was on 2mg for 3 fucking years and had no idea how low that was

if you did them sublingually it was probably at least somewhat suppressing T

that said it still fucking sucks and im sorry

If you don’t mind my asking, what’s a reasonable amount to be on? I want to make sure my doctor has been dosing me appropriately.

APPARENTLY (grain of salt here) 6-8 mg is normal, least for injections

u/NuestroBerry 6d ago

Thank you so much for responding.

Any idea for sublingual?

I was on 5mg per day paired with 50mg of spiro (I think) before I switched to injections

u/NuestroBerry 1h ago

And that was treating you okay? I’m on 8mg E sublingually, 200 mg Spiro orally.

i was also severely underdosed for years. sucks

im on 2mg of estrofem (pills) is that a low dose?

3

u/voidsunrise 4d ago

i don't know what estrofem is but assuming it's the same as estradiol then yeah that seems pretty low
make sure you're taking it sublingually if you want to get the most out of it
ofc disclaimer that i'm not an endocrinologist and you should probably ask elsewhere about this for more accurate info

TRUE! eternal war against endocrynogists!

I have come to realise over my seven months of treatment that these people don't know what the fuck they're doing. And if I don't push them they'll heppily wait 5 years to give me a reasonable dose.

The guy fully thinks he can get my estrogen high enough for natural T suppression (in order to avoid using t-blockers, which he says would accelerate breast growth).
My treatment is putting me at like 1/3 of the needed level for proper t suppression.
i suspect he's stupid all around.

I think I have some sort of undiagnosed intersex condition tbh I dont think I should start with diy i think i need a doctor to test me first but I am so scared to ask for that cause istg doctors can really fucking suck

u/DragoTheFloof 6d ago

I'm in a similar boat, I have some sort of medical issue that causes mild facial hair growth and total amenorrhea (I'm FtM.) I don't know whether to start T because I don't know what the hell is going on with my body

2

u/Ithrowawaygoaway 6d ago

I havent been able to grow any facial hair and I still have regular though very heavy period. But I have very small breasts and can put on muscle easily so I've been able to go to the beach shirtless (it was a little terrifying at first) and been able to send shirtless photos of myself without anyone thinking I wasn't cis. As well as some patchy chest hair (cis women can get a small amount of chest hair but mine is more than just the occasional odd hair). To be honest my level of dysphoria is pretty low because of all of it so I'm not sure how much I even need T, I do think I need to see a doctor though because what the fuck??

good luck man i feel you

Find a new endocrinologist instead of going to the same one that you hate and is trying to kill you or stop you from transitioning bro 😭

Reddit fucking loves generalizing populations into monoliths and it pisses me the fuck off

I’d recommend someone I know will do their job if it wouldn’t inadvertently doxx me/them 😭😭😭

I said it before and I’ll say it again despite the downvotes, trans people (and everyone, but specifically trans people in this case) NEED to be INCREDIBLY careful with what you put in your body, especially injecting it directly into your bloodstream. (Ok mild exaggeration, I’ll admit thats not correct, but the point stands)

Also, despite what you know (and some of y’all know a lot), you are probably not as smart or knowledgeable as an endocrinologist. Its okay to be doubtful or find a new endocrinologist, but don’t do something rash.

I can’t stop you from buying drugs, and I’ve heard of how bad gender dysphoria can be, but for the love of fucking god, don’t be a moron. You don’t and can’t know the real intentions of the person giving you drugs. At least an endocrinologist went to college and got a degree in medicine, and will prove it to you

If you want to give me a constructive fucking reply, I’ll listen, but I have not received a single message that even attempts to disprove my claim that buying drugs online is dangerous. Instead of downvoting me, how about you try to argue your fucking case? Or are you somehow unable to admit that buying drugs from someone you don’t know is dangerous?

u/Clod_Cat5 6d ago

I mean it is possible that they already tried finding a new one, but all of the ones they went to were jerks, but of course I do not know OP's situation

8

u/Woofle_124 6d ago

Entirely possible, yes

Still not smart to do something rash, but obviously hating on shitty transphobic people isn’t rash or bad lmao

u/Clod_Cat5 6d ago

exactly

"injecting it directly into your bloodstream"

holy shit you should be an endocrinologist, you're clearly qualified

3

u/evilmexico 5d ago

You dont inject anything into your bloodstream though. Im not sure whether the standard is subcutaneous or intramuscular, but theyre pretty similar afaik. I do subcutaneous and its very easy. In fact, (at least with subcutaneous) I think that as long as you're injecting into the correct place, it would be kind of difficult to hit a vein. And you'd probably know right away if you did, so you probably wouldn't go through with the injection at that point.

