General Question Borderline intellectual functioning (IQ 70 - 84) is the worst IQ range to be in.

I personality have it, and basically I am acutely aware of my own limitations and problem, aware how much everyone around me is more smarter, very aware that my reasoning is not very reliable but at the same time not smart enough to fix it, I am pretty much stuck between 2 identity, disabled or too normal. Like too normal to be in specialized programs but not normal enough to be in normal programs. That is what it is in a nutshell.

Psychometric Question Can severe adhd affect iq scores?

I used to have extreme adhd when I was young (less so because I take meds now) so much so I had no idea why I was there and would vividly remember just getting up while the teacher wasn’t paying attention and just walk out of class (never caught me because I sneakily went back in) anyways when I looks at my past scores they were crazy low like I should’ve been in special classes lows (which I did up until middle school) these were the score
Iq :~56 (at 5 years old)
Iq: ~60 (at 6)
Iq:84 (at 9 which I remember vividly, it’s also full scale)
These were official tests that they give to you at school which I got from a paper, I believe they were the WAIS tests. I don’t know what my iq is currently (I don’t really need too I pretty much know my capabilities). My question is why would I my iq change so suddenly? It’s quite odd since I thought iq is in generally a fixed value. I did heard that before that iq may change as you age up to puberty due to various factors but I’m not sure. I do know that around 9-11 I was actually diagnosed and treated for my adhd. Anyways I also highly doubt my own iq as I have a deep fascination with the sciences and have A’s with little study and moderate difficulty. What are your thoughts, do you know anyone else who experienced this, please let me know!!

IQ Estimation 🥱 Is This a Normal Profile?

• Upvotes

(This KEEPS getting removed by Reddit filters and I don’t know why, so if you’ve seen this same post about 10 times then I apologise)

When I try to look into higher CPI than GAI, the vast majority of results are discussing higher
GAI than CPI.

Is this an unusually spiky profile?
Can someone with a deeper knowledge explain what someone with results like this would be like mentally/professionally/in school? Is my IQ actually that high or has it just been skewed by a memory test that I probably somehow unknowingly cheated at? And is this why I feel smart in my head but incapable of articulating my thoughts?

CORE
FSIQ: 134
VCI: 118 (dragged down by an abysmal 36th percentile in general knowledge)
FRI: 125
VSI: 128
QRI: 119
WMI: 143
PSI: 126
Perceptual Reasoning: 127
Culture Fair: 135
General Ability: 126
Cognitive Proficiency: 141

GRE

Verbal: 119

Analytical: 136

General Question Does iq change depending on someones situation?

• Upvotes

Let me explain. I saw a post on here saying thing’s like a lack of sleep, bad diet, stress and mental illness among other thing’s have shown to lessen someone’s iq. I just am wondering that if somebody is going through a rough patch and they take into consideration the things going on with them and around them, and notice half of these things are what the poster was talking about, is there a chance for them have a higher iq? If someone is getting more sleep, eating well and not doomscrolling, would that reset everything? Is iq something that fluctuates or stays stagnate? Like say they get better and study more, would that change it?

General Question Is iq correlated to math ability

Since your brain has dedicated centers for everything but math (that I’m aware of ) would the neural circuits ability to compensate for that be correlated to iq?

Controversial ⚠️ Raven's 2: IQ 130, 98th percentile, but rejected by Mensa Italy.

Hi everyone,

I'd like to ask for some clarification, preferably from people with a background in psychometrics or experience with Mensa's admission requirements.

I recently took the Raven's 2 - Clinical Edition and received the following results:

  • Raw score: 41/48
  • Ability score: 600
  • Standard score: 130
  • Percentile rank: 98th
  • Qualitative classification: Extremely High
  • 95% confidence interval: 123–137

I submitted my documentation to Mensa Italy, but my application was rejected because my standard score was 130 rather than the required 131.

What puzzled me is that Mensa Italy's official statutes specify admission at or above the 98th percentile, while their webpage concerning admission through external testing explicitly mentions an IQ threshold of 131 for the WAIS, without specifying an equivalent numerical cutoff for Raven's Progressive Matrices.

P.S. This post was rewritten with the help of AI because I'm not very proficient in English. I used an LLM to make sure my thoughts were expressed clearly and naturally for an English-speaking audience.

