Character discussion Chuck Lorre reveals behind-the-scenes secrets from set in new memoir

He says the main actors were outraged when asked to take a 10% pay cut to pay Mayim and Melissa. With how much money the show made CBS I would probably be a little angry as well.

Episode discussion How did they shoot this on location in Union Station?

The answer? They didn't. Even though I swore that was the actual train station in L.A. when I first saw it, it was actually filmed on a highly detailed soundstage replica set built at Warner Bros. Studios. Pretty amazing, actually.

Character discussion Raj's mom ?

I'm currently watching Season 8, and I was wondering if there was ever any behind-the-scenes explanation for Raj's mom disappearing after the divorce. We still see his dad occasionally, but his mom is never mentioned or seen again, even though it's been established several times that Raj is a mama's boy. So, was there ever an explanation related to the actress or a behind-the-scenes reason why she stopped appearing on the show?

Other The Sets

I cannot imagine how complex it was to keep track of the sets for such a long-running show. I was trying to remember all the recurring sets (not including the one-offs) and I am sure I am missing a few. I tried to list them in order of frequency. Some of the sets disappeared when their time on the show was up, the Cheesecake Factory being the most notable of those.

  • Leonard and Sheldon's apartment
  • Penny's apartment
  • Hall in between the two apartments
  • The stairwell
  • The lobby
  • The laundry room
  • The Cheesecake Factory
  • Howard's mother's house (later appearing redecorated as a home for he and Bernadette)
  • Raj's Original Apartment (the Raj Mahal), Raj's Second Apartment
  • Comic Book Store
  • Cal Tech cafeteria
  • Cal Tech hallways
  • Cal Tech offices
  • Leonard's lab
  • Howard's lab
  • Bernadette's apartment
  • Amy's apartment (including the hallway)
  • Bernadette's office
  • Various car interiors (mostly Leonard's and Penny's)

I am sure I missed something glaringly obvious, but even this list was getting too long.

Character discussion Is this wierd, or what?

I watched a video on Youtube this morning of a guy exploring the Devil's Gate Reservior in Pasadena, downriver on the Arroyo Seco in view of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

In the video, he detailed the wierd life of one of the early rocket pioneers whose work gave rise to the laboratory that would become JPL:

Jack Parsons.

Today, out of curiousity, I looked up the area on Google Maps. In the video, the narrator speculates about the work going on ahead of the dam. Turns out its regular removal of sediment from the area.

I found out that last tidbit by reading up on the reasons why the work is done, and learned this:

Material is hauled from the reservoir to Sheldon Pit in Sun Valley via the West 210 Freeway, Foothill Boulevard, Osborne Street, Glenoaks Boulevard, and Sheldon Street (returning via the reverse route).

If only we had a real Sheldon Cooper who could calculate what the odds would be that in watching some random YouTube video and then randomly looking up details mentioned in it that I would stumble across the last name of the actor who played Sheldon Cooper, and the first name of the character himself!

Edit: I failed to mention in original post conclusion that the third leg of this coincidence is that Pasadena is the setting of the show.

Guysssss, I noticed like yk how young sheldon always wears a buttoned up shirt and sometimes with a bow tie, which is totally adorable and professional, but then you see sheldon in tbbt, bros wearing a full hand tshirt with another tshirt on top. Why is there a mismatch in style ???

Curiousity post.

Edit: Omg yall need to calm down, im not hating, im still watching the show and this was a question that popped into my head. I love both the shows and i love whoever sheldon is in both. This was just a question omg.

Other Sheldon helped me with my Autism and OCD

Hello everyone, I wanted to talk about something that’s been on my chest for a while to see if anyone else had any similar experience

I’m a young adult girl and I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in high school and am currently in the process of being diagnosed with OCD

Let me preface that when I first heard about the big bang theory I thought it was the dumbest most unfunny thing ever. The creepy guys and sexist characters grossed me out and everyone on the show irritates me. The humor is outdated and I never intended on ever being a fan. Then one day a friend of mine put it on the TV in the background and I was mesmerized. I watched every single episode afterwards glued to the screen, and the reason? Sheldon! Everything he did enthralled me, he was so relatable! He had all of the autistic and ocd traits I had and I loved seeing him interact with other people and his friends because it mirrored me exactly. The good and the bad. I liked that when he did something insensitive he got talked to about it and that his friends held him accountable. I loved all of his weird little habits that I also shared, and I loved that despite his quirks his friends work to accept him anyways.