I know you said that it was a mild exaggeration, but i think that these are completely different things.

1

u/Woofle_124 5d ago

Yeah I got that bit wrong lmao

Nobody has argued in favor of buying drugs and yet I’m being downvoted, which is odd…

2

u/evilmexico 5d ago

Well I think there just isnt much to argue about. The suppliers you buy these things from are based on community trust. When you've found the right one, you can be reasonably sure that what you're getting isn't dangerous, but absolutely no one is going to tell you that there's no risk at all. It's a generally safe thing, but not risk free.

But that relatively tiny risk is very worth it for a lot of people. If I couldn't get my HRT when I did I probably would've just ended it. Dealing with doctors who didn't know how to help and having to tip-toe around my family was utterly exhausting, and it was getting me nowhere. But researching a reputable vendor, figuring out my dosage and finding the right needles ahead of time just took a single day, and the estradiol + needles took less than a week to be delivered.

Of course there's a risk, but if the reward outweighs the risk by a very wide margin, then what's there to argue about?

0

u/Woofle_124 5d ago

Again, I’m not all that well versed in the specifics of it, but it feels like the risk is being downplayed

“Community trust” cannot possibly mean “generally safe,” the risks are insane

I get why its done but it seems very dangerous, much more than people say it is

The reward definitely outweighs the risk for most people though, I assume (at least perceived risk, given my previous comments)

u/oogrug 6d ago

i think you're overestimating how easy it is to simply find a new endocrinologist. every month spent waiting for an appointment, waiting for a follow-up, etc. is a month your transition is postponed or interrupted. those months add up, and the cost for people with GD is immense. i'm saying this as someone who's happy with my endo. but i'm happy with them because i'm in a very large city, with very good insurance provided through work, and they came recommended by another trans friend -- i.e., because i had a lot of luck. anyway, DIYing is much safer than you may believe.

also i am morally obligated to lol @ "injecting it directly into your bloodstream"

-1

u/Woofle_124 6d ago

If you believe your endocrinologist isn’t doing their job, would you rather wait a month for a new one or keep going to the same useless one? If your time will be wasted regardless, you might as well look for a new one.

2

u/Danter7734 5d ago

But couldn't that time not be also used to learn about the topic oneself and save one the pain of waiting months for the chance on an endocrinologist who might know about transgender healthcare? Or what about people in countries with year long wait lists? Are they supposed to suffer and wait out to maybe get the treatment they need?

1

u/Woofle_124 4d ago

Could the time not also be spent researching an endocrinologist that people know does their job instead of doing it yourself? I couldn’t image the transgender community has NO account of endocrinologists

1

u/Danter7734 4d ago

Well it can take months to get a endocrinologist appointment.

And I'm still curious about your opinion of DIY in countries with waiting lists that are years long

1

u/Woofle_124 4d ago edited 4d ago

More valid than a country with more readily available endocrinologists, but it doesn’t make anything less dangerous, only more understandable

Care to give me an example?

Just looked into this some more and found this, arguing in favor of both of our cases lmao

“The prevalence of DIY HRT varies considerably depending on location and population: 9.2% of participants reported DIYing HRT in a national sample of U.S. trans people (Stroumsa et al., 2020) while 80% of transfeminine people surveyed in São Paulo, Brazil used DIY HRT (Maschião et al., 2020)” (August-Rae et al., 2024)

Looking through that article and the one link below it, I have found that a) nobody gives fucking evidence, and b) safety is incredibly decisive

There are things I might have been wrong about but I WOULD know if they CITED EVIDENCE

August-Rae et. al., 2024 repeatedly mentions “the biomedical assumption that treatment from professionals is always safer and healthier” and then doesn’t say whether its true or not 😭