Psychometric Question Looking for an open-ended vocabulary test (where the testee provides the definitions) with scoring manual and norms

Looking for a vocab test where all items require the testee to provide the definition for a word — completely open-ended, with no multiple choice (e.g. the Mill Hill Vocabulary Scale Definitions form, WAIS-5 Vocabulary) — along with a scoring manual with credit criteria (full/partial/no credit) and norms.

Thanks in advance

Discussion Help me understand why my scores are all over the place?

Originally I just did the CORE because it was said to be the most reliable, but I wanted to see if my VCI was a fluke, so I did the CAT and it was now apparently my strongest capacity which I know is wrong because my mental rotation is bussing. However, fluid reasoning being dead average gave me an idea as to a very specific, possibly autistic incapacitation.

Whenever there is a double/triple negative, or negative-positive-negative series of information (or some other combo), like for example "I didn't go to the store not because I wanted to get green apples, but because I didn't want to see whether Patricia did or didn't want me at home," I get very confused. Now I knew the components to be coherent independently so I could write it and know it made sense, but to comprehend the meaning, I literally had to re-read it for 2 full minutes. (I timed myself.) Now when I re-read it, it makes perfect sense and I feel like an idiot for having to re-read it for so long to understand it in the first place. This explains my struggle with antonyms too!

This is why I also always take ALL the exam time at school: I end up re-reading questions and realizing I answered the *opposite question correctly*. What does this mean?? It bleeds over into quantitative reasoning too via confusing negatives and positives at some stage of the equation which is also fascinating! This means all forms of testing where answering requires continuous, "non-cancelling out" comprehension appears to be my strongest suit: VSI, PSI, matrix reasoning, graph mapping, etc) Nonetheless, idk why my GRE is outrageously low on all facets so maybe my theory is missing the big picture or it's just an unreliable test, idk.

Any other theories? Does my theory already have a name?

(Other attributes to inform any other theories: I've read 3 total books in my adult life (early 20s), my father and grandfather are both sculptors, my mom is undiagnosed autistic but I would bet my soul she could get diagnosed, and my sister is highly verbally intelligent. Also I didn't retake anything except Symbol Search because I scored a 91 IQ first/misread the instructions.)

General Question Help! How can I leverage my kid’s outlier scores with only a 134 GAI, to help him get into the best learning environment

Hello experts, my 5 year old just got his WPPSI-IV** results.** His GAI was “only” 134, but his VSI is 145, and his Math application on the academic part is 154.

There’s a regional program in our area that serves exceptionally gifted kiddos from all school districts, but the GAI cut off is 138.

Based on his other scores, what kind of shot do I have of getting him into this program?

He’s the highest performing student in his Montessori class, he teaches the other kids, he’s doing crazy awesome math, he’s highly inquisitive and philosophical, he has no behavior issues. He’s one of those kids where everyone in the school building talks about him.

So, if it matters, the gifted program in our district in simply just an accelerated program with no opportunity for bespoke pacing or really student-led project based learning.

Lawd. Help a mother out!!

Discussion Why can’t I use FRI as IQ?

I usually score very high on FRI related test usually 135-145+ but when I come to things like VCI I’m not familiar with the words. Regardless I still scored 135~ on core comprehension despite not knowing any information and vocab. I also lack CPI its average-above average the only other thing I have high is my QRI at 130+ and ok VSI at 120~. But having 140-145+ FRI with weak information and vocabulary brings my score down an inconvenient amount I don’t think it accurately represents my gifts when it comes to FSIQ

General Question Raven’s 2

I was wondering if someone could administer and set up the Raven's 2 intelligence test for me? I don't have a personal testing account or a credit card to purchase it myself, but I can easily reimburse you for the costs via PayPal.
I am looking to take the long version, and I really want to do it on a PC so I can get a much better overview of the visual details than on a smaller device. For the test setup, my details are: Male, born May 9, 2001.
Let me know if this works for you and feel free to send over a PayPal link or request for the payment. Thanks so much for your help!

IQ Estimation 🥱 Does this mentality hint at my IQ or hints at my applied laziness to find shortcuts?

