Got most my favorite pedals on here. Pretty soon I’d like to replace the stomp with an analog preamp, and run a wet/dry chain, split after the compressor with dry going through the Neptunium, and the wets going through all the dirt and preamp, and then blended back in together. Really loving this setup, and bonus points for my favorite color 🍊🤟🏽

I am working on my first pedalboard. I am already quite an established player playing every sort of gig from metal to jazz to funk to dance and everywhere inbetween. I am starting to write metal music that is pretty tool inspired but I am also getting a bunch of pop gigs so I figure now is the time to build the versatile board for my needs.

What I would love is to show you the plan and what I already have and see if you can find holes or ask questions and give critiques and make me think things through before I pull the gun on a bunch of this.

Bass Pedals Signal Chain

Hi, I need help/tips/advice for the ideal signal chain.

Current setup:

Bass guitar > Tuner > Bass DI box > Compressor

Where should I "insert" the EQ and overdrive in the chain?

Current rig:

- Korg Pitchblack tuner

- MXR M80 Bass DI Box

- MXR Studio Compressor

- MXR M89 Bass Overdrive

- MXR M108S 10-band EQ

Or should I change the chain entirely?

TIA!

NPD (Again) JHS Pulp n Peel

I owned the Pulp n Peel in the past, and have seriously regretted selling it over the last year… so here we are. I’m moving the Empress compressor over to my small board, because I’ve felt it’s needed a good compressor, and this is going back on the big board!!

Loving how clean it looks. Chain is working but didn't know if I should have my tuner or the compressor first in line.

Current board vs my first board

First picture is the current board, and the second picture is the board when it was given to me by my dad (besides the bass big muff).

The last time I posted the state of my board was six years ago with my first board. I finally finished arranging and setting up my current one, so what better time than now to post. some pedals have come and gone in the time between then and now. some pedals are going anywhere. Some pedals are sitting on my desk, waiting for the right use. Some pedals are gone forever. Some pedals are yet to come. With that said, this will probably be my main set up for a while.

NP[s]D - First Chase Bliss experience

Found someone on Facebook Marketplace near me selling both of these pedals at a discount, barely used. I have been having so much fun playing around with them trying to create unique sounds and effects worthy of the preset slots. I had to move my current board to the mantle of my office so that I can easily tweak the knobs and read the guides (which are also awesome).

The Onward is all about dark, glitchy ambience, and the Lost & Found is the most whimsical Frankenstein of a musical Swiss-Army knife anyone could imagine. My mind has just been racing at the possibilities with both of them.

Really love what they’re doing over there at Chase Bliss. I’m eyeing the Mood Mk.ii for my next pedal. If you have setting configurations for the Onward or L&F that you love, drop them in a comment!

Bonus picture of my co-sound engineer, Monty.

The MXR El Grande bass fuzz is super cheap, but is it any good?

I'm always interested in bass fuzzes. I love playing one-man doom stuff. I've noticed for awhile now that the MXR El Grande is always really cheap used. I was surprised when I searched for it on this sub and only got one post from four years ago that nobody replied to.

So I figured I'd try asking again to see if anyone has anything to say about it.

Now that I mention it, I've also been curious about the MXR (I think) Blow Torch bass distortion (or fuzz, I can't remember atm). Anyone have an opinion on that one too?

Difference between Sansamp BDDI V2 and VT DI?

I'm seeing very mixed reviews and demos regarding the BDDI V2 and VT DI. What are the differences? I'm sure that neither is inherently better than the other. But, I'm looking for a simple, compact option that adds some nice saturation without being too grindy. From what I've seen, either can get decently aggressive and either can get pretty neutral. So, what's the deal? Should I even get one, or would something like the new Subway+ Mesa DI be better?