When I was a kid my mom always told me I’d never be the kind of person that had a lot of friends. Harsh but true. I know people like to baby those with disabilities but being autistic and ocd is hard, and I definitely have made my friends feel bad and hurt them because of my actions. Part of growing pains is learning how to not hurt those around you, and you have to learn to understand a neurotypical person in the same way you want them to understand a neurodivergent person. I might not have a lot of friends, but those I do have are like Sheldon’s. Despite my flaws and strange habits, they love and care for me so much they’ve learned to adapt. And now that young Sheldon has come out I’ve been loving that one even more!!!! It’s like watching a documentary about my life as a kid! (Well I didn’t go to college when I was like 9 but still). The bullying, the lessons about being selfish and mean as a child and learning to be nice to others, and learning how to live with parents and siblings that fit the traditional southern family mold when you’re just so different.

I love BBT and young Sheldon and I’m not saying it’s perfect, but I love that Sheldon gets to be a bad person too. Unlike other shows that kind of do the savant and cute/quirky thing way too much, Sheldon is just kind of a weird eccentric prick. And I LOVE THAT. Because when I was a kid and I didn’t understand social cues or empathy I WAS A PRICK! I wasn’t some cute little manic pixie dream girl with quirky autism I was a dysfunctional and awful kid. But I had so much to love about me as well, just like Sheldon does. And I love that his friends at the end of the day accept him and challenge him to learn and grow as a person by the end of the series.

It’s become such a comfort series for me and I’m so grateful it came out at the time it did because I like that Sheldon gets treated as a regular human. They never mention his autism and it lets them show the actual true reality of how autistic people get treated and treat others in the real world and the drama and amazing things that happen because of it.

Maybe I sound super crazy but that was just my revelation. However Howard is awful and I wish he didn’t exist amen

Character discussion A connection to Sheldon's Nobel speech

in season 3 episode 1 Sheldon says he can't mention his friends in his noble prize acceptance speech but in the series finale he does just that, he makes it all about his friends. I think it shows how much he really did grow because he felt bad because of how he made his friends feel and I doubt he would have in season 3.

it was really a full circle moment.

Thoughts?

Storyline discussion Is anyone Bothered by Raj not having a GF by the end of the season?

Is anyone Bothered by Raj not having a GF by the end of the season?

- I know Asian American oppression and de-sexualization are prevalent in Hollywood

- The industry is ran by white executives. So obviously, Asian men are never shown as sexy and desirable.

- But what cut the deepest is: this is a show about outcast men (all Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard were shown as nerdy and undesirable; even Howard was seen by Penny as gross and repellant at first; his redemption arc of becoming a better man thanks to Bernadette was a big highlight of the show). In a show about outcast men, all the white boys got girlfriends (and married) at the end EXCEPT FOR THE ASIAN GUY. Basically, the racist message was clear: Even among the undesirables, Asian men rank the lowest. Tell me that is not offensive and hurtful to you. "We're gonna show all white nerds they can get laid, get love, and get married. There's hope for you, white nerds. Asian nerds: tough luck. Good luck being extinct and alone forever."

- Sheldon and Leonard were all fully realized characters. Sheldon's acceptance speech at the end showed how much he grew. Leonard came out of his shell thanks to Penny. Raj's character was always an afterthought, a stereotype and never realized.

Disclaimer - To anyone who thinks: "It's just a show, get over it", no, representation is important. Looking up at your tv and seeing people that look like you succeed in life is how people build self-esteem. Kids need role models. Even adults need role models. Telling marginalized minorities to just ..."get over it" is insensitivity coming from a position of extreme privilege and ignorance.

Anyone who said: "It has been brought up over and over. Give it a rest." Easy for you to say. People suffering from racism and ending up in jail because of racial profiling, did they get a rest? If something is a constant and daily suffering, it should be talked about daily. Silencing minorities, blaming the victim, and guilt-tripping/gaslighting are all oppressive behaviors.

Anyone who said: Raj was the weirdest, most offensive one who grew the least over the course of the show. That was my point exactly: he was never given the chance or space to grow.

Please be kind to each other and to me. I am a human with emotions and a family. :) Much love. (my intention of writing this post is imply to help empower, foster healthy debate, and bring awareness)