While learning math, I have found myself reflecting on how I am learning. That has made me create a framework of adapting to the math problems that I’ve encountered. And if this framework holds true on the logic it is based on, I shouldn’t struggle with any future math endeavors. So it’s a framework of adapting to math problems or becoming proficient in patterns I have encountered and will encounter as an approach to learning math.

But I’ve learned 3 things with this framework:
One: it’s for becoming proficient in math patterns.
Two: it doesn’t guarantee you will become good with numbers. Being good with numbers is a natural gift.
Three: it doesn’t matter if you know the framework or are good with numbers if you’re not willing to become proficient in math patterns by using the framework.

So does this mentality hint at my natural IQ to have made this framework? Or is it in my case an applied laziness shortcut since I initially started the mentality with careful interest of math as a subject but ended with the sense of only planning to use it to learn math by becoming proficient in its patterns when I need to even when I don’t want to because my work rate doesn’t let me do more.

And in a person who is aiming to be a math Olympic gold medalist and puts in the work to become proficient in math patterns by using this framework, is it hard work or their work rate cloaked as “natural high IQ.” That means is their hard work or their work rate sugar coated as “natural high IQ.”

Furthermore, could our predecessors have won these math Olympiads with their “natural high IQ”? Because that is what I am inferring from this sense of belief in “natural high IQ”—it’s something that can skip the work rate process and can be considered a gift by allowing you to naturally know something that you would have initially needed to know through working to learn. So the ability to know depends on either your “natural IQ” or your work rate to learn.

My further question is how common was a high IQ in the past, and why didn’t these high IQ people do anything to naturally change history by changing their living conditions?

Did some of these people naturally know before someone said that Jesus could turn water into wine, that Moses split the sea with the blessing of God, and that the last supper occurred where Jesus blessed bread as his body and wine as his blood?

What else could they naturally know?

How come I don’t naturally know anything? Because I don’t naturally know anything, does that mean my “natural IQ” is 0?

Release Community Puzzle Project & AI Benchmarking

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to start a community-driven puzzle project focused on logical reasoning, creative problem-solving, and exploring different approaches to solving puzzles, including the capabilities and limitations of AI models.

The idea is to periodically publish collections of original puzzles that people can solve, discuss, and contribute to.

How Will It Work?

  • Puzzle sets: Depending on my available time and community interest, new sets may be published weekly, monthly, or once every few months. There won't be a strict schedule.
  • Solutions: Official solutions and explanations will be published approximately one month after each set is released.
  • Discussion: Everyone is encouraged to discuss their reasoning, alternative solutions, interesting observations, and approaches to individual problems.
  • No IQ testing: We won't collect IQ scores or other IQ-related personal data. This project is about exploring reasoning and enjoying puzzles, not measuring or ranking people's intelligence.

AI Participation and Benchmarking

AI-assisted solving is explicitly allowed and encouraged!

I'm also interested in using these puzzles to investigate how different AI models perform on novel reasoning problems.

We can compare:

  • Which problems different models can and cannot solve.
  • How long they take to arrive at correct solutions.
  • How performance changes with reasoning effort, thinking settings, and other configurations.
  • Whether different prompts, hints, or approaches improve their performance.
  • Common failure patterns and the types of reasoning that models struggle with.

For meaningful comparisons, it would be helpful if participants shared the model name and version, reasoning settings, prompts used, approximate solving time, and whether hints or multiple attempts were necessary.

Human and AI-assisted solutions are both welcome. The goal is to understand the reasoning process rather than simply collect correct answers.

Community Contributions

Any type of contribution is greatly appreciated!

You can help by solving puzzles, identifying ambiguities, suggesting improvements, or even creating original puzzles for future sets.

If you'd like to submit a puzzle, please email it to [lunarysumeei@gmail.com](mailto:lunarysumeei@gmail.com).

Please include the puzzle, its intended solution and explanation, any relevant diagrams, and your preferred name or username for attribution.

Puzzle submissions are welcome at any time! There are no submission deadlines. You can send your puzzles whenever they're ready, regardless of when the next set is scheduled. Accepted puzzles may be included in the next set or a later release, depending on the available material and publication schedule.

Contributors whose puzzles are accepted will receive proper credit in the published sets and solutions.

