I literally didnt even have to guess that this was San Antonio. San Antonio has the shittiest drivers in all the country.

And one out of seven drivers in Texas have no car liability insurance or attachable assets.

And why is that

Lax enforcement and extremely high insurance costs. Hell, I've got an 800+ credit rating and perfect driving record with no claims filed since the 1990s and just my liability is over $500/year. Full coverage for my $1,500 beater would cost me over 1,300/year now, and with a $500 deductible I'd only get a check for $1,000 if my car was totaled. Texas car insurance rates are near the top of the list of most expensive in the nation.

I came moved out of Austin not long ago and my monthly insurance was over 200, and that isn't even with all the bells and whistles. Where I moved to, it would have been about 70/ month. I still can't go into details but I had gotten into a wreck before I moved and I'm getting screwed over due to the stats your comment before brought up.

$1,300 a year is not expensive. I pay around $2700 in PA.

It is for a $1,500 beater. I mean, the most they'd pay out in any given year is $1,000 after deductible, and I'd be paying $1,300 for that $1,000 payout. The math just doesn't math. I can just walk away from the steaming wreckage and be ahead of the game by $300, and in fact have done just that.

I wouldn’t get full coverage on my beater either. I totally agree with that. I would love to have coverage for $1,300, let alone $500 a year though.

That's comprehensive, not liability. You don't need to insure your shitbox, but you should carry $2-5m liability for the sake of the people around you.

That much liability insurance on a car here in Texas would be over $1,000/month, lol.

dont forget two of our city council members are advocates for unsafe driving.

No, its pretty average (terrible lol). Houston is worse IMO... NJ also had a lot of asshole drivers...

The safest way to drive in NJ, is to become an asshole like them.
When in Rome or do as the romans do in Rome.

Im from San Antonio, used to live in Houston, and frequent Houston, used to frequent Dallas, used to live in NYC. I just got back from a cross country road trip, from SA to NYC to LA, traveling from the NE, Midwest, to SoCal. SA still has the worst drivers.

Sorry you got into an accident. This was 100% preventable though. You gotta drive defensively and pay attention to the cars around you. Your own dash cam shows you're not paying attention to red/orange car forcing their way into your lane.

Ya should’ve assumed they weren’t looking and slowed down quicker 🫩

Hit the brakes. This was preventable with an ounce of defensive driving.

Ya ik I forget to assume the person changing lanes isn’t gonna look

You had less than a second to clock that this guy was about to hit you and avoid him.
He was already braking for the car in front of him, so you’d have had to hit the brakes pretty hard to get him around in front of you, and clearly you didn’t have room on the left to get over so that was your only option.
These people are being armchair experts after the fact, it was theoretically possible to avoid it if you’d reacted real quick but acting like you were somehow negligent here is ridiculous
