Forgot to post this sooner, but a HUGEEEE COCKROACH was found on the first floor water fountain in the LOEB building. Absolutely shocked by the sheer size of this unit of a bug 😱

I’ve seen cockroaches before, but never this big!! It must be a different species from the common cockroach that’s usually found around here. Is there a bug lab I’m not aware of? Is this someone’s pet?? How tf did this thing get here?!?!

Hello! I’m looking for advice about transferring from Queens to Carleton University

I’m a first year at Queens University in general engineering program and I recently took a trip down to Ottawa to explore Carleton University and I think I might like it more than Queens.

My experience at Queens has had a few ups and downs, it’s hard to talk to new people and I’ve noticed most of the students are more focused on drinking rather than doing any of the work.

During my visit to Carleton I noticed that the environment was brighter and more pleasant to be in. I personally felt happier during my short time there.

My only problem is I’m not sure if I should transfer because I was lucky enough to get into queens, but I feel happy at Carleton and it gives me my own space to me independent without family.

If anyone has any advice on this please let me know what I should do!

I personally have negative experiences in my major (social work/1st year), and feel unsupportive in different ways. I’m thinking if I should switch out of social work to another program. Not sure if it’s just me or anyone else going through similar experience, or any suggestion of other programs that I can switch to would be appreciated.

Does Anyone know if the MSW/Political Management Stream is Worth it at Carleton?

I was wondering what Rebbeca Sullivan online class was structured like. Should I drop this class or is this an easy to keep up with course online.

Thanks

Francesca

mr morin... honestly when u first wrote the grade breakdown on the board and assignments were worth zero i was cheesed... But i understand why and highkey i cant be too mad. But after this quiz, I just want to say that I love you pat morin. Everything you teach is material that matters and that I can see purpose in and use effectively in the quiz once learned. I appreciate your assignment/95 question format. The assignments make me understand concepts and the questions drill it into my brain. This quiz was delightful to write as i felt all my studying unravel onto the paper. Patrick Morin please dont let anyone change you.. we love you here in comp 2804

The election day falls during reading week, so if you intend to vote in the Ottawa municipal election, vote in the advance poll this Friday Oct 16 from 10-8. You can also vote by proxy if you have a friend you trust to vote as you wish on your behalf and the patience to go through the forms to register themself as such. Beware the friend can only cast one proxy vote.

Obviously this doesn't apply if you've already voted by other means.

I’m filling out the usual pre-screen thing and I haven’t seen this option before to consent to AI Scribe. Can anyone tell me what they use it for?

Has anyone taken this course with Donald(Don) Leffers before? There’s a previous post about ENST but it’s from 7 years ago and it’s about a different prof. What does the midterm look like, anywhere in particular we should focus on? Any and all help would be appreciated!

Haven't been able to log-in into my email for the last few days because the Microsoft Authenticator app cannot verify or sign into anything? It also seems to think it needs to authenticate for itself (I.e. it is giving/asking for a code it does not have, as if it were not the authenticator app itself).

Wondering who I could turn to or if there is a generally quick at-home fix for this.

hey! does anyone have notes from friday’s class (10/09) on sensation & perception with matthew sorley? i had a dr’s appointment so i couldn’t make it. if anyone could send me theirs i’d really appreciate it :)

To put it shortly, I didn't buy the myLab bundle and was just wondering if anyone could provide me the assignment questions. I need them to study for the midterm this Friday.

Thank you.

hey guys im sort of freaking out. i have a midterm on friday, but when i checked my ventus portal, i realized the exam isnt in the system. my accommodations are all approved and ive had no issues in the past with other courses.

i emailed my disability coordinator, but since the exam is so soon, i'm worried that it might not be enough notice for the exam centre to schedule me in.

has anyone else had a similar experience? how did it turn out? im feeling really worried that my accommodations wont be followed

EDIT: forgot to mention, prof has "no make up, early, or delayed tests will be given. medical excuses, other than hospitalization, will not be considered" written on the syllabus

If anyone saw a card holder that looks like this on the train, please let me know!!! I keep losing it💔

Hello everyone,

I am posting on behalf of my wife, who is applying to the Master of Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) program at Carleton for Fall 2027. We would love to hear from current students or alumni.

Her background is in finance, but she is no longer interested in finance roles and wants to rebuild her career in government. Carleton’s location in Ottawa and the paid co-op option are what stand out to us. She is also applying to Waterloo and TMU.

