Thank you! That scene at the end of BvD is so underrated, as is the whole episode tbh. Really sets the tone for season 5 perfectly.

fav in the entire series

This really is, to me, the perfect episode of Buffy. In a series that has so many amazing episodes, I still feel like nothing else comes close to being as good as The Gift.

You know it.

Absolutely. The pacing, the acting, the editing… just top notch

IMO contender for best episode of the series.

It's a nice day for a white stabbing.

Best transition ever

Fool for Love. One of Marsters' top performances in either this show or Angel. A crackerjack of a script, surprisingly (and appropriately) lyrical, with a great wordless ending.

After that, The Body of course. And Spiral/Weight/Gift made for a satisfying trio of ending episodes.

Spike is a great poet as long as he's not writing anything down.

Favorite is the Gift. A top 5 episode for me and a perfect finale.

If I had to pick a "best" by any sort of objective criteria, it would be the Body, which I consider to be not just the best episode of the series, but one of the best episodes of television ever produced. Just not exactly the one I look forward to rewatching.

The Gift. It’s one of the best finales I’ve ever seen. Truly just epic storytelling. It’s also perfectly paced and balances its ensemble cast to perfection.

After that, it would be Fool For Love.

Intervention.

I don't know if I'd say Triangle is my favorite episode, but "He's not a little ball of sunshine!" is one of my top favorite lines.

I ADORE I Was Made to Love You.

I think it's also because I love robots, but April was SO well acted, it's funny, sad, powerful and makes the next episode SUCH a gut punch.

"Ow, I don't know about you guys but I'm about had it with super-strong little women who aren't me!"

I know The Body will be the obvious choice but I always most enjoy Fool for Love.

Fool for Love, Buffy vs Dracula

Fool for love! Basically the perfect Buffy episode.

The Gift, Triangle, Checkpoint. I also have a soft spot for Buffy vs Dracula and Real Me.

Tough Love/Spiral — I consider them a two-parter. Non-stop action. Familial drama. Willow uses dark magic— and actually hurts Glory!

Family and Checkpoint.

Though Season 5 is my favorite season, so I had to sit with this one because with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 episodes, every episode is a banger.

Edit: Special shout out to Real Me, Forever, and Intervention

Checkpoint is a great episode. I remember feeling terrible for Buffy because I felt she was letting the Counsel walk all over her. She didn’t know the Japanese commands for the blindfolded fight and she “failed” the test. They told her that if she didn’t obey them that they’d send Giles back to England. So much crap happened to her during that episode, including Glory coming to her house and the Byzantium dudes waylaying her.

How she figured out what was really happening with the Counsel is a testament to Buffy’s ability to “separate the wheat from the chaff”, so to speak. She’s as smart as they are.

And yeah, I love the sword throw scene!

Having now actually studied Byzantine history and archaeology, I'm wishing they'd really gone all kataphractoi on the costuming for those guys

(But great episode)

The Gift. Pretty much a perfect episode imo.

But also loved Family, Checkpoint and Tough Love.

Fool For Love by far.

Most of them, lol. I would say the obvious No Place Like Home.

Weight of the World. The pace is magical. And Buffy being broken, relatable.

It's a tossup between "Family" (B 5.06?) and "Blood Ties" (B 5.13).

Both are superb character episodes, but also superbly involve the other characters.

"Family" is quite organic because it fully shows the level of love the group has for Willow and that it extended to Tara because of that. It's also the first time the Scoobies are referred to as Family and it's by Buffy herself. And the ending scene in which all the Scoobies are happily at Tara's birthday party, we see other Wiccans there, and Willow/Tara literally float while they dance.

"Blood Ties" is a Dawn episode, but it's also used to further the relationships between the characters, connect Buffy/Spike more, show Willow's increased power, etc. And it has some of the most beautiful lines regarding 'adoption' or 'foster care' or whatever. But also that Buffy considers Dawn her real sister. "Look. It's blood. It's Summers blood. It's just like mind. It doesn't matter where you came from or how you got here. You are my sister. You couldn't annoy me half as much if you weren't." Or whatever the exact lines.

______________

Like "Fool For Love" (B 5.07) is great, but it's almost entirely about Spike and Buffy/Spike.

"Crush" (B 5.14) is great: but same. It was nice to see Drusilla back and see Spike/Dru dancing.

Almost all the BtVS S5 episodes are excellent.

Favorite is Family followed by Checkpoint.

The Body and the Gift are both flawless episodes.
