Don't want this to happen too often but I'm the mod so I'm giving myself permission, bwah ha ha!

I've collected comics for over 40 years and am showing off my collection one box at a time on YouTube. Check it out if you're interested: Glenn Simpson's Comics - YouTube

A comic book dealer near me is selling me a Secret Wars #8 issue, however, not sure of the grade. What would you guys say is a rough estimate as to the grade. It's signed by Zeck and Shooter

Spare a grade ASM #48?

So I significantly overpaid for this. Whatnot, blind auction where the book was hidden and was bored and got carried away.

I'm planning on submitting to CGC after having it pressed, although there are obviously some issues with condition that a press won't sort out.

Interior is in really nice shape though.

What about replaced covers?

Hi there. I have a golden age otherwise quite valuable comic that had a very low grade cover. I saw the same issue with a great cover but some missing pages. I was thinking of buying that to replace the cover. I wondered what bearing replaced (but same time period) covers has on the value/collectibility of golden age books. Thanks

The notes are : 1/2" Spine split from top. Water damage. Tape on interior cover.

Pics (and the only pics I have) are provided. What would be the best case for this book being graded?

Can foils be pressed/is there anything that can be done to help this?

Hey everyone, new to the community and relatively new to comic collecting. I recently got this from a friend and unfortunately it got crunched at the top (fucking postal service). I don’t plan to get it graded or sell it, but I was curious if this could be pressed out at all? Idk if people do pressing with foil comics. I’ve had a couple comics graded and pressed 2 years ago, just not foils. Any help would be greatly appreciated or if anyone knows a credible business that they can suggest to get in touch with🙏🏻

Hey everyone-

I'm a collector that focusses on Sports and Non-Sport card collecting and selling. My knowledge of Comic Books and grading is zippy.

I'm trying to help a friend handle grading and selling this so he can maximize profit but also get this in the hands of a collector who will appreciate it.

If you guys could take a look and offer me your thoughts on how this would grade so I can give him some ideas on how to move forward. I really appreciate your time and thoughts!

Terry

Am I the A$$hole here???

When negotiating on price with the seller I said one of my issues was I’d have to have it pressed. Reply, “What are you talking about? It’s pristine”.

Crease/tick goes through to the interior as well. Are the playing dumb or am I just seeing things. I’m no expert by any stretch of the imagination but I think they are just a speculator who lucked into this book.

Jesus Christ. I just have to laugh at the mentality of the masses some times. I’m getting downvotes for saying the seller and I worked it out a fair deal and that’s a negative???

And then more downvotes for explaining the logic???
It’s just bizarre. But just for the sake of posterity on the eternal life of the digital age…here we go one last time.

The seller saw on eBay that I had looked at it and put it in my watchlist. It doesn’t matter if this is for investment or my personal collection, I would like it to have the POTENTIAL to be graded out as a 9.8. This has the potential to be a very valuable book and they were asking for that amount as if it were a “pristine” 9.8 already. I was asking for grading input on the damge and I made the mistake of trying to have some fun with you humorless sumnabitches.

I've been offered this what seems to be a lovely web of Spiderman

The only ding I can see is the bottom left corner (see pic 4)

What grading impact will this have, do we think? I would go ahead with a press and clean nonetheless

X-men 129 Printing defect

Hi all looking for some CGC grading insight. I have an X-men 129 that looks like a 9.8 candidate aside from what looks to be a printing defect on the top left corner as shown in the photo. Will this keep it from a 9.8 (will definitely keep it from 9.9 or 10).

Thanks!

How Do I Grade These?

Thumbnail

I don't know what these are called. They look like the colorist's production proofs of covers.

Does anyone know what these are called? How to determine if they have value? Either way they're neat to have.

History: I'm pretty sure these were purchased at Comic & Comix in Berkeley sometime in 1983.

Immediately put into a comic box with other comics where they Sat for 40+ years until I came up on them last weekend cataloging my collection.

Can Absolute Superman #1 (First Print) Still Get a CGC 9.8 With This Tiny Defect?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

I recently picked up a first printing of Absolute Superman #1, and after carefully looking over the entire book, I genuinely cannot find any flaws except for one tiny dot near the middle of the front cover.

The dot is extremely small, but it does have a slight texture to it. The best way I can describe it is as if someone took the tip of a colored pencil and lightly pressed it against the cover. It didn’t actually puncture or tear through the page, but it left a microscopic indentation that slightly affected the surface. When I shine a light on it at certain angles, I can see the tiny mark, and if I gently run my finger over it, I can barely feel the texture.

Other than this one tiny defect, the book looks practically perfect to me. I don’t see any spine ticks, corner damage, creases, or other noticeable issues.

My questions are:

Could this book still realistically receive a CGC 9.8, considering this is the only visible defect?

Since the mark slightly affects the surface of the cover without actually tearing through it, would that automatically prevent a 9.8?

I’m considering getting the book signed by an artist using a black marker directly over that spot to potentially cover up the defect. Would this be a good idea, or would CGC still notice and factor it into the grade?

Has anyone submitted a book with a similar microscopic indentation and still received a 9.8?

I’d really appreciate any opinions, especially from people who have experience submitting books to CGC. I’m hoping to get this book triple signed and graded, but I’m unsure whether this one tiny flaw could keep it from receiving a 9.8.

My newest PSA addition

I know that there was some controversy behind this comic and how there isn’t any other following issues. Is it worth just holding for years and years? I keep seeing this same comic graded by CGC. What are y’all thoughts on PSA?
