Advice What should I do to care for a kitten with possible CH?

Hello, I found a stray kitten around a few months old (less than 6m) and am not educated on how to cause the least issues for a cat with CH. I know what it is, how it works, and that it isn't painful (unless they were obviously injured) but I'm unsure how I can make the kitten comfortable while trying to learn how to be a cat and how to make my place more accessible for one that's just learning how to move around. Should I keep my place traditionally catproofed or should I also look into padding the walls? My floor is padded already for my own issues. I'm unsure if I should be using alternative furniture for her (such as supports to keep her as stable as possible while passing a bowel movement or eating) as we are still unsure how severe it is. I have kept cats before but all were able bodied so it is new for me to have a CH cat. Please be nice to me as I really just want to learn.

Advice Dry food and choking risk

Post image
27 Upvotes

My kitty with CH isnt severely wobbly but is most noticeable when he eats as he jerks his head up. He is typing eating wet food but i give him some dry food im between meals sometimes. I was watching him eat some dry food today and noticed he actually choked a couple times. The dry food is very small so luckily he was able to spit it back up but i would feel horrible is i wasnt there and he wasnt able to spit it back up again. Im thinking of getting rid of dry food altogether. Has anyone else had this problem? Or potential will mixing it with water help?

He’s only goes on the carpet, pls help!

This is my ch baby Huey. He’s 5 months old and my pride and joy. He’s on the severe end so he mostly eats and “goes” on his side. He can only walk a step or two without falling over. He’s such a sweet boy that melts my heart and loves love. Only thing is he refuses to use his box.

I’m on prototype 4 at this point (low rise box, puppy pad station with grippy mat underneath, car wash 1.0, now car wash 2.0). I clean it every day, but I leave one small clump of his pee on the side so he can’t be familiar with his scent. I’ve tried multiple types of littler, cat nip, treats, putting him in the box when he usually goes, he just refuses.

He used his first box fine but he always fell into his waste and we had to bathe him every day (which he hated poor guy). So I made a puppy pad station which he used sometimes but would frequently miss or roll around in his pee afterwards. He mostly tried to play with it and rip it from the grippy mat to play. Mostly he would just go on the floor. So I made a car wash style one with side rails. I made the entrance too low so it was a mess so I finally arrived at this one.

At first I put him into the box and he used it fine with no mess (yay!) so I thought it was a win. I kept doing it when he was about to pee on the carpet and I thought he would eventually associate this as the potty station but he now refuses altogether. I have the puppy pad station right next to it in case he would prefer that but now he won’t even use that. If I try to put him in the box he refuses and now that he’s trying to push himself out of the box when I put him in he topples over which I fear makes him associate it with falling and getting sand in his mouth 😢 last night was my breaking point. I put him inside the box, he walked right out and peed right next to it immediately. I think he prefers the traction the carpet gives him. I don’t know what to do. I’ve been at this for two months.

I’m a renter, my house smells, and I’m cleaning piles of waste every single day. I’m so desperate. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

He was waiting for an entire month at pet smart. I have always thought that his CH label freaked people out, but lucky me! December will be 10 years with my beloved orange. His CH is actually fairly mild, but he definitely does the circles!

advice for a small kitten?

Post image
47 Upvotes

hello everyone!

i found a kitten that i believe has CH outside my job last night. we have a vet appointment in 2 days to get him checked out.

in the meantime, i want him to be as comfortable as possible. he seems to be struggling really bad to stand/walk, but besides that he is a typical kitten. curious, playful, and bright. i already got a low entry litter box, and low bowls for him to eat out of. i’m keeping him in a playpen, which i also ordered a nonslip dog crate mat for, and a low bed he can get on.

i’m thinking towards the future, are there any modifications i’d need to do in my home to accommodate him? will his walking improve as he ages?

ive been calling him Butters :)

I have never had such a vocal, cuddly, or demanding cat.

Currently working on helping the boy lose some weight, as he was quite chunky when we began fostering him.

Volume up!

This is Gatsby's "I've been polite long enough, get your butt in here NOW" cry (even though we just played with new toys for an hour).

Since impaired proprioception affects vocalization, do your wobbly kitties have strange meows, too?

Medical bill help

Does anyone know any charities or organizations that help with medical bills for ch cats or cats in general? I had $1000 vet bill on Thursday and and looking down the barrel of another $1000 or more due to a bowel obstruction. I’m a teacher and I wish I had the money to afford this but I’m barely making ends meet as it is. :(

Litter robot best for CH cat?

I’m moving soon and looking to upgrade the litter box with the move. However, my little guy with CH lays on his side to go to the bathroom, so we’ve always used a deep high wall litter box that he climbs into and up and out of (with no issues. His CH is fairly mild). Has anyone had success with a specific type of litter robot/genie for a similar scenario? There’s a ton on the market and I’m a little overwhelmed, and really don’t want a ton of trial and error, especially with the price of these things. TYIA :)

TLDR: looking for litter robot/genie recommendations for CH cat who lays on his side to do his business.

Litter box advice.

Meet Fish, my stinky son.

I recently adopted a kitten (he's about 6 months old now) who has CH. I've had him for about 3 months and I have definitely learned a lot about his care but theres one place we're still really struggling... the litter box.

I've tried a few different styles and had some issues with each but finally landed on one that he is consistently using without much trouble, but he is constantly falling over into his own feces. He is getting covered in poo almost daily and we are doing at least 1 bath per day to keep him clean. This has been an issue with every box we've tried. I understand that to a certain extent it is just part of the reality of CH but is there anything I can do to reduce frequency of him falling in his own dookie?

Currently he has a high wall, low entrance box that he can easily get in and out of. I'm just curious about what might help prevent him from falling over in it as much.

TLDR: My cat falls in his poo everyday and I'm curious if there is any way I can reduce or prevent it.
