"Pittsburgh fans have waited 33 long years for this."

Whew, hopefully they'll never have to endure a drought like that again!

Their previous win was in 1925, so we actually got another two years baby!

Edit: Nvm, I think they mean 33 years to get revenge on the Yankees. I didn't listen to the audio and don't plan on it because I'm a big dum dum.

If you watch Ken Burns' Baseball documentary from 1994, the part where they discuss Maz's walk-off is great because several of the talking heads are Yankees fans and they still weren't over it. It really goes to show that no amount of championship wins is enough for a fanbase.

I believe Bob Costas calls it one of the worst moments of his life. Mickey Mantle is still like viscerally pissed off. He says this is the one time in his career where he can definitively say that the better team lost. Neither of them were being ironic or humorous at all. They truly felt like victims of some cosmic injustice.

It kind of reminds me of watching any NFL Network Top Ten episode about the Immaculate Reception where they interview former Raiders, except for if the Raiders won like 86 total super bowls and no one feels bad for you for losing one.

the 30 yard td run by stabler was almost as much of a fluke as the immaculate reception was.

Omg I can still hear Curt Gowdy and Al DeRogatis creaming themselves about “that extra dimension, the running QB”. Like Stabler invented it or something.

It must have been hard for the Yankees, that one time they weren't the center of attention.

And they still went ahead and gave the series MVP to a Yankees player.

it is unbelievable how they got smoked in the losses and won this series.

Pretty unenthusiastic call by the announcer

Yeah, like a This Week in Baseball newsreel recap for movie audiences.

Funny story about this. Pirate broadcaster (color man, at the time) Bob Prince MISSED the HR because he was in n his way to the locker rooms to watch interview whichever team won. Jim Woods, the play by play man, called the shot. When they cut to Prince in the Pirates locker, he had no idea how they won! So he gave Max about 20 seconds and moved on to the next guy.

I love the over exaggerated crack of the bat that they used in these old highlight videos

The only reason we have this footage is because Bing Crosby had to do his radio show so he sent a camera crew to record the game for him

Wasn’t a big portion of the team win on this one the performance by Elroy Face?

I wouldn’t say so. 3 inning and 4 earned runs

I guess I meant more the series than just the game 7. I thought they did a program on it during a rain delay one game.

Yeah so I just looked. 10.1 inning and 6 er 3 saves. But that damage came in two games. In the two other games each was 2.2 ip and 0 runs. So I’d say very good in 2 games and not so good in the 2 others

Made Mickey Mantle cry.

Mazeroski averaged 8 home runs a year during a 17 year career. He was not a power hitter and hitting a home run in that situation was totally unexpected.

Man what I wouldn’t give to have been able to be at that game that day!

Fun fact: I grew up playing the Bill Mazeroski golf course on route 7 in OH many years ago. He’s from the area near my hometown so it was cool to know this hero grew up right down the road from me.
