I love catching catfish and eating them but I hate seeing them suffer.

I live in MD and love fishing the Potomac. In the late summer and early fall, I would fish from 7 pm to midnight. I usually throw chicken liver and shrimp out and get a catch in the first 30 minutes to an hour. Now that its getting colder, my bites seem to slowing, any advice on getting a catch?

If you were out bank fishing, (catch and release) and a fellow angler on the bank asked you for your catch, would you give it to them? Thoughts?

First off, a big thank you to our guests, Eric and Garris, for choosing Goober Time Guide Service! The goal for the day was targeting eater-sized blue catfish, and despite a finicky early bite, executing a mid-morning drift strategy paid off big time.
Trip Highlights:
• Milestone Moment: Garris landed his very first catfish—a 2 lb blue cat on a light tackle setup!
• Strategy Shift: After testing channel ledges, we transitioned upriver to a main channel suspended drift right as the tidal current slowed.
• The Action: The bite exploded on our main channel passes, landing 15 blue catfish on just two drifts!
• Catch Summary: 18 Blue Catfish total (~65 lbs total weight), with the top fish weighing in at 6 lbs and 7 lbs.
If you want to read the full breakdown—including water temps, rod/rig setups, and detailed drift patterns—check out the full report on our website:

Had a nice trip to Lake Norman last Sunday. I caught and released 12 catfish including a nice 55 and 28lb blue catfish. Bait was cut white perch and cut gizzard shad. Just got whole trip on video here:

Was out fishing for a few decent size (3-8lb) blues, and for the life of me couldnt land anything less than 10lbs damn near all night. Largest catch of the night was shy of 15lbs using the grip scale. Still walked away with a decent harvest and all cats exceeding 8lbs were just C&R

Last weekend I had a chonky boi break off my last Whisker Seeker float and I'd been pretty bummed because it absolutely would've been my biggest freshwater catch. I spent the entire work week thinking about how hard my rod doubled over and how I'd gotten too excited and clubfingered my drag, pert near berating my self over such a stupid mistake. Luck seemed to be in my favor this weekend, though, as I returned to my lucky grass flat. The second time I put my baitcaster back out this fucker slams the bait so hard I'm tilting like a drunk and I had to fight just to get my rod out of the holder. Would've been a much sweeter deal if my float had been hanging from his lips like Ron Swanson with a cigar but its whatever, still drastically crushed my PB

These are the biggest fish I caught this year so far. 47, 46 & 40lbs. It was a good year. I got out as much as possible.

My son caught this. Is it a Channel or a Blue cat? Thanks!

Fall bite is here. This is all I take on my local river besides rods and good bait. Looking forward to some flatties this weekend.

Do you guys have any ideas on how to get springs to stay on circle hooks for dough bait without choking the u bend or ruining the action of the circle hook? I got one to work by crimping the bottom of the spring, but the next one completely ruined the spring and couldn't be removed.
I was looking to add a spring since I haven't seen or had any success myself at my local park lake with anything other than dough bait. Absolutely no bites for myself or anybody else on cut bait only on the crawfish and chicken blood nuggets.
I know of the panty hose method, but it adds too much bulk to my setup. I'm running a santee rig since there's so much mud and vegetation along the bottom of my local lake and pond. I can cast the bait, but it seems hit or miss with it staying intact when it hits the water even on softer lobs. Unfortunately, in a smallish town, there's only the local walmart for fishing gear or buying online so not much to experiment with.
