Culture I toured all over Cambodia and Koh Rongs and Svay Rieng were the very best places for me. Had absolute blasts. Nature, laid back atmosphere and no stress. Any places comparable to these two?

A long Veng, Sai Takku, Osmach, Poi Pet, Phnom Penh, Pailin Snooky, Than Sur Bokor, and Angkor Wat were average compared to the above.

Too developed and many creepy people with ulterior motives around.

Phnom Penh Where to get noise canceling headphones/earbuds/earphones ? And how much are they usually?

• Upvotes

I've got really loud and obnoxious neighbors and I'm not the confrontation type, plus it's not smart to confront them when I'm a girl who lives alone. But every 30 seconds there's a loud scratching noise, sort of like fork scraping against a plate but 5 times louder. It's annoying. Anyways! Thanks in advance reddit peeps !

Siem Reap Tickets for Angkor Wat - Can't upload a photo?

Hello,

I have a weird issue: I try to purchase a ticket online for Angkor Wat. I registered at what I think is the official website (https://www.angkorenterprise.gov.kh) and selected a date.

Now it wants me to upload a photo that meets certain criteria and shows your whole face. My problem is: no matter which photo I try to select, it always says "no face detected in this photo". Even if it clearly shows my whole face.

Has anyone else had the same issue and can give me a hint how to make this happen?

Thank you so much!

Food Going to Siem Reap and PP in early Jan - are restaurant bookings required for nice places these days?

I have got my eye on a couple restaurants in both places, such as:

Siem Reap

-Cuisine Wat Damnak

-Embassy

-Chanrey Tree

-Malis

-Pou Restaurant

-Jomno Street Food

-Tavern Restaurant

-Mahob

-Romiet

-Kroya

-Amok Khmer

-Le Petit Chef

Phnom Penh

-Cuisine Wat Damnak

-Sombok

-Kravanh

-Malis

-Armand’s

-Palais De La Poste

-Khema La Poste

-Bistro De La Poste

Will any of these require bookings before we arrive?

Any recommendations inside/outside of that list would be great, as well as which location is better for the couple that are in both cities (e.g. Cuisine Wat Damnak and Malis).

I am asking as I have heard tourism is down, but assume early Jan is still busy.

Phnom Penh Sabre fencing in Cambodia/Phnom Penh

I'm traveling to Phnom Penh for a week during the summer, are there any clubs to fence sabre at? I saw CamEd has a fencing club and I'll contact them, but it's hard to get info on other clubs there because lack of websites, and I want a backup option in case I'm not able to fence at CamEd.

Food Rumduol Fruit from N. Cambodia: export potential?

When I was doing research in northern Cambodia, especially Preah Vihear province, I came upon these amazing deep-Indigo long Rumduol berries (not the national flower)that grow on big trees in leafy bunches. The local Prey Lang guides would stop, we’d all put down our stuff, they’d use machetes to cut down a few kilos of berry bunches, and we’d sit and eat them til they were gone.
The taste of this fruit was fantastic, like a blend of grape popsicle, blueberry pie, blackberry and its own magic X factor flavors

Has anyone else had these?

Phnom Penh Best shipping method for CBM loads from China

I would like to build a boat and need to bring in a few cubic meters of building supplies from China. I have done this before and there is no way I can use a service that goes by weight. For the sizes I need a cubic meter price is usually what I pay. Has anyone ordered this way before? What service do you recommend?

Expat Cambodian License

Have any foreigners on this sub obtained their 10-year Cambodian license with only a 3-month visa extension? According to the paperwork needed, it just says valid visa and the sangkat letter (plus the medical certificate, but they didn’t ask for one when I got mine).

I can’t get an answer via email from the MPWT or Foreigner Driver Center in PP, and don’t want to make an extra 12-hour round trip to ask…

Thank you.

Siem Reap Pre-wedding photography recommendations

Hi looking for recommendations for pre-wedding photography and also recommendations for where we can get our traditional wedding outfits. We will be in Siem Reap 17-22 November and want to get it done during that time. Any recommendations or tips would be really appreciated. I don't think the photographers already at Angkor wat is what we are looking so something more elevated is what we are looking for.

Expat Any idea what will be different for work permit holders this upcoming year?

So im an american national with work visa and work permit holder (EB) under 'self employed', which was a breeze to acquire this year thanks to my agent.

However recently ive been told the regulation have become more stringent and i might not be able to renew my businese visa next year under self employed title.

Is this true and what would be my best option for long term stay? Visa runs are nor an option for me because i dont see that as a secure method.

