Spider-Man 3 is still a banger. I rewatched the entire trilogy this year and SM3 was the most enjoyable

You know the meme, "What's your 'I did not care for the godfather?'" Mine is that I do not have a problem with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I am also a lukewarm defender of the other two.

The start of X-men Origins: Wolverine is great. It does get worse over its runtime. It does Deadpool dirty. They took it to the Merc without a Mouth literally.

Forever is great 👍🏻

It was a very successful pivot from the Gothic Expressionism of the Burton films to something more like the color silliness of the 60's show. It's just taking something dark and serious and making it more lighthearted is generally treated by a lot of people as just inherently a downgrade, regardless of all other factors.

u/Neveronlyadream 2d ago
I don't remember hating it when it came out. That was Batman & Robin. It's not a terrible movie. I suppose if you wanted more Burton, you'd have been pissed, but WB was going for flashier and more family friendly and this at least tried to strike a balance.
For what it's worth, Schumacher also wanted to go much darker, but having seen overviews of that version of the script, it seems like it wasn't going to work. There was still too much silly and it would have been tonal whiplash.

When think about it bro. jim Carrey as riddler and Tommy Lee Jones as two- face. They could've built there own universe from this film alone

u/CrimsonAvenger35 2d ago
I think Jim Carey is capable of playing a good Riddler. The problem is instead of playing Riddler, he just played himself
6
u/therealgreenbeans 2d ago
That was probably more the studio/director trying to get their 5mil worth out of him as his next two films were Cable Guy and Truman Show

And Tommy Lee Jones was a bad Two-Face, but a good Joker, if you know what I mean.

u/MrOnly8point1s 2d ago
True and that's probably why I like his riddler cause he's entertaining to me

I've always loved Spider-Man 3 and I was certainly puzzled when I got older and found out that it wasn't as beloved as I thought it was.

I like Spider-man 3. Its not terrible. Lots of good moments and Sandman is great. Just a regular Spider-man movie. It only get crapped on because it didnt fit expectations.

I feel like it gets shit when compared to what came after too. I remember seeing it at midnight in Imax and the crowd was big time excited.

having recently rewatched outside of tobey dancing and stuff it’s a solid movie. Outclasses 1 and 2 when it comes to web swinging and combat, and biggest complaint is all the menacing he does is as tobey not as black suit spiderman on screen

If you were a kid, it's ok to be nostalgic, but it's also important to view things critically through new eyes.
All of these movies are corny, but only X-Men Origins: Wolverine is truly garbage. The others are misguided but fun.

Batman Forever lives or dies on how much you can tolerate 90s Jim Carrey. Personally I'm with Tommy Lee Jones on that subject.

Batman Forever was sooooo bad. It was basically the 60's Batman with a really big budget.

There are so many comic book movies that I love, but most people hate. Then again, there are also comic book movies that everyone loves, that I don't. For instance:
The Incredible Hulk is still my favorite MCU movie.
Batman v Superman is incredible.

u/Independent_Form_500 2d ago
Superman Returns. It's still one of my favourites and I think Routh was a perfect casting

If you think they're good, don't let other people's negative opinions of them drag yours down. There are many films I saw as a kid or teenager, loved or at least quite liked, and then awkwardly forced myself to dislike when I found out the general consensus was against me.
Eventually I learned to trust what I liked , and the general consensus has since swung behind my opinion (those films were The Phantom Menace, Alien 3, and Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me).

I liked X-Men Origins: Wolverine but I also didn't know who Deadpool was until this movie. I think how they treated him is why a lot of people hated it.

Superman returns is not nearly as bad as people say, in fact it’s not a bad movie at all, just boring.

Spiderman 3 is the first and only superhero movie I ever walked out of the theatres on. If you grew up with Eddie Brock and Venom, it was a slap in the face

Not my whole life, only in my childhood but it was Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance for me

Kilmer is my second favorite Batman, after Bale. That's not something I get a lot of agreement on LOL.
And I also enjoyed X-Men Origins: Wolverine quite a bit. The dislike for that film is something that has always puzzled me.

Batman Forever would be remembered better if it weren’t followed up with Batman & Robin. As a one-off it could be considered a tonal experiment, infusing the Burton movies with the psychedelia of the original 1960’s series.

