What do you all think of The Mask 1994?

In my opinion, it's one of the best love letters to musicals even though it's not traditional.

It respected the cartoon medium.

Originally it was going to be R first rated like the dark horse comics but they switched halfway through when they saw the potential for comedy. Jim Carrey brought.

And somehow kept many great references to the arcs of the first few issues and issue zero of the original dark horse comic run.

I do plan on ordering the comics after I saw a few videos talk about them.

One of the best/most creative romantic comedies and I would call it a must-see for Cameron Diaz and Jim Carrey’s break out roles. Put it on the same level as Risky Business.

Peak Jim Carrey. Better than the comics by a country mile.

Definitely, the comics have a cult following but they have never gotten that much attention without Jim.

Some people don’t like The Mask comics because it’s not Jim Carrey. He pretty much defined what The Mask is for the mainstream, and the comics are so radically different in tone, plot, humor, and characters. The comics were made for a very niche adult audience, while the movie was made for the mainstream audience of all ages.

The comics asked the question, “What if Tex Avery humor existed in real life and had real life consequences?” which is a horrific concept. The movie, on the other hand, asks, “What if Tex Avery humor existed in real life without consequences?” which is a very humorous concept.

It’s understandable why some people wouldn’t care for the comics version of this.

It was a really well-done movie that made Cameron Diaz a movie star as well as solidifying Jim Carrey’s status as an “A-Lister”.

Beyond just the schtick with the Mask, it had the brilliant plot twist where the classic femme fatale is good and the frumpy reporter is the villain

Stanley- "Gosh Peg, do you really mean that?"

Peggy- "Actually............no."

(Bad guys show up)

Peggy- "What took you guys so long??"

Like, goddamn. 🤣🤣🤣

She really sold Stanley out like that.

Fantastic soundtrack. A mix of swing, ska, and new jack swing; plus Jim Carrey's awesome version of Cuban Pete.

It introduced me to Royal Crown Revue, the "Hey Pachuco" swing band, who I've loved ever since.

One of the best comicbook adaptations, one of my favourite films from the 90s and one of Carey’s definitive performances. It’s edgy, gritty, zany, great soundtrack, great cast, sheer fabulousness from start to finish. The film has such high replay value. I’ve watched it so many times and I never even get bored.

Always loved this movie. It’s hilarious, creative, looks and sounds great (such a good soundtrack), and Cameron Diaz jumpstarted puberty for me.

I love the movie for Jim Carrey. But it also introduced me to the comic- which I personally enjoyed a lot more. Very different, amazing art.
