to shit on the new hires when they make a mistake - it’s a failure of the company if they were put in a position that that was possible.

I could see Amazon blaming a new hire though. They don’t care about anyone.

44

u/shave_your_eyebrows Shave Your Eyebrows Oct 21 '25

Lmao I was exaggerating a bit, when I was a new hire in my company they were very very nice to me (also I'm really good at power automate so I made the company's bonus system lol)

2

u/ze_ex_21 Oct 21 '25

The new hire should've known better that trying to divide by zero /jk

4

u/Feeling_Inside_1020 Oct 21 '25

Now write "I will not push a hotfix to prod without testing it on beta first" 1000x in JIRA and we will forgive all.

If it's a Friday push, we are throwing hands.

2

u/shave_your_eyebrows Shave Your Eyebrows Oct 21 '25

REAL GAMERS TEST IN PRODUCTION GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

1

u/Feeling_Inside_1020 Oct 21 '25

Everyone has a beta and prod environment. Some are lucky enough to have separate ones.

1

u/shave_your_eyebrows Shave Your Eyebrows Oct 21 '25

Absolutely FIRE quote

5

u/Feeling_Inside_1020 Oct 21 '25

This screen brings me back to a troll malware that would play at full volume "you are an idiot a ha ha ha ha ha haaaa ah ha ha haa haaaaa" on repeat with popups ever couple of milliseconds.

Was hilarious, please tell me someone else remembers that. Late 90s early 00s.

3

u/ducttapetricorn Oct 21 '25

2

u/Feeling_Inside_1020 Oct 22 '25

Bless you, that’s the one lol. Also partly why I got into the IT industry was as a teen: you learned real quickly what to trust/not trust & when you gotta fix your own shit lol

2

u/azuratha Oct 22 '25

Me too, I am glad to see I wasn’t the only one

2

u/SlyJackFox Oct 21 '25

I feel this very acutely. I was the expert in my section and everyone came to me to answer and fix things. Then a coworker left for six months so that had to fill his spot … and choose me. I knew nothing about his position or the manner of work, but the bosses were like, “You’re an expert over there in (completely unrelated) area, right smarty? You’ll figure it out.”
Now a couple months in I’m constantly told to just remember everything, don’t take notes, don’t ask questions, they’ll show me how to do something once in an annoyed huff and then expect perfection forever after. So much fun that I started getting hives when at work … I just begged for my old spot back the other day.

1

u/cherrybomb_kicker Oct 22 '25

Or don't ask questions and everyone gets mad because you're doing everything wrong 😭

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Oct 21 '25

So I'm at Disney world for the week and I'm not kidding when I say this outage literally brought all fast passing and purchases in the park to a SCREECHING halt. It was straight up amazing. Like 0 backups and a lot of places were cashless

94

u/Its_Pine Oct 21 '25

Airlines were impacted. Businesses that use services through venmo or other payment systems were all down. Restaurants couldn’t close out orders. My agency’s payroll department couldn’t process payroll due to ADP being impacted. Hell I couldn’t even schedule my dentist checkup.

It’s amazing how it brought a huge swath of the economy to an immediate stop, which highlights just how fragile and vulnerable we are with relying on a single private company for everything.

44

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '25

3

u/Testuser7ignore Oct 22 '25

The opposite. It shows how effective targeted strikes are. If 5% of every company stops showing up to work, things keep running. If a much smaller concentrated group(like all the teachers or power plant workers) stops showing up, then it derails things.

1

u/Its_Pine Oct 23 '25

Yeah, this is my thinking too. A concentrated strike (IT professionals, teachers, engineers, etc) can bring things to a halt much faster than general strike.

17

u/FuuckinGOOSE Oct 21 '25

Buddy of mine works for social security, and their systems were kneecapped all day yesterday

3

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '25

but google and Microsoft offer cloud services..

13

u/Its_Pine Oct 21 '25

They do! Luckily my Microsoft-based programmes all worked during the outage because they have their own service. But a huge amount of companies (and government agencies) use AWS, and so a large percentage of companies and some government functions were suddenly offline.

13

u/shave_your_eyebrows Shave Your Eyebrows Oct 21 '25

And you didn't even invite me smh 😢😢😢😢😢

5

u/leomonster Oct 21 '25

So if Jeff Bezos one day decides he no longer wants Disney in the world, he can simply power off his data centers and that's it?

6

u/shave_your_eyebrows Shave Your Eyebrows Oct 21 '25

Amazon's stock rose yesterday because of the outage making people realise how many big companies rely on being allowed to use Amazon computers for stuff

4

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '25

man when i was studying system design, they were always big on high availability and redundancy...I guess in theory this is what you're SUPPOSED to do

24

u/shave_your_eyebrows Shave Your Eyebrows Oct 21 '25

Pfffffffffffffft literally who is that mf

56

u/Sarcosmonaut Oct 21 '25

Dennis Nedry. He was a computer programmer in the first Jurassic Park film, and (spoilers for an old movie) he wrecks the park systems on purpose to cover his escape from the island with dinosaur embryos for corporate espionage. He doesn’t make it lol

Anyways the computer systems all displayed that little gif of him mocking the people trying to use the system

The actor’s name is Wayne Knight

28

u/shave_your_eyebrows Shave Your Eyebrows Oct 21 '25

Oh noooooo I've been outed as a complete movie-buffoon 😭😭 (I'd rather play games instead you see)

I summon my mouse-counter

4

u/the_walking_derp Oct 21 '25

Or, perhaps you yourself are a dinosaur embryo. Or human embryo. I dunno I'm in my 40s, and all you little whippersnappers need to get off my lawn!

5

u/shave_your_eyebrows Shave Your Eyebrows Oct 21 '25

THE FUTURE IS NOW OLD MAN

2

u/the_walking_derp Oct 21 '25

Jurassic Park was an enormous part of my childhood. My family had a VHS copy I wore out watching damn near every day while playing in the living room floor with Star Wars Lego. Now if you'll excuse me I need to drink my metamucil and hit my Lifealert pendant. I've fallen, and I can't get up!

Blaughh another item on the list of shitty things that company does

Go back to selling books assholes smh

3

u/Umklopp Oct 21 '25

Wait. My kids have been talking about the "You are an idiot" computer virus for weeks. I thought it was nonsense they made up for the bit. I know that's not what caused the outage, but are you telling me that's a real virus?

7

u/Ceadol Oct 21 '25

Not OP, but this has been around since like 2003 or longer. It's not a virus, but it was a web page that tells you "don't click this button" or something like that. If you do, it pops up a screen that says "You are an Idiot, ha hah hahahaha". If you close it, it opens two more in its place, like a shitty Hydra.

Eventually, it crashes your computer and you have to reboot. No permanent damage, it doesn't come back, it's just a thing people used to do to each other on the internet. I remember getting banned from an old message board because I kept the link in my Forum Signature, describing exactly what would happen if you clicked it.

The guy running the forum and game it was dedicated to clicked the link and took the whole game server offline for a while and he banned me. I haven't thought of that dumb link in years. I'm not surprised that most people forgot about it/didn't know it existed.

3

u/Umklopp Oct 21 '25

Amazing, lol

2

u/Hexatona Oct 21 '25

Impressive that they managed to get a virus from the 90's to run on a modern server - props!

2

u/mumbles_gh Oct 21 '25

You know I was just thinking about that site - was it multiplayercheats.de ? The song will live in my head forever
