Cannot believe there was rainbow trout above fawns leap. I’ve never caught rainbows around here ever. Kept all fish pictured, lost a couple even bigger rainbows when they jumped out of the water after getting hooked. They fight so much harder than brooks and browns. Last day of trout season (keeping them anyways)

I’m looking for any info anyone has on this plane wreck. I attempted exploring some herd paths along the ridge walk between the ruins and the fire tower. I didn’t see anything of note but came across a couple cool viewpoints I hadn’t ever seen. However, I had my 8 month old son with me today, so I didn’t have the means of exploring too far off the main path. I definitely want to come back once all the leaves are down and temps drop below rattler territory and try to find this thing. The only tidbits of info I have is that I’m looking for a herd path “near” the summit, that goes along a cliff I guess, and than you reach some ledge and the wreckage is said to be about 200 feet below. If anyone has any info on how I can access or locate this plane wreck it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all. We are selling our Long Island rental and would like to take the profits(about $350k) and buy a 3br home up in/near Catskills. Really no more than 2-1/2 hrs from Nassau/Suffolk border . Would ideally like to buy home in that price range and not have mortgage. Even if it needs work as I’m in construction.

Any recommendations of an area that has following. Sure wish list puts me out of our budget .

1. Scenic Mountain View’s
   
2. Trails/hiking
   
3. Town with shops/restaurants not more than 10-15 min drive

I’ll be stopping in Hunter, NY later this month for the day however, I’m planning on going on a Wednesday and can’t seem to find many places that are open on Wednesdays. Anyone know of/recommend places in the area that are generally open on Wednesdays?

hi everyone,

writing here because i’m pretty bummed our trip to the western catskills today through tuesday is going to be filled with rain. our highlight was the giant ledge to see the panoramic view of the fall foliage. we also had an outdoor fire pit and had plans to go to an orchard, stargaze, and other outdoor activities.

i’m trying to stay positive and not have this ruin our trip, so i’m wondering if there’s any hikes that offer similar views that are not so high up? or hikes that wouldn’t be too foggy? we are okay with hiking in the rain and don’t mind the mud. I just don’t want to waste time hiking if the viewpoint is going to be just a white sheet of fog.

we are staying in roscoe, pretty far from catskill and hudson so I know there’s not as many things to do out in the western catskills. we don’t mind driving up to an hour for any hikes or viewpoints, honestly anything to make this trip seem worth it 😅

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance

Yesterday the group I was with decided to check out an unmarked viewpoint on KHP. Very much worth it! You can see both Kaaterskill Clove and Platte Clove with the Hudson River in the back.

We met at a trailhead parking nightmare.

The scene: Huckleberry point. Oct 10th. The parking lot was nuts. You two were near your yellow car, ready to leave. Completely blocked in by truly inconsiderate parkers. Peak season creates overflowing trailhead traffic, but this was lunatic level gridlock. A toppled jenga tower of out-of-state plates.

Me and my crew were just finishing our hike, we locked eyes as I approached the vicinity. I couldn't tell if I was the guilty car, but y'all stepped up quick to give me a talking to...

You had high hopes I was one of the trailhead parking villains. Finally, you could get your car out AND intimidate an idiot.

In a heated 20 second exchange, we determined: 1) I wasn't one of the offenders 2) you guys immediately apologized and made light of your misdirected anger 3) you gracefully bounced between fist-shaking frustration and face-palm laughter that you had the wrong guy. We commiserated. I wished I could help. I left.

How long were you stuck? Was there a confrontation? Gimme the deets.

Y'all were neat. Good dudes in a ridiculous situation.

Hi, I was going to hike Indian Head in the ADK on Tuesday but it’s raining all day - luckily farther south the rain is holding off. Going to go to the Catskills instead. Are there any hikes with really scenic wide vistas like Indian head around?
I just did giant ledge/panther mountain yesterday and I liked it, although was slightly irked that the best view was 2 miles in and not at the summit. Not sure if the Catskills are as dramatic as the ADK but perhaps I’m uneducated !;)

I'll be going bear and deer hunting next month in Greene/Ulster Counties. Can anyone recommend any local taxidermists and butchers?

Hi all. Bringing my niece to the area for her first time and she wants to take a hike. And I'd love to show her the area around Platt Cove or Palenville or the falls. Any interesting lesser known hikes? Isn't there one to an abandoned old hotel?

A moderate hike, 1-2 hours long would be ideal. Thanks for any tips!
