Media consolidation and market monopolization is bad.

☝️this.. Many people cheered when Disney got Fox.. did it immediately work out? 🤣. Since that period to now, MCU has not been considered great as before the acquisition. It can make companies lazy.

The acquisition didn't do much on that front. They spread themselves too thin with too many projects and the quality went down in response.

I would say Marvel having all their properties is a good thing, but the merger shouldn't have been allowed.

That was Bob Chapeks doing. The Fox acquisition worked out well for content and getting all of the Marvel characters under one company.

Can you explain why?

Loaded question that one could take volumes of books to answer, but I'll simplify it by asking you a question:

Do you think that it's a good thing that CBS, CNN, and Batman are all going to be owned by Trump's friend/Jeffrey Epstein family associates?

ETA: ...did this guy pretend he had a gotcha and then block me? Lmfao I thought my question made it pretty clear that monopolization puts culturally important things into the hands of malicious actors who have every reason to pervert the core brand proposition, but i guess its hard for some people to read.

I don't. I would prefer they be their own independent companies.

Like Marvel was in the 1990s!

But then they went Bankrupt in 1998. That's why Spider-Man, Hulk, and X-Men went to so many different movie companies after that. Iron Man was one of the few characters Marvel didn't sell the rights to when they made his First Film in 2008.

Question is whether that's actually better for movies. We would never have gotten the MCU if Marvel retained Spidey and X-Men rights. Those would be the only movies ever made. Like Warners had the entire DC library at their disposal, but for thirty years only made Superman and Batman stuff.

They both started being independent, they both went bankrupt (or got close) and barely survived long enough to be bought out by a big company.

DC was bought by Warner Bros in 1969

Marvel remained independent till 2009 when Disney Bought them, Their Bankruptcy in the late 90s is the reason Sony still has the Movie Rights to Spider-Man to this day when they were selling character filming rights

They get more money this way. I wish they were profitable enough to be independent, but theyre not

I'll take both, but the funny thing about DC is that They've been owned by Warner Bros for 55+ years so I can't really picture them without the WB logo.

Marvel is really 50/50 for me because they have made Movies under Sony, Fox, Disney, Universal, and Paramount so they can really be a Jack of all trades

It’s good for longevity but worse for story quality. Big brands balk at creative risks

It’s not who owns them, it’s what they DO with them.