Requirements for Puzzle Submissions

If you would like to contribute an original puzzle, please follow these guidelines:

1. Strict logical solution

Every puzzle must have a logically defensible, well-defined solution. The intended answer should follow from the information provided, without relying on arbitrary assumptions or subjective interpretations. Avoid unintended alternative solutions.

2. Carefully planted hints

A good puzzle should contain thoughtfully placed clues that guide attentive solvers toward the intended logic. The goal is to reward observation and reasoning rather than force people to guess what the author had in mind.

3. Some degree of novelty

Try to introduce an original idea, a creative logical mechanism, or an interesting variation on an existing concept. Complete originality isn't necessary, but puzzles should offer something beyond a straightforward reproduction of familiar problems.

4. Clear and accessible explanations

Provide a solution that explains the underlying reasoning as simply and clearly as possible. Avoid unnecessary complexity.

For visual puzzles, include a diagram illustrating the relevant relationships or steps in the solution.

5. Vector graphics for visual puzzles

Visual puzzles must be submitted in an editable vector format, such as SVG, rather than raster-only PNG or JPG files.

You can use tools such as Inkscape or Affinity Designer to prepare your puzzles. This helps preserve image quality, consistency, and editability.

6. Attention to detail

Check your puzzles carefully before submitting them. Visual alignment, spacing, shape consistency, wording, and other seemingly minor details can affect how a puzzle is interpreted.

Make sure every intentional clue is represented accurately and that accidental details do not introduce ambiguity.

Submissions will be reviewed for logical consistency, originality, clarity, and presentation quality. Revisions may be suggested before acceptance.

What Is the Goal?

I'd like this to become a collaborative collection of well-designed reasoning puzzles, accompanied by rigorous but accessible solutions and interesting discussions.

I'm particularly interested in seeing how different people approach the same problem and comparing human reasoning strategies with those of modern AI systems.

The project is intended to be open, collaborative, and recreational, without the pressure of standardized testing or IQ comparisons.

You don't need to be an experienced puzzle designer or particularly skilled solver to participate. Curiosity and a willingness to think critically are enough.

Release ACE I and II Stats Update (Likely Final)

I’ve attached the updated ACE I and II stats and norms. The ACE II norms are rough estimates based on my judgment of item difficulty and the small number of reported scores, so please interpret them cautiously.

I’m tired of editing these reports and don’t expect to make further changes. If I do, I’ll update this post and share the revised files here.

Update: I realized I had uploaded the wrong ACE II file. I’ve now replaced it with the correct version.

ACE I Stats

ACE II Stats

Edit: I want to make it clear that my decision to exclude the score was not baseless or made lightly. I carefully considered the matter and conducted both direct and indirect research over time. I certainly did not rely solely on one person's claims.

Based on the information I gathered, I concluded that there were sufficient grounds to exclude the score. I made that decision without publicly accusing, attacking, or identifying the individual involved. My intention was to protect the integrity of the results, not to turn the matter into a personal dispute.

If that makes me the villain for trying to be fair, then so be it. You are free to believe either side, but I want to make one thing absolutely clear: my decision was informed, carefully considered, and based on more than one person's allegations.

IQ Estimation 🥱 Just Finished CORE

Thumbnail

I posted a while back about a 129 Slosson HIT score as a child and how that might relate to my current IQ.

I've seen the CORE recommended on this sub numerous times, so I finally found some time to take it, strictly out of curiosity.

I'd say this actually confirmed the childhood score as form what I understand Slosson HIT tests heavily on Verbal Reasoning, which is obviously my strongest skill. Oddly, while I did pretty well on the Mensa matrix reasoning test my result here was pretty pedestrian. It's certainly possible I happened onto a couple of lucky guesses.

Also, I realized that maybe I have a disability when it comes to mental arithmetic. Was it just me or was that section ridiculously hard? Multi-step mental math under a short time constraint was brutal. I knew how to solve the problems (if I had scratch paper and more time) but some of questions I just straight up timed out on. Others were just an educated guess or ballpark estimate based on how far I got in the mental math. How is it possible to have a score 2+sd outside my FSIQ without some contributing factor? Kudos to all of you who did well on that test!