I've got a great modeler that I use for effects, and it does great for distortion and gain. So, I don't necessarily need a lot of grit. But, I'm looking for some tube-style saturation and a good-quality DI. I was considering getting something like a Radial JDI, but am thinking that a preamp DI might be better, given that they're similarly priced and that I'd like a bit of saturation.

Thoughts? Alternatives? Preferences?

Drive Comparison

Anyone directly pinned the LucyDreamer against the Origin DCX or Empress Drive. I’m not in a position to buy both and compare, and don’t see anything on YouTube comparing them directly.
For context, I’m looking for a very low gain drive that I can pair with a Jam Rattler for higher gain. Something to add just a bit of extra saturation in choruses, during guitar solos, etc. I use a Bass Soul Food now but it is far too nasally and I feel like it loses a little low end, even with the blend favoring the clean.
I’ve tried the Beta V, which had too gain at its lowest setting, the Darkglass VMT, which didn’t have enough top end and got lost in the live mix, the Jive, which I just didn’t like any better than the Soul Food, and the Morning Glory clean, which was too low gain.
You guys steered me right with the empress purchase earlier this week, hoping to get feedback here on this too.
Probably not making a purchase immediately, so I’m curious where this goes.

Updated my board by removing the MC-6 midi controller and using the space to put the SANSAMP & EQ for a quicker access to toneshaping tools. Mvave midi controller has s smaller form factor and have 8 banks so it should be enough.

The HX stomp will carry the FX and extra load when necessary.

NPD Empress Comp

All right, you guys got me. I’ve been perfectly fine with my UAFX for over a year, but all the positive reviews of the Empress every single day had me wondering.
Well, I grabbed one, and bought the guitar compressor by mistake. I didn’t realize until I unboxed it. I figured I would try it anyway and compare it to the UAFX. I expected to want to return it for the bass version. Or that it wouldn’t be that much better than the UAFX. Love to say I was wrong. You guys weren’t kidding, this thing sounds great. Same settings as the UAFX and a low end that sounds like it came from the depths of Mt Doom. Sustain that went on for days. I could feel it. Hear it, yes, but feel it. I don’t think I’ll be exchanging anything, I don’t know how it could get any better. Anyone wanna buy a UAFX 1176 pedal? Haha.
Next up the DCX. I think.

Show me your small paddleboard that works well with both guitar and bass

I’m looking to put together a pretty simple like pedaltrain Min, or nano plus or similar board that will work well for both guitar and bass. I’m looking for the following pedals at the very least.

Tuner (already have a few)
Eq
Comp
Drive and or fuzz
Octave (I already have an OC5)
Synth
Looper (I already have a bunch of these)

So really I’m looking for an EQ, comp, drive, fuzz, synth and I guess maybe a multi effects (I have a fractal AM4 and VP4 already), I don’t know why but so many people don’t seem to be using fractal for bass even though it has bass effects) that you have enjoyed using for both bass guitar and guitar. I don’t know why half of these pedals are listed as only being for regular guitar or bass guitar but there’s gotta be some good versatile ones out there where I can make a small board and use it for either instrument.

Let’s see pictures of the pedalboard you use for both, or at least good examples of pedals in the above categories that you have really liked using for both instruments

Considering getting the Anagram, please help!

I need some constructive feedback on my current setup and whether it would be beneficial for me to switch it out with the Darkglass Anagram.

I am currently using the board in picture one, with an added Orange Amp Detonator splitter pedal at the end of the chain and then bi-amping through my two amps, shown in pic two.

Lately I have been eyeing the multieffect pedal that my guitarist uses (don't know which one) and recalled all the videos I have seen of the Anagram and its metric butt load of effects to choose from, which made me think that maby the Anagram would be worth getting to replace my current board.

I have never had any multifx pedals and don't know what I would be sacrificing, tonally, by going with the Anagram.

Please and thank you for your knowledge and experiences!

P.s. I play bass in a melodic metalcore-ish band.

ETA: I am keeping the amps and cabs, so will be bi-amping with the Anagram too.
