I will never understand people who leave early at regular games let alone post season games. Are we going to come back? Probably not. But can you imagine if we did and you missed it because you left early lol. I'd regret it for the rest of my life
60
u/phl_fc Baltimore Orioles 3h ago
I have learned that with kids sometimes the game really doesnāt matter. Iāve left events early because itās not worth bringing on a meltdown just to see the end.
The other thing Iāve learned is that you can save a ton of money going to minor league sports and your little kids wonāt know the difference.

u/PayCreepy5430 St. Louis Cardinals 3h ago
Yep came here to say this. But for a playoff game, no chance Iām leaving early
7
u/Appropriate_Ad5479 2h ago
Absolutely. Especially if I'm a fan of the home team. If the Cardinals ever make it back to the post season and I'm lucky enough to go, I don't care if you threaten me with bodily harm. I'm not leaving until it's over.
24
u/bv310 Toronto Blue Jays 3h ago
Hell, I missed a tying knock in the 7th of a meaningless game this year because I went to get one last beer and I still regret it.

I was at the Cleveland Seattle game growing up and my Dad and I stayed the whole game to watch the Tribeās 12 run comeback. Never once would I consider leaving a game early besides the fact being there is an amazing experience even when losing. Bunch of bitches Dodger fans lol. Team needs to add another $100MM in payroll next year apparently.
27
u/No_Clue4405 Cleveland Guardians 2h ago
I mean, it depends. Like⦠if I paid some cheap change to go see the Aās and I got shit to do towards the end of the game, Iād probably leave a bit early. But, September-October ball and frankly any other sport is different. I feel like Baseball is the only sport where this argument makes a bit of sense because it is on for like half a year and some tickets are dirt cheap. Once you get to the postseason conversation, it completely loses me. Especially if youāre paying for dodger tickets because that is as expensive as a football ticket sometimes

Getting out of Dodger Stadium does indeed suck but I would much rather hang out with friends in our seats or in the concourse waiting for people to clear out than miss part of the game. Unless we were losing by like 12 runs in July or something

Iām not able to go often, but when we make the trip we stay for at least an hour after the game looking through the gift shops and what not. By the time we leave, getting out of the parking lot isnāt so bad.

Who cares how someone spends their money. Leave early, miss traffic, team loses but you are home at a reasonable time. Leave late, hit traffic, team loses, home late and you are exhausted. People leaving early are great because they aren't in their cars causing more traffic.

I sat until the bitter end of a Yankee 11-3 loss in September once. My husband and daughter left when the score was 8-3 but I stayed because I needed to be in that building if there was a comeback. Only upside is that I got a sweet Don Mattingly bobble head.Ā

Regular season games make perfect sense to me for later games, I could leave in the 7th and be in bed at 10 or leave in the 9th and be home 2.5 hours later.

Rush hour traffic passed, took 10 minutes to get from the stadium to my car and only 30 minutes to Santa Ana (excluding a 20 minute wait for In n Out)
Cheaper and way faster leaving.

I was sitting at a bar in Sherman Oaks years ago as a Dodgers game went into extra innings. The guy next to me had BEEN AT THE GAME.
He'd apparently left a tied game, drove to Sherman Oaks, went into a bar & sat next to me before regulation ended

My dad is one of the most impatient people ever, so he would always make us leave any game 5-10 minutes early to beat traffic, no matter the score.
Probably because he would drive 1-2 hours to/from work every day in LA traffic for like 40 years, but still killed me to have to walk out on a game.
282
u/NottheArkhamKnight Houston Astros 3h ago
I'm actually not gonna throw stones in this instance. You see this happen with every team when they're losing big late in a game. Astros, Dodgers, Yankees, doesn't matter. At the risk of sounding like a selfish fairweather fan, I'll say this: For the general public, sports are ultimately about being entertained. If you are not being entertained, why would you stay and watch? Especially with how bad traffic can be and how expensive gas and everything is these days for the average person.Ā
24
u/LadyGrimSleeper Seattle Mariners 1h ago
Thatās exactly why Iām not leaving. I spent hella money and hours of my time getting to this game (shout out public transit!). Iām not leaving till they kick me out and even then Iām messing around till the trains empty out a bit.

And this is why I hate the mentality āif you didnāt like us when we were the worst team in the league, you donāt get to celebrate when weāre successful.ā
Life is too short to waste hours of your day watching a shitty team when the owners donāt even care about the product on the field. If anything, that blind loyalty and viewership just rewards mediocrity.

There are tons of ballparks that are in massive parking lots, Miller, the Trop, the Colliseum, Kauffman, Angel Stadium.
9
u/MChammershammer Los Angeles Dodgers 2h ago
Yeah but those probably have much better traffic situations in and out of the parking lot. Angel stadium for instance is much easier to exit than dodgers stadium.
2
u/LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe Chicago Cubs ⢠Lou Gehrig 2h ago
The Trop, as every rays fan told me yesterday, is not. Miller and the Colliseum I can tell you are horrendous for traffic yet (most) of their fans will stay through the final out.

I remember when I was a kid, maybe 9 or 10 years old, my family and I went to a game at miller park and the brewers were losing by a couple of runs late in the game, maybe the 7th inning or so, and they decided to leave. Not 15 minutes later we hear on the radio leaving the stadium Prince Fielder hit a tank right to where we were sitting and the Brewers ended up coming back to win the game. Ever since that moment I have maintained that if I go to a game in person, I will not leave until the 27th out

Iām going to speak solely on my own experience because I understand not everyone has the same set up as here in phoenix.
Because our stadium is downtown, thereās a lot of parking garages available. I pay $20ish bucks to park in a safe spot, walk 2 blocks over and in 9 minutes Iām at the game. I donāt mind staying in a blowout because Iām not gonna hit traffic. I could also stay downtown for a drink/bite because thereās like 6ish restaurants/bars within striking distance of Chase field. If i avoid east/south of the stadium Iāve never hit traffic.
If I remember correctly, Dodgers stadium literally has nothing but parking outside of it, thatās it. You have to park there, and you have to deal with that shit. Even if you got a ride there you have to deal with it. I would not want to deal with that, so yeah if itās a blowout and iām sad iām leaving.

Why would you ever leave a baseball game early? In other sports like basketball or football I get it because thereās a time limit but in baseball thereās always statistically a chance that you could come back and win no matter the deficit.
