How hard is it to get a 16+ scores in Brugge, howest hogeschool?

Hey guys, Asian exchange student here in Bruges. Our Flemish teachers warned us that they’re not really generous when it comes to high grades 😭

I know 10/20 is already passing here, but I’m hoping to aim for 16+ if I can.

A friend of mine actually studied here last semester and managed to get 19/20 in one of her subjects, but apparently even the teachers told her that getting a 19 is really rare here. So now I kinda want to follow what she did and ask her how she studied/worked for it, but I’m lowkey afraid to ask hahaha.

For people studying in Belgium/Flanders, what actually separates something like a 12–14 from a 16+ or even an 18–19? Is it about going way beyond what the assignment asks, more critical thinking, examples, research, participation, or what?

Just trying to understand the grading culture here before things get serious lol.

I’m absolutely smitten

This is the first leg of a 12 day Belgium/Netherlands trip, and I’m in love. I have about 2.5 days here, then heading to meet a friend in Amsterdam tomorrow but wish I didn’t have to leave. There are a lot of tourists, so from like 11a-5p I explored areas slightly outside the core. Food was great, it’s absolutely beautiful, and a much slower pace than larger European cities. I stayed at the Pand and can’t recommend it enough; I’ll definitely be staying here on future trips.

Anyway, Bruges, I absolutely love you.

Signed, an American just happy to be far away from the orange menace for a while

Nationalé loterij tombola: calvariedrieluik adornesdomein

One of the art pieces from the Jeruzalemkapel could use a restoration. The nationale loterij has an option to get this paid for if enough votes are assembled. Of you want to support our local heritage, please vote at https://www.nationale-loterij.be/erfgoedtombola/vlaanderen/het-calvariedrieluik

Hello there all. I’m looking forward to visiting Bruges in November, and was curious about what modes of transport exist in the city, specifically if there is an e-bike service like Dott? All the best to you all.

Bruges Dream Hotels

Hello. I’ll be staying in Bruges for 5 nights in February, taking day trips to Antwerp, Ghent, and Brussels. Then going to Paris for another 5 nights. I’m looking for a beautiful, comfortable hotel with some history and style. I’d like to walk to the train station for my day trips. What do you recommend? Thank you!

Hey I made a post here recently looking for help with accommodation and was pointed to kotwest, and have since been unsuccessful there.

I dont mean to be annoying but would anyone have any other leads, me and my friend are looking but also willing to split up if needed.

So far we have tried so many facebook groups and most real estate wont work with us due to our short time here (until jan)

Any help is so much appreciated

Trash issue

Does anyone else has issues with the waste trash? We had two of those waste buckets and we live in an apartment. How do you even clean them?! It's the one with the green top. And especially in summer, it was awful, maybe in winter it will be better. Anyone got the same issues and maybe some tips? Thank you!

EV charging - Interpark Ezelstraat

I’ll be on holiday in Bruges later this month for 5 days.

I’m planning on parking in Interpark Ezelstraat.
Can anyone who has used EV charging there let me know if there are normally spaces available?
I believe it is 11kw so I’ll need to be on charge for 6 hours or so.
Are there additional charges for leaving my car in the charging bay after it is finished charging (I will arrive late afternoon so it will finish charging at night, can I wait until the morning to move into a normal space?)

Do I need to use my own cable - type 2?

Or better suggestions for charging / parking (my hotel is very close to this car park)

Christmas Eve in Bruges: Dining recommendations

Every year, we spend Christmas in Bruges. In recent years, we’ve always enjoyed the Christmas menu at the Crowne Plaza on Christmas Eve, but it’s about time we tried something different. Do you know of any restaurants that are open on 24 December and offer a (Christmas) menu?

Restaurant Recommendation for a small birthday surprise in Bruges

I’m visiting Bruges for 2 days with my mom, and I’d love to casually celebrate her birthday while we’re there.

I’m considering a fine dining (or elevated casual) restaurant for dinner, and want to arrange a small surprise, like "Happy Birthday" written on a dessert plate, or having the server bring out a small cake after the dessert.

Since I’m not from Belgium, I’m not sure if local restaurants are usually open to arranging things like this. Does anyone have recommendations for restaurants in Bruges that can arrange birthday touches, or experience arranging something similar?

Thanks in advance for sharing your tips!

Help finding accommodation

Hi, I'm a student who's travelling to Bruges for college exchange programme and really struggling to find somewhere to live, Everyone I have reached out to has said they don't do such short rental periods (September 11th - January)

going to be attending Howest, so if anyone can help me with good websites of rental areas around Bruges (even outside Bruges, if I can commute)

Really, any help is appreciated as my travel day is quickly approaching, and I would like to figure this out as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance.

coffee place to have a read

Hello,

I'm staying in Brugge for two weeks for business and I'm looking for a somewhat cheap coffee place to have a quiet read and work a bit. I've found some places online, but I have the feeling those are more meant for tourists. That is why I'm asking for recommendations here.

Thanks!
