LECOM EAP, UIWSOM, or Traditional route at A&M, UTD or UT Austin

• Upvotes

Our son already got accepted to LECOM EAP. We just learned about UIWSOM in TX and cuz we live in TX, are going to apply. He’s auto admit to UT and A&M. He already got into Mays Business at A&M- would do with premed.

If he sticks w LECOM EAP, he’d go to St Mary’s in San Antonio most likely. We applied to other affiliates like USF, NCC and Elmhurst, but thinking of staying in TX would be easier.

Love the guarantee of med school, but don’t like giving up traditional, amazing undergrad experience. But also aware of how hard it is even for top students to get into med school these days.

Son is willing to go to small undergrad. No complaints. I know what he’ll be missing out on though.

Questions: stick w LECOM EAP w St Mary’s then LECOM Bradenton. Or

Go with larger undergrad USF + LECOM EAP Bradenton or

Go traditional w UT or A&M or UTD trad route

Go with UIWSOM early admission

CUNY- Sophie Davis BS/MD Test Optional

I'm currently working on my Sophie Davis application. I know that they are test optional but I'm honestly not sure if I should submit or not. I have a 1430 SAT and a 32 ACT. I have a 96% overall average and 4s and 5s and 6s and 7s for AP and IB. I self-studied AP courses during my sophmore year including AP Bio and Calc. I am doing the full advanced billingual IB diploma too. I feel like my SAT and ACT scores are lower than the standard for the rest of my application. I'm waiting for my SAT score tomorrow but honestly I don't think I'll get a much higher score. Maybe math but not english. I'm retaking the ACT this month so maybe that will go up. Anyways is it better for me to submit test optional or should I submit my current scores?

LECOM BS/DO

Hi guys im applying for LECOM BS/DO Program hopefully this weekend and I just wanted to know if its lowk too late for the seats? I don’t think im applying for any of the super popular undergrads like Bing or anything but I just wanted to know if there are some undergrads (preferably close to nyc) that wouldn’t be filled up atp. I think im competitive for the program but the rolling admissions is the main problem for me at this point.

Brief Stats:
GPA: 93.6
SAT:1550
Clinical internship
Hospital volunteering
Nursing home internship
Study abroad
Children’s Book Publisher
ETC

Also if someone can, could you explain how the application process works with ranking 3 undergrad colleges. Is it like a ranking system where if the 1st undergrad u rank has seats and u get in you go to that one and it just goes down the list if u get rejected from the one above?

Did I ruin my chances at competitive premed/bsmd before I even finished freshman year? 💀

I am currently a junior interested in pursuing premed or applying to competitive BS/MD programs, but I received an out of school suspension during freshman year. Since then I have maintained a completely clean disciplinary record with no further incidents. i have strong academics, research, clinical experience, and extracurriculars, how much would one freshman suspension affect my chances? Do college and BS/MD admissions committees consider personal growth and a clean record afterward, or could a single OSS still be a major red flag? Has anyone been in a similar situation or have insight into how these programs handle disciplinary records? Am I cooked or just overthinking this?

CNA

Will in hurt me if I don't have a CNA license? The part from Canada that I'm from doesn't allow anyone under 18 and without a high school diploma to become a CNA. I called every school in my region and they don't allow it. I've been volunteering at the hospice, the senior home and also my local community health clinic, but I really wanted to become a CNA. I also can't become an EMT due to age reasons either.

I'm a certified lifeguard, swim and lifesaving instructor as well as a first aid and CPR-C instructor. I also teach lifesaving courses. I am also O2 admin and BLS certified. Will this help me or is it a downside that I don't have a CNA license.

I'm a senior too btw.

ShouI keep same ECs for BSMD programs and T20 applications

Should I keep extracurriculars like shadowing and hospital volunteering on my ec list for T20s. I know that they are more passive and low impact, so should I replace with clubs I'm an officer of or keep.

Will two low grades from a Grade 9 summer elective hurt my applications? Is there anything I can do?

Hi everyone! I'm a Canadian student applying to BS/MD programs , and I'm honestly really stressed about something on my transcript. I'd really appreciate any advice, especially from people familiar with Canadian transcripts, STARS, or U.S. university admissions.

I currently have around a 96% overall average, and aside from this one summer course, I don't have any grades below an 87%. However, between Grades 9 and 10, I took a summer Information Processing course that I really regret taking.

The course was heavily marketed when it was first introduced, and there was a lot of encouragement to register. My mom also encouraged me to take it because I thought it would be an easy way to earn some extra credits. I didn't realize how much time it would require, especially since I was taking 3 lifeguarding courses at the same time.

The course mainly consisted of spreadsheets and other fairly basic information-processing tasks. It was divided into several subunits, but each subunit ended up appearing on my transcript as a separate credit, rather than being combined into one overall course grade as I had expected. I received a 99% in one section and 88% in another but a 57% in another because I didn't finish part of the project. I genuinely thought the grades would be averaged together, and I also didn't realize that this Grade 9 summer course would appear on my transcript in a way that could affect my university applications.

I'm now applying to U.S. universities and am worried about how these separate credits might affect my unweighted GPA or how admissions officers evaluate my academic record. I'm especially concerned about whether the 57% could significantly hurt my applications despite my otherwise strong grades.

I've been told that if a course appears on my Alberta transcript, I have to report it and probably cannot remove it. I don't want to hide anything or misrepresent my academic history, but I also don't know whether there's any way to explain the circumstances or have the transcript reviewed.

*Also it was literally a one credit course...

My questions are:

  • Will U.S. universities actually calculate an unweighted GPA using these summer-course grades, or will they evaluate my transcript differently?
  • How much could a 57% in one Grade 9 summer elective affect an application when the rest of my grades are strong?
  • Is there any way to provide context in my applications, or would explaining it draw unnecessary attention to it?
  • Is it worth contacting my school, Alberta Education, or the course provider to ask whether the transcript can be corrected or whether the separate credits can be reviewed?

I know this was a mistake, and I regret taking the course, but I can't change what happened. I'm worried that one unfinished project from a summer elective I took between Grades 9 and 10 could undermine years of hard work.

I'd really appreciate honest advice. Thank you!

Is shadowing necessary if you already volunteer at hospital?

My local hospital(s) don't allow for students under 18 to shadow. But they allow volunteers to work jobs like creating visitor passes, transporting patients, helping sort out paperwork, etc. I have probably volunteered at the hospital for 150-200 hours.

If I don't have any shadowing hours, is my application done for?
