Here's my pet centipede, it's been 3 weeks and it's still healthy and eating well. This one entered our house in the village and I caught it, I wanted to look after it so I said why not, I know wild centipedes are not that optimal to care for but it's doing good. And this enclosure is temporary I'm going to make a bigger enclosure with actual coir and actual hiding spots for the centipede. By the way it's name is Mantu.

question Beginner Centipede Recs?

Hi yall. I’m not so new to owning insects, however I am very new to centipedes and have been interested in getting one. I have a brand new spare 12”(L) x 8”(W) x 6”(H) acrylic enclosure by HerpCult with magnetic sliding close top and was wondering what could be housed in that? I know that centipedes are escape artists so I’m hoping that might be okay for one, especially since the magnets are pretty strong. As much as I would love to have a giant centipede, I’ve read they aren’t so beginner friendly especially if you’re starting off with owning them. Do any of yall have any advice or recommendations for a first time centipede owner? Again, I’ve owned insects before such as some widows, jumpers, tarantulas, beetles, roaches, and a millipede so I’m not stranger to the variety of care and requirements they need.

Meet Gerbert, named after an unimportant character in a YouTube DND campaign(legends of avantris) and Gerbert is a growing scolopendra cingulata. Today Gerbert moved to his permanent home. Today Gerbert held onto my tongs. Today I lost my cool for a sec...

I’ve been seeing these types of centipedes more often this week than usual, and I was wondering what species they could be? I was able to move the first one I found (a bit bigger than this little guy, maybe about half an inch-to an inch?), but this one ran off before I could move him unfortunately. Apologies if the photos are a bit blurred, they were scurrying off pretty fast.

question Tips on beginner centipedes.

Hello! As the title states I’m wanting to get into centipedes, and I was wondering what species yall would recommend for someone who wants to start caring for one? I don’t really mind size (aside from something that would get has big as S. Gigantea, but I figured it’s not a starter species) I’ve always loved the colors and pattern of almost any Scolopendra Polymorpha, although I’d like one that’s a bit less brown/muddy color (if possible) so I’m open to any suggested species!

question Why do you keep centipedes?

So to get straight to the point, I'm pretty scared of centipedes but this is a genuine question purely out of interest.

I joined this sub a few months back to try and get over my fear/dislike of them and I think I've made some progress!

Also I have a tarantula and a scorpion which are both not dangerous to humans and I'm not scared of either of them, but a bite/sting would certainly still hurt a lot xD

I can't exactly explain where my fear comes from, it's not the legs (I have two Cameroon red leg millipedes) and it's not the venom either as I know there's different severities.. so I'm thinking maybe it's the speed and how unpredictable they seem in videos I've seen so far?

Also the main reason why I'd like to get over my fear is because my partner is pretty obsessed with them and would really like to have one as a pet. I would certainly be open for that idea but Idk- their amazing escaping skills certainly don't make me feel less weary of them/getting one as a pet.

So if you have a good beginner species that I could look into or just general informational content you can recommend to maybe help me get over my fear that would be great!

informative Where to buy centipedes in Europe? Breeders and online shops recommendations

Hi everyone!

I recently got a few centipedes and I’m quickly becoming really interested in keeping them. I’ve been keeping and breeding tarantulas for quite a while, but I’m still pretty new to the centipede side of the hobby.

I’m based in Italy and I was wondering if anyone could recommend some reliable centipede breeders or online shops located in Europe that ship within the EU.

I’m especially interested in finding breeders with a good variety of Scolopendra species, as it seems a bit harder to find them compared to tarantulas. I’d also be interested in smaller/private breeders, not just the bigger online shops.

Where do you guys usually buy your centipedes in Europe? Any breeders, websites, expos or communities you would recommend?

Thanks! :)
