I like overdesign in superhero suits
I'm gonna clarify this is mostly about the MCU, but also not really because I mention the Amazing Spider-Man.
I don't get why people hate lines. I don't care if they're not comic accurate or if they have no reason to be there, I fucking love lines. I love them. They look great, I don't get everybody shitting on them.
Spider-Man Homecoming. That suit is amazing, I think it's one of the best Spider-Man suits ever, obviously the Brand New Day suit is better, I'm not dense. The Amazing Spider-Man suit? Chef's kiss, please could I have some more? Iron-Spider in the MCU? Way too shiny, but if it wasn't so disgustingly shiny I'd love it.
And this isn't just about Spider-Man, I like the Captain America suit from Age of Ultron, I dunno if that counts as overdesigned though I've heard mixed responses on that. I liked the Taskmaster design. I also liked the Fant4stic designs.
And yes, I'm a fucking larper, I've read one random Spider-Man comic I got from my uncle years ago, and yes, the comic designs are great, but sometimes they just wouldn't look good in live action. Maybe that's a bad take, and a take spewed everywhere, but I don't care I think it's valid and lines are cool.
I just think overall, the overdesigned costumes are still cool. I'll die on this hill.

Style is subjective so what looks awesome to you doesn’t to someone else. And more of those people are on your feed.

“They’re like all the clocks - I love them. I love seahorses. And I love lookin’ at ‘em
And I love SEA SHELLS. I love sea shell things. I love things with sea shells and seahorses on ‘em. Like blankets, and towels, and little bags. I love ‘em” - OP talking about lines lmao

Just to throw in my $.02 I thought the best MCU Spider-suit was No Way Home’s black-and-red-merged-with Iron-Spider suit.
Favorite Cap suit is the one from the beginning of Winter Soldier.
Favorite Iron Man suit is the mark 46 from Civil War.
Favorite Hulk look is Ed Norton Hulk.
Best Black Widow look is Winter Soldier.

My only complaint with that No Way Home suit is when it was used
I think it looks really odd seeing Toby and Andrew in the regular Spider-Man suit and then Tom's got the gold and shit, so it's not even a problem with the suit.

Suits are generally pretty good: the costume people are professionals, consider multiple options, and a lot of other people ok the final product. I mostly just watch movies and whatever the suit looks like, unless it’s really stupid (Batman tanking shotguns like Robocop, Green Lantern, TASM 2 Rhino) or really awesome (Pfeiffer Catwoman, Rorschach, Black Panther, Moon Knight, Hela) I don’t lose any sleep over it because it’s a tiny part of the film.

Not gonna lie, but I thought the GL suit was just about the only good thing about the movie.

People seem to ignore the fact that most classic superhero costumes were born out of limitations. Those first books were made on a dime, by a small team, who had to work fast and cheap. It was a fringe business at the beginning. Barebones. They had to be as slim as possible with their choices if they wanted to have a hope of profit.
That's why the classic superhero costumes are basically skintight with primary colours and a symbol. That's why panels were simpler. That's why the drawing quality was basic. It's not that the artists didn't want to design complicated suits, popping panels, and better drawings overall. It's that they couldn't. Go read about why colours repeat so much in villains’ costumes - TLDR: heroes got primary colours, villains got secondary to increase contrast. Translate that to everything else: those were all choices to reduce cost and improve speed.
People that defend the classic costumes because of "heritage" believe the artists had that vision. No, they had limitations to work around.
And, while I like the latest Superman costume, I recognize that the only reason for outside trunks is that the costume was based on circus strongmen and luchadores, which were the paradigm for masculinity back then.

I just don’t want everything to look like it was designed by the same company. Everyone in the MCU looks like they bought their suits from Nike.

People hate but they make them a certain way that looks good to a GA. Clearly their philosophy mostly works cause comic accuracy in superhero film suits is rare.

Ben Reilly's Spiderman suit is still the best version of the spidey costume.

I love the Amazing Spider-Man suit too. The only thing I don't like is the yellow lenses. I would prefer of they made them blue instead.

Overdesigned is one of those buzzwords i hate because there is no clear definition and it seems to simply mean "I dont like how it looks" in a way that adds weight by making it sound like deeper critique than it really is.
