So I genuinely believe that Black Ops 7 WAS supposed to be 6, now hear me out.
So why I believe that Black Ops 7 was supposed to be 6 has entirely to do with MWII. Infinity Ward, as we know, threw a hissy fit over the poor reception due to their lack of following up on feedback, and we know that MWIII was supposed to be DLC for MWII that got transformed into a premium experience by Sledgehammer, and we all know that Treyarch had something planned for 2025 as that was the year that Black Ops 2 took place 13 years prior, but I believe that because of Infinity Ward’s hissy fit and Sledgehammer had to take over and turn year 2 DLC into MWIII, but because Sledgehammer had to turn DLC into a full experience, that left 2024 empty, and Treyarch having a game worked on up to that point developed Black Ops 6 during MWIII’s life cycle and either the Treyarch higher ups or, more likely, Activision had the devs make Black Ops 6 and make them tell us that they just developed the games side by side.
To me that kind of explains why the game felt hella empty and why the content felt next to empty outside of an event that no one asked for damn near every season and season reloaded. And I believe that it explains why Black Ops 7 feels so much more alive and full of content. Like every single map in Black Ops 6 was either cut from the Avalon BR map with little changes once the full map came out, were originally MWIII assets that got transformed into Black Ops 6 assets, were from the campaign, or were remastered maps that actually had absolutely nothing to do with Avalon, unless you’re Hacienda then you got transformed into a place on Avalon’s BR map versus being in the bum-fuck nowhere mountains or Nuketown and were in your own place.
Now I can probably hear the keyboards clacking and the nails clicking on your phone or tablet screens saying “Well what about zombies and the campaign?” and to you that’s a little bit of where some of my thinking falls apart, but with zombies I feel like the story would have been similar to what we had in Black Ops 6, whilst the futuristic weapons wouldn’t have made sense in a 90’s setting, before you hit me with that logic take a look at BO 2 (on the maps that take place in the past like Origins and Mob of the Dead) 3, and 4 with the futuristic weapons of the game and then come back before I get the whole “Well futuristic weapons wouldn’t work in a past setting,” and the maps, except Terminus, all take place on Warzone maps. Whilst Liberty Falls probably wasn’t supposed to be a Warzone map originally, it is one, and Shattered Veil, Liberty Falls, and Reckoning all take place in the same area and the Tomb and Citadelle take place on Avalon, making Terminus the ONLY map for zombies that take place in a game original space that wasn’t designed for Warzone originally. I mean I’m pretty sure Citadelle is the only map in BO6 zombies that you’d really have to look around to find, but almost every map, zombies or multiplayer, except Terminus, you can find in Warzone.
Now campaign is the only part I’m shaky on with this theory. I’m sure the Cradle still would’ve played some role in the Black Ops 7 campaign since both games used it, but only Black Ops 7’s used it heavily and I don’t think it would’ve originally been an open world mess that no one liked, although I think it was Raven not wanting to let go of something interesting from the Black Ops 6 campaign since Black Ops 6’s campaign wasn’t all that bad, but then again coming up with campaigns in not very much time is something COD isn’t new to.
Alright, now that you’ve spent a good few minutes reading to most likely call my ass too unemployed, crazy, or just say “Someone take his cart from him,” which jokes on you I’ve got asthma and two ex officers and one active officer in the family that would kick would chew my ass out and leave whatever’s left for my mom to kick my ass, always let me know what you think.