I'm not calling these movies perfect, but if you still think they're epic, then keeping thinking as much. I was watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 the other day and remembered how much I loved it as a kid. No, it's nowhere near as epic as the first movie, but it's still enjoyable to me. Maybe it's my old age talking but I'm just getting tired of hating things because the Internet told me to.

Batman Forever is my favourite Batman film. Just a perfect sit-back-and-get-drunk film. Pure entertainment.

I love the movie Congo. Almost everyone I speak with hates it. And I get their hate, but I still love it. Dude, love what you love. Your choices aren't for me, but as a man who's watched Congo over forty times, I totally get it. You do you.

I maintain that Origins isn't actually that bad, the cgi needed some work though.

With the exception of dudepeel (seriously they butchered the character with that one)

Am I the only one who even though Spider-Man 3 did flop with audiences still enjoys the movie just because it's pretty cool?

Blasphemy!! We will take Batman forever off that list immediately!! Especially without Batman and Robin making it there first!

I really liked Edward Nortons Hulk movie. I think they did a great job with the story. I think Blonsky / Abomination was a great villain and Liv Tyler is my favorite Bettie Ross. I was surprised when I heard that some people didn’t like the movie.
I also really liked Captain Marvel as a movie. She and Samuel L Jackson play great off of one another. It’s almost like a “buddy cop” movie. It is almost identical (in tone) to “The Long Kiss Good Night,” another movie that Sam Jackson played in opposite a strong female character.

Forever is far from a perfect movie, but it had a ton of potential. Under different leadership it could've been on of the greatest. Now Batman and Robin is a whole different story.
1
u/house_of_great 2d ago
I'm a Batman & Robin over Forever kinda guy. I prefer going full Camp than doing an odd mix, it feels more like a direct sequel to the 60's Batman film then it does being a shitty one to the Tim Burton ones.
2
u/Initial-Big-5524 2d ago
It's a fun movie. I've always loved it. Wouldn't admit it for 20 years, but it is hilarious. It was just hard for many people to stomach specifically because of what you said. They made a campy movie as a sequel to a gritty franchise.

u/Next-Accident-2970 2d ago
I'll take BAR over Forever because at least there was some compelling drama in Batman and Robin. And the villians at least toned it down. Mr Freeze at least had moments of sadness while Riddler and Two Face were on all the way through

u/A_crow_hen 2d ago
Forever, for me, is the most faithful adaptation of Batman.
1
u/house_of_great 2d ago
What?

u/A_crow_hen 2d ago
The details aren’t accurate necessarily, sure. Robin had a brother, for example. But the tone is good balance, the overall plot hangs together, Batman gets to do some critical thinking, etc.

It doesn't matter what people think of them, the criticisms for Spider man 3 and Origins aren't even valid
People only hate Origins because of 5 minutes of ruined Deadpool as if the rest of the movie wasn't fire
Spider man 3's entire theme is about forgiveness, it's not that hard to figure it out
Harry forgives Peter, Peter forgives Harry and the Sandman, Sandman forgives his wife, MJ forgives Peter and Harry
Did they ruin Venom? Sure but without him the third act wouldn't be what it is
Bully maguire scenes achieved exactly what they intended and the relationship drama as cringe as it is keeps the movie interesting

u/RadiantLindon 1d ago
Origins was bad overall. It had a fantastic opening but nothing else was particularly good, and a decent amount was outright bad.

u/Vak_001 2d ago
Spider-Man 3 is at least trying most of the time. It trips over its own feet, tries to jam in too much, and has some wonky writing in places, but you can see where it's trying, and the cast is doing what they can with what they have.
Batman Forever is actually kind of fun and digestible if you think of it as a continuation not of the Keaton/Burton films, but of the Adam West Batman '66. Kilmer plays a great Bruce Wayne, and deserved a better film in which to show it off; but he's the only one in the cast who did NOT get the memo that this thing had camp oozing out of its pores. So it's kind of a mixed bag, but watchable. Not frequently REwatchable, but, it's OK in its lane.
Anyone who wants to defend Origins: Wolverine is on their own, though. I got nuthin'.