Thanks in advance

Expat Cambodian Immigration is incompetent

Basically, I hold dual citizenship, let’s say passport 1 and 2.

Passport 1 has a multiple entry EB visa valid until October 15th.
Passport 2 has no Cambodia visa.

Passport 1 will expire in 7 months, so I can’t extend the visa on it, therefore I took a flight out and came back. When re-entering, I gave the immigration officer passport 2 and requested a visa on arrival. He spotted passport 1 and asked for it, I handed it to him but explained that I do not wish to use this passport to enter the country. He tells me no problem, scans passport 2 and tells me that no problem, go to immigration department and request them to transfer the EB visa to your new passport. Shocker, I went there and they can’t do that. They tell me to go back to the airport and request them to fix the mistake they made, the first time I went there, everyone refused to even listen to my problem, then one officer directed me to crossing the land border to Vietnam and returning. I tried to do that during Pchum Ben, and guess what, they denied my exit and told me to go back to the airport again and request the chief of immigration to fix this issue. Went there again, looked around for 2 hours with my friends with rude immigration officer disregarding my problem and telling me I’m wrong. Finally, airline workers helped us get in touch with a supervisor, after meeting him, he said what everyone said, that the officer made a stupid mistake and it’s not my fault. Mind you I spent a lot of money on this (especially the emergency Vietnam Evisa). After making us wait, he comes back and says “yes, we made the mistake, we’ll help you, you should book a flight ticket to your country then come back”. A flight ticket to my country is around 1500-2000 usd as there are no direct flights from here. They say it’s the only way. Then his superior arrives and they explain to him, he tells us to wait and not to worry, they’ll make the officer pay for his mistake and help me accordingly. Today they contact us, to save face, they try to turn the blame on me and tell me to just go to Thailand and then come back. Why the hell would I come back when I was treated thi way? I’ve been here almost 3 years and they treated me with the upmost disrespect. I’m so done. I’m just a simple English teacher, I can’t be spending this much money on someone else’s mistake.

Thank you for reading.

Expat Kampot Hotel recommendations?

Will be spending about a week in Kampot in November and would love some hotel recommendations from people who actually know the area.

We’re in our late 40s and definitely not looking for nightlife, a party hostel, or a loud backpacker scene. We tend to spend our days exploring, walking around, trying restaurants/coffee shops, seeing local sights, and then like having somewhere comfortable and quiet to come back to.

What we're looking for:

  • Mid-range rather than luxury happy to pay more for something genuinely good, but don't need a fancy resort.
  • Very clean, especially the room and bathroom.
  • Good, reliable A/C.
  • Quiet at night. This is a big one.
  • Comfortable bed.
  • Reliable Wi-Fi.
  • Good location: Ideally walkable to restaurants, cafés, the river, etc., without being right in the loudest part of town.
  • A nice pool would be a big plus.
  • Friendly/helpful staff.
  • We'd rather have a hotel with some character than a generic chain.

We’ll probably do Bokor, a pepper farm, Kep, the countryside, etc., so we don't need to be at the hotel all day. We mostly want a comfortable home base where we can relax for a full week.

I've been looking at places like Hotel Old Cinema, Chateau Kampot, Pippali, and Sokchea Kampot hotel. any other suggestions?

Also any places to avoid?

Finance End of Beer Tab Winners

Is anyone else shocked that they actually followed through with the ending the winner tabs. It’s so disappointing to open a beer can only to look at a blank tab. It added so much fun to it. Not to mention, I continuously went back to buy more, the tabs were like a free advertisement in your house all week, as well as a good excuse to go get more beer.

Lowering the price of cases will certainly not make up for this fun, habitual promotional game they had going. I suppose it’s good for many consumer’s health and wallets but beer companies will surely lose out and all these small corner shops will lose out more because every time we exchange our tabs, many of us also tend to buy 4 or 5 other snacks or other unnecessary things.

Any guesses as to how this may play out as beer companies and store owners across Cambodia complain?

Hello, I'm looking for someone who might know what and where this building is, if it still exists. The screenshot is from a propaganda film about the visit of Chinese officials to Cambodia in 1977.

Thank you so much

Travel Solo female traveler in Cambodia

I am a solo female traveler and I’m planning a trip to Cambodia. I did a bit of research about the safety areas overthere but everyone is talking about big cities or busy areas. I’m interested to do places like Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri or Kep and Kampot. Is that still safe when you’re a woman by yourself or you wouldn’t recommend ?
And I’m looking for homestay instead of hostels.

Thank you for taking the time to answer, really appreciate it ☺️
