If this was Cincinnati, people would just take off work. Day games are called the businessmen special. Then again, if we ever make it back to the WS….

u/Olepat Cincinnati Reds 3h ago

GAPB would be filled no matter day of the week or start time

u/KimHaSeongsBurner San Diego Padres 2h ago

The shots of sparse attendance looks even worse when you factor in how cheap tickets are, too.

I get the argument of Dodgers fans not showing up for Wildcard (c.f. 2025 playoffs) or the NLDS because of the fact that they’re waiting for the NLCS or WS, or because of the heat or whatever, but these shots combined with the ticket prices dropping isn’t exactly a great look.

Yea, but no offense, that would be like if Slovenia took a day off for a soccer game. It wouldn't put much of a dent in the European economy. And I say that as someone from a smaller city. Mine would be Luxembourg minus the high finance...

In fucking LA especially. That sort of traffic would drive a man to insanity.

2

u/ForensicPathology 3h ago

Funny how all the fans are rushing to defend the Dodger traffic when they were mocking the Rays "bridge" just yesterday.

13

u/Medical-Tank-960 Chicago White Sox 3h ago

Unfortunately a 6 or 7pm pst start is way too late for most of the country.

4

u/CapitanRonRico Boston Red Sox 3h ago

Home team should get priority when choosing the time.

1

u/Medical-Tank-960 Chicago White Sox 3h ago

It’s a business and no network is going to drop the big bucks to have post season games that start when it’s bedtime for the majority of the country.

1

u/Lord_Sean_G San Francisco Giants 3h ago

Maybe if this was a Mariners or Dbacks game. I'd wager though that there are more people tuning in from socal than the East Coast. Baseball is becoming kind of niche.

2

u/Medical-Tank-960 Chicago White Sox 3h ago

Combined the Eastern and Central time zones hold around 80% of the U.S. population or 250 million people. Trust me they’ve done the math and they don’t want to box these people out by having a late start.

0

u/CapitanRonRico Boston Red Sox 3h ago

You sure? A ton of games in the last round started super early. But those games weren't on networks.

1

u/Medical-Tank-960 Chicago White Sox 3h ago

I mean the earliest start was like what 3 central 4 eastern? That’s right around when the work day is ending. People are also at least up at that time compared to later start times when they’re asleep.

0

u/CapitanRonRico Boston Red Sox 3h ago

I need your workday.

Braves/Dodgers played at 1PM in Game 1. I don't think TV is that concerned with games out of prime time.

1

u/Medical-Tank-960 Chicago White Sox 3h ago

Oh trust me I was still working, I just pulled the Sox game up and kept up with it while I worked lol.

0

u/PalaceJoey Los Angeles Dodgers 3h ago

Last year I was in the east coast for work watching till 1am lol. It sucked

4 PM pacific time tomorrow. Will be packed

3

u/deptofnahmsayns Boston Red Sox 3h ago

Very noble of the Angels to refuse to play postseason baseball so their fans aren’t forced to sit in rush hour traffic

-22

u/semigator Tampa Bay Rays 3h ago

Rays at Cleveland at 1:00 tomorrow. We’ll see how many get out of work

9

u/COV3RTSM Toronto Blue Jays 3h ago

You think people in Cleveland have jobs?

1

u/semigator Tampa Bay Rays 3h ago

Yeah the factory probably isn’t hiring

4

u/YP_Schwartzy Milwaukee Brewers 3h ago

How fucking embarrassing!

Rays fans are actually kind of pathetic. You guys have had some of the worst attendance for like decades and try to take potshots at LA? Yikes.

u/Fredbear_ Tampa Bay Rays • Canada 3h ago

I can't believe people are taking this seriously, but then again it is Reddit

When it comes to shitting on a small market team, rivals unite

4

u/ManufacturerMental72 Los Angeles Dodgers 3h ago

I was defending the rays fans in a thread last night. Just because it’s a smaller fanbase doesn’t mean it’s a bad fanbase.

0

u/dullchristmas Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago

I appreciate that, thanks

-3

only Giants fans can talk shit

3

u/Various-Idea5953 3h ago

People were saying they never saw bad attendance at the alcs like the rays and this is how dodger stadium looks lol never saw it but it happened the day after

0

u/jedstrailerpark San Francisco Giants • Sickos 3h ago

Brother that was an 8pm local time start. Not 5pm local time when everyone’s getting off work. It is obviously a very different situation.

5

u/MediocreHomework7092 Kansas City Royals 3h ago

Especially when this game is on a weekday starting at 5pm. LA traffic to get to a game is insane. Rays have always used the excuse of their highway setup for empty games. Once they are actually in Tampa they have no excuse for low attendance

1

u/ul49 Atlanta Braves 3h ago edited 3h ago

6:30 now and they just showed a couple entire sections that look nearly empty

0

u/eb12se4nt-z13ow-97g0 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago

Rays have no excuse. LA can have excuse.

5

u/MediocreHomework7092 Kansas City Royals 3h ago

When for 40 years the joke is fans dont get in until the 3rd inning and leave in the 7th for traffic its pretty much a standard of attendance. I'm rooting for the Rays to win but you guys cant pull this attendance crap on other teams when we've seen your stadium empty dozens of times for playoff games.

2

u/eb12se4nt-z13ow-97g0 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago

Why not? I thought you guys don't have attendance issues. We get compared to LA traffic all the time. Looks like it got to them too.

0

u/MediocreHomework7092 Kansas City Royals 3h ago

Who's you guys? I am a Giants and Royals fan. I hate that I have to defend the dodgers for attendance. I lived in California and have driven through that traffic. Not a single person in the world has ever compared st Pete traffic to LA traffic, you have to be delusional to think that

1

u/eb12se4nt-z13ow-97g0 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago

How come they didn't come tonight?

