megathread The Water Cooler [Megathread #7]

• Upvotes

\) 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6\)

New season, new us? With lots of new members since the creation of the last thread and the fandom continuing to grow exponentially, we wanted to start things off right & reset the vibe.

For the newbies: we initially created the first megathread because we were getting a lot of posts that focused on the temporary love interests instead of Buddie, and wanted to contain all of that stuff to a single thread instead of having it take over the sub. But the thing about temporary love interests is the show moves on from them, and we've done that, too. Mostly.

So the megathread isn't just for conversations about Tommy or Taylor or Tia from the plane. It's the place for all your idle chitchat, all the shower thoughts that you realize don't warrant a post of their own, and even just life updates/whatever you want to share with the class.

Basically, this is still the only place on the sub for fandom wank & negative discourse, but we want to keep moving away from wank. If you notice it's the majority of what you contribute, take a breather, because fandom is supposed to be fun.

As these threads have evolved, there are a whole bunch of rules we've implemented along the way, but most generally... just be respectful and don't get the sub shut down. The other subreddit rules apply as well, though we do get kind of lax on the spoiler rules here just because it's so fast-moving. Be courteous -- if you know something from an upcoming storyline that you think someone might not want to learn accidentally, spoiler tag it. Beyond that-

  • Talk about discourse from fans needs to relate back to either wider fandom patterns (a recent example being the perceived hypocrisy between the treatment of Lou Ferrigno Jr's Instagram activity vs. Ryan Guzman's) or be a take that somehow ties back into Buck, Eddie, or Buddie that you want to respond to. Not every off-platform drama needs to be brought here. If you are seeing "a lot" of a particular take on Twitter or Tumblr, please try to keep in mind that that may be a result of the accounts you choose to interact with and not representative of general fandom patterns.
  • Talk about specific fans remains forbidden. If you're providing screenshots of discourse happening elsewhere, the username should be edited out, and ideally their profile pic, too. Screenshots or direct quotes of other conversations happening on Reddit will not be allowed, but you can paraphrase the things you want to talk about.
  • As a general rule of thumb, if you're having to seek out the discourse of other fans by going into their tags or scrolling accounts that aren't even tagging their stuff in ways meant to be discoverable by the larger fandom, it doesn't belong here, particularly if it's the same kind of thing we'd just treat as clowning when "our side" does it. All dead ships have left is fanon, and we should want them to have fun with theirs. It's not hurting us at all if they are asking questions about whether helicopters can safely land on whales.
  • If there's some Big Event that we haven't anticipated that requires a rule adjustment here, we'll let you know. The nature of a megathread is it needs to be able to adapt.

Additionally, please keep in mind that this is still the Buddie sub for fans of Buddie, Buck, Eddie, and the show. If you don't feel that label fits you anymore, kindly gfto. Mods will be more active in policing this moving forward; we will give you timeouts if we think you need assistance in regaining perspective.

YOU ARE LIKELY TO GET SPOILED IF YOU PARTICIPATE IN THIS POST.

A few months ago I came here to share my new funkos of the Buckley-Diaz family, and now I came back to share the newest members of my collection: Bobby, Chim, Hen, and baby Nash. All of them are works of the amazing @belahbiscuit on Instagram. I'm absolutely in love with all of them. *_*

Just to explain the line of thought I used to come up with the art for each one of them:

- I wanted Bobby with full gear like Buck to give the "like father, like son" idea and show his "captain" helmet.

- Chim is with a glove in one hand to show his role as a paramedic, while his other hand is holding his captain helmet to show his new role on the team, and he also has the scar on his forehead from the rebar accident.

- Hen is holding a lab coat and wearing a stethoscope around her neck to show her desire to become a doctor.

- Chim and Hen are only with the coat of their turnouts, so their outfits are a little different from Buck and Eddie's but also show the names on their backs.

- I wanted each one of them to be a little different from each other, so while Buck and Bobby are in full gear, Eddie is with the front of his coat open, while Chim and Hen are only with the coat while wearing their blue pants, and Hen is with the front of her coat open. This way we have different variations of their uniforms, but with all of them having their names on their backs.

- It also shows that Bobby and Buck, being the only ones who are not paramedics, are the only ones in full gear, while the others have at least one thing that identifies them as paramedics.

Like I said before, I'm absolutely in love with them, and I can't wait to add the next members of the Fire Fam to the collection.

general discussion Buddie Is Giving Ross & Rachel

So, I watched a TikTok comparing Buddie’s dynamic to Ross and Rachel’s from Friends, and it made sense to me. Everyone knew R&R would end up together, but the show still decided to wait until the very last season to make it happen.

After R&R broke up in Season 3, their whole dynamic was that, even though they weren’t a couple, they always ended up back in each other’s lives. They accidentally got married while drunk in Vegas, had a baby together, and eventually lived together before finally becoming a couple (again) in the last season.

Now, I’m not saying Buddie will follow the same path, but I do think the show has shaped their relationship in a way that we know they’re going to end up together someday. It’s like every storyline involving one of them somehow involves the other, and they always find their way back into each other’s lives, no matter what happens. Also, just like with R&R, none of their other romantic relationships really make sense to the audience because they just make sense as a couple.

So, I do hope these two get together sooner rather than later, but I wouldn’t be upset if, before that happens, we see them getting more and more involved in each other’s lives, like living together or accidentally getting married while drunk in Vegas, getting jealous when a third person comes into the picture, and things like that…

Season 5 Eddie’s panic attacks are so Buddiecore

Like, seriously. I’m still on my rewatch and I’m in the middle of season 5. How completely blatant were they trying to be about Eddie being subconsciously down bad for Buck? I’m probably the last person on Earth to notice this but it’s still knocking me for six.

It’s not just the panic attacks (plural) Eddie has when people perceive Ana as his, but he also started having a mini attack when that air traffic controller who looked just like Buck had a heart attack. Those were the ONLY panic attacks. I mean COME ON.

Plus, I love that Buck alone clocked Eddie’s panic and wouldn’t let up until he found out what was going on. And even then he trusted their friendship enough to have the hard conversation with Eddie—and Eddie actually listened. He literally didn’t dump his girlfriend until Buck all but told him to.

Istg if they keep stringing us along. At least let Eddie discover his queerness this season!