Some things we are curious about:

• How competitive is admission, and what kind of profiles get in?
• How easy is it to land a co-op with the federal or provincial government, and do those placements lead to full-time jobs?
• Has anyone made a similar switch from finance or another non-policy background?

Thank you for any advice!

We are the Carleton University Firearms Association (CFA) and we just held our first student range day of the semester this weekend! Despite the event coinciding with Thanksgiving, all 40 spots were still booked up within an hour of event announcement.

The 40 participants were collectively served by 20 volunteers consisting of Carleton student and alumni, and were able to freely try out 30+ various firearms over 3.5 hours.

Student range days are catered to members of the post-secondary community who are interested in sport shooting and firearms. Under direct supervision of our volunteer range officers, participants get a chance to learn the fundamentals of firearms handling and marksmanship in a safe, educational, and fun environment. The CFA provides all supervision, safety equipment, firearms, ammunition, and transport to the event. Participants just need to pay an event fee and for the ammunition they use.

Special thanks to EOSC for allowing us to host this student event, and to all volunteers who donated their spare time and firearms. We couldn't have done it without your support.

i went to umami (the ramen spot in the dining hall) and the chicken was very pink, but not usual chicken pink, it was light pink

has anyone else had this problem? i’m kinda freaking out since i don’t want food poisoning 😭🫩

Out of curiosity, has the prof ever mentioned what's gonna be on the exam or the format? Because I heard from previous students that his exams were pretty hard.

Pickup hockey players and goalies wanted. Adult league. 18+. Co-Ed. Friendly non contact fun. Zero tolerance for rough play.

Intermediate to advanced players welcome. This league would be too fast for true beginner players.

Goalies play for free. No commitment. Play as many or as little as you want. Different rinks and times depending on where I can book ice. 3-4 games per week.

I'm seeing that for the 2027-2028 entrance scholarships the highest amount is 12k, 3k per year for 4 years. I feel like I remember last year's scholarship being 16k so did they decrease it? On their website I can't find any record of it and I feel like it's kinda crazy that a scholarship would be decreased over time when there's inflation making it worth less.

Okay, so it’s currently Monday night, and I have a psychology midterm bright and early Wednesday morning at 8 AM covering 3 chapters. I’m planning to spend all day tomorrow doing nothing but studying, but I genuinely need advice on how to use my time effectively so that I can get the best grade possible on my exam.

I have all my notes written out, but the problem is that I haven’t actually learned or retained much of the content over the past month. I have everything in front of me, but very little of it has actually sunk in, so I basically have one day to learn and memorize everything.

I also have unmedicated ADHD, which makes focusing and retaining information even harder.

What would you recommend I do to study as effectively as possible in one day? What methods should I use, and how should I structure my day if my goal is to get the highest grade I can?

Also, it's a multiple choice exam!

Any advice would be really appreciated! Thanks!

I’m looking for a fun pumpkin patch to take my boyfriend to! He has never been to a pumpkin patch and has never done any fall themed fun activities so I’m looking for a good pumpkin patch for maybe some older kids activities but honestly, I’m just going for any fun pumpkin patch in the city or nearby!! Things like apple bobbing caramel apples and stuff like that!! and of course the maze and whatever else there is!!

Anyone else just fed up and tired with the course and how garbage it is? Test 2 was just straight torture. Although test 1 was easy I just dont see how I am supposed to learn when the course is just this difficult. Tutorials takes me hours to complete, assignments are just overload on top of that, lectures are just useless I doubt anyone even looks at them. Im finding an easier time in COMP2804 than I am in 2406 is this not enough evidence LMFAO. Its just cooked nothing we can do tuition just down the drain like that no one to help us just literally nothing we can do... Keep in mind we are paying to be taught about web development but its just straight torture... Anyone got anything to add on to this? Anyone taking comp2406 or already took it? any opinions?

Hello!

I am currently a fourth year student in BA Criminology honours and I’m seriously thinking of dropping into the non honours and graduating now.

I have an opportunity to start working as an HVAC tech and getting my licenses in order to move up in that hierarchy.

If I were to switch out of 4 year program into the 3 year, would I drop out of my current classes? This is preferable because it means I can start working now, rather than later. I already sent an email to academic advising asking for assistance too.

Thank you!