0

u/MediocreHomework7092 Kansas City Royals 3h ago

You're obviously not watching becuase its packed right now

1

they're not showing 3rd level lol

1

They showed it when coming back from commercials

A packed house is the last thing I expected from that post title, the sunset framing the skyline makes it look like a damn movie scene

The Rays fan taking shots while half the seats in St Pete are empty every night is something else, at least pick a fight you can win

2

u/ForensicPathology 3h ago

The Rays fan taking shots while half the seats in St Pete are empty every night is something else, at least pick a fight you can win

Your complaint makes no sense.  That's literally the reason this post exists.

0

u/ForensicPathology 3h ago

Did you miss all the posts the past 24 hours?  The "potshots" aren't coming from nowhere.

-13

u/dullchristmas Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago edited 3h ago

We have been punched down on for our whole existence lol. Bad stadium, bad location, bad payroll, owner that doesn’t want to cooperate with the city to get a new stadium. And we come on Reddit and see a hundred comments around ‘Pathetic franchise, doesn’t deserve a team.’ I get what you’re saying but can’t you see why fans of a fanbase that get those attacks would respond in such a way?

Edit: I gotta head out. I’ll see you guys tomorrow in the 1 PM Cleveland attendance pic thread to fight some more

3

u/jedstrailerpark San Francisco Giants • Sickos 3h ago

Dang maybe if you guys showed up we wouldn’t make fun of you for not showing up. Crazy concept right?

2

u/dullchristmas Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago

I did show up. That’s kind of what I’m trying to get at with the earlier comment lol. We love this team but it sucks to be called a pathetic franchise over and over again. That’s why people are upset. I think any fanbase would react in a similar way

1

u/nooookay Boston Red Sox • Boston Hunters 3h ago

You guys just need to take the “thank god for Mississippi” mentality southern states have and start deflecting to how much worse the A’s are.

1

u/dullchristmas Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago

Haha no way, we gotta support those fans. I’ll sit here and fight with anyone that wants to slander my team

3

u/bstzabeast Toronto Blue Jays 3h ago

Stop supporting them until they sell

8

u/ForensicPathology 3h ago

"Rays fans are a terrible fanbase, they don't show up at games. They should stop showing up to games"

2

u/dullchristmas Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago

When you really break it down, this is the logic most people here have been using on here with respect to attendance

4

u/Lord_Sean_G San Francisco Giants 3h ago

Or if not that, at least show up for the frickin Alcs?

2

u/dullchristmas Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago

How do you think that comment sounds to Rays fans that went to the ALCS? Don’t you think Rays fans on /r/baseball are significantly more likely to have gone?

-1

u/Lord_Sean_G San Francisco Giants 3h ago

I mean, if you went, I feel for you, but the fanbase as a whole, and the City/Metro area deserve all of the criticism that has been coming. Not filling up a stadium for an Alcs is a black mark.

6

u/dullchristmas Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago

Haha what? you want less people to support until more people support?

2

u/Jakk55 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3h ago

The Rays were sold over a year ago. r/baseball ignorance on full display here.

-5

u/deptofnahmsayns Boston Red Sox 3h ago edited 3h ago

They’ll move before they sell.

Apparently they did sell.

6

u/penguinopph Chicago Cubs • RCH-Pinguins 3h ago

Stu Sternberg sold last year. The new owner immediately got a stadium deal in place.

1

u/deptofnahmsayns Boston Red Sox 3h ago

That would probably help attendance if they aren’t in St Pete anymore

0

u/semigator Tampa Bay Rays 3h ago

They don’t like that we succeed with one arm behind our back. Got a team budget for like 2 or 3 of their players. Jealousy is a stinky cologne.

Man. Traffic time at THAT hour. Into THAT stadium. Horrible lol

12

u/bad_motivator Toronto Blue Jays 3h ago

Everybody's blaming traffic but somehow only people with bad seats seemed to have a problem with it

3

u/MsandMets Seattle Mariners 3h ago

Good seats helicopter in

6

u/newbike07 3h ago

Work schedule flexibility tends to increase as one gets wealthier and older.

So it's not surprising that more people sitting in the more expensive seats could get to the stadium on time.

2

u/bad_motivator Toronto Blue Jays 2h ago

You guys will say anything to avoid admitting it's not sold out. Guess the traffic was so bad those people just decided to go hone cuz they still ain't there

2

u/ul49 Atlanta Braves 3h ago

Also there are still sections the look almost completely empty

5

u/abel_figgy 3h ago

Me when I’m dumb and don’t know what I’m talking about

2

u/bad_motivator Toronto Blue Jays 3h ago

Explain to me how most of the empty seats are upper deck, down the lines. Are you telling me only those people had bad traffic?

2

u/ImaginaryFriends_ Tampa Bay Rays 2h ago

That’s too big brained for most of these big market bandwagon fans from Gary, Indiana to consider

0

u/fauxbigbro Arizona Diamondbacks • Seattle Mariners 3h ago

Dude, I'm a lifelong Dodgers hater and this isn't gonna help you. The only way to shut them up is with the scoreboard, so you gotta just flip them off and win. Acting like this just let's them know that their shitty behavior is getting to you and they'll do it more.

2

u/semigator Tampa Bay Rays 2h ago

It’s a joke. All baseball has been against the Rays since they were created. No budget, but keep winning. We get to go to as many games as we want. Suddenly they charge $300 for the $40 seats and don’t know why it’s not at capacity.

0

u/fauxbigbro Arizona Diamondbacks • Seattle Mariners 2h ago

Yeah, I wouldn't know what it's like to have someone shit talk your team incessantly because they only started to exist in the late 90s. The "all MLB hates us" martyr complex will absolutely get them on your side.
