Data Scientist vs Data Engineering: which is worth it today?
I have just completed my bachelors in computing and i am choosing my Masters in data science or Data engineering with cloud course. Honest opinions please:
- Which is worth it in today’s market?
- Which has the higher AI automation risk?
- Which do you think will have more demand in coming years?
I am seeing that the data people is divided into two groups :
Group 1 : Who says Data science will grow in future and it has less ai impact then other data jobs.
Group 2 : Who says Data is fuel so data engineer will be in demand for future
If you work in either field, I would love to hear what the job is like day to day. Thanks!

does either course include an industry placement, and would you have to find it yourself? getting relevant experience during the master's would weigh heavily in my choice, given that you're looking for your first role.

Ai has taken over 90% of data pipeline work. Most data engineers are now only surviving with SQL data cleaning and modeling. So if you like majority of your work is doing SQL go to data engineering. Else stay away from the tech industry

I’d lean data engineering if you enjoy coding, databases, and cloud infrastructure. Data science is a better fit if you like statistics, experiments, and modeling. If you’re still torn, a career assessment like the caoched test could give you another angle on which work suits you, but I’d also check job postings in your target market before picking a master’s.
