I definitely did not think this reclamation project with Peralta would work nearly this well

The New York Mets need to be relegated. This man is a star.

Crazy Drew and Freddy were both Brewers players.

48

u/ELITE_JordanLove 1d ago

I saw a dude at game one on Sunday in a Brewers Rasmussen jersey. Wild pull. That, Arcia and an Eric Thames were probably my favorites that I saw.

I saw a Yuniesky Betancourt jersey a few years ago and I was like what now

Pretty sure Yuni B is still in jail for committing insurance fraud

Come again? I loved him on the mariners. Him and Jose Lopez, name a more iconic double play duo

you still down for what pete did?

18

u/inbigtreble30 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

No I mean they missed the playoffs two years running despite spending more money than God and also temporarily broke one of my favorite players

-11

u/BlueCoBot New York Mets 1d ago

Don’t think it’s temporary

10

You’re saying Freddy is still broken?? Or did you think they were talking about Devin Williams

5

Freddy peralta is just fine. The expected stats aren’t great by any means. Anyone that signs him long term for decent money will regret it

What a dumb sentiment. "You should just ride the wave of popularity!"

How about having some conviction in the things you believe and having the balls (not really) to go against the grain and heaven forbid be downvoted on reddit because it's not in vogue given the events of the day. If all you're ever willing to do is to say what you believe after the fact when the results are in you're a coward. A coward in the face of reddit downvotes, which is comfortably the most cowardly type of coward

1

u/DependentRide1357 1d ago

Sure, but I could say the same thing about the comment that guy responded to

0

u/BlueCoBot New York Mets 16h ago

I meant Williams. How am I supposed to know your favorite players. Who gives a toss about “bad time to make that comment” ffs

3

u/jimihenderson New York Mets 1d ago

the Mets have embarrassed themselves in many ways in the past two years, but nothing about a veteran pitcher coming here from a small market, sucking ass, leaving to a different small market and going back to being good should reflect poorly on them. the Mets had plenty of pitchers come into the organization both through free agency and their farm and pitch extremely well throughout the year. Peralta just couldn't handle pitching in NY, he isn't the first and he won't be the last. it's easy to say some stupid shit as a fan of a small market team but every NY fan can attest to the fact that this is just something you have to suck up happening every once in a while. the bigger criticisms towards the Mets should be similar to "if that's a roadblock, how could you be so foolish to allow players who have proven they can perform as Mets like Alonso and Weaver to fuck off for basically nothing or very little?"

Freddy is a veteran, his lack of performance here was on him.

3

u/Theraspberryknight Tampa Bay Devil Rays • Cincinnati Reds 11h ago

The issue is players leaving the Mets and suddenly doing a lot better is a trend.

It's okay to admit that "The Pressure." is just code word that your coaching sucks.

2

u/Dunder-MifflinPaper New York Yankees 11h ago

I thought it was something you put in tires?

1

u/Theraspberryknight Tampa Bay Devil Rays • Cincinnati Reds 11h ago

Alright this made me laugh.

1

u/jimihenderson New York Mets 10h ago

Right like Weaver and Brazoban and Raley did this year. Oh wait, just about every other pitcher we traded seemed to be just about the exact same guy when they left or far worse. But I guess that would've taken like... five seconds to google, so I can't blame you for not being willing to invest that type of research into a simple reddit dispute

6

u/Stang1776 Tampa Bay Rays 15h ago

Interesting way to say that the Rays pitching coaches have done a phenomenal job since he came. Peralta pitched just like he did when he got here in his 4 starts.

Look at his game log because something clicked after that Baltimore series. I dont care what kind of veteran pitcher you are. You dont make that drastic of a change without some proper coaching.

Just my thoughts.

0

u/Greatness46 New York Mets 12h ago

It’s very simple, he couldn’t handle the pressure of New York.

2

u/HB3187 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 10h ago

Lol as opposed fo the pressure of idk....say the ALCS down 1 game to 0 ?

1

u/Stang1776 Tampa Bay Rays 12h ago

Whatever you say, man. Your whole team needs to be dealt then due to "the pressure."

Thanks for the Ace.

6

u/draw2discard2 23h ago

It really didn't help him that the Mets defense is abysmal. It seems like he's kind of an emotional guy and having to get five outs didn't help his focus.

1

u/jimihenderson New York Mets 10h ago

You didn't watch Mets games so why even chime in? He was not a good Met, period. It happens. Maybe he will be an amazing Ray. They don't have to be intertwined. He sucked, that's that. He sucked on opening day, was mediocre for a stretch, then became borderline unpitchable for a while. That's sports sometimes. That's on him, he's a veteran.

1

u/draw2discard2 9h ago

Sorry, Sport, but how tf do you know that I didn't watch Mets games? Apart from the fact that I watch most of Freddy's starts for fantasy baseball reasons, if there isn't a game I care about on at a particular time Mets are one of the teams I will watch because the broadcast team is good. The Mets were butchers behind him, and with guys out of position or without positions--despite not necessarily hitting either--it was a total shit show. Now, of course, there might be pitchers who react better to there being a comically horrible shit show behind him, but you can't minimize the fact that pitching for a team that was a not funny joke on defense is a challenge.

-1

u/No_Clue4405 Cleveland Guardians 1d ago

Somehow, they make the Rockies and Marlins look less embarrassing. At least they don’t wave the band around and get crushed

0

u/8each8oys New York Mets 15h ago

He just couldn't handle New York

4

u/Remarkable_Clock_736 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I knew it instantly. I wanted him back in MKE 😭

5

u/BallMeBlazer22 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 1d ago

Yeah I was worried with his first few starts after getting acquired, and then even on his heater the advanced stats indicated he was getting lucky, but glad to see I was wrong about that and he's just on one right now.

-13

u/Queasy_Salad7444 New York Mets 1d ago

he just has to stay in teams that fans don’t eat you alive, he isn’t strong enough mentally for big market teams

31

u/FranklinHippo Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Yeah having a supportive fan base probably helps for lots of players.

-22

u/Queasy_Salad7444 New York Mets 1d ago

some players can’t handle it, it’s more pressure

26

u/clownparade Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

I’m sorry but you cannot tell me it’s more pressure to play on a random July Thursday afternoon in New York than it is in the ALCS with the entire country watching

20

u/cassinonorth Tampa Bay Rays 1d ago

We completely changed his approach and eliminated his wind up.

"He just can't handle new York bro".

7

u/samwisegamgee St. Louis Cardinals • Chicago White Sox 1d ago

Trevor Plouffe mentioned this on Talkin’ Baseball, how when you get to the Rays, they tell you what you do well and basically tell you that’s going to be your whole thing on the team.

I can see how that worked for Freddy. “Hey man, that change up? Throw that more, k?”

9

u/0pyrophosphate0 Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Which, by coincidence, is also what the Brewers do. He did well with the Brewers, and now he's doing well with the Rays. I'm assuming the Mets were trying to fuck with a good thing that he already had.

2

u/samwisegamgee St. Louis Cardinals • Chicago White Sox 1d ago

That is absolutely not surprising!

Feels like Brewers/Rays have some advanced analytics that the Mets are definitely lacking, lol

2

u/Im_Anemic_Royalty Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Considering how much (or more accurately: how little) the Mets want to pay the people in their analytics department: can’t say that I’m surprised.

5

u/4leafplover Milwaukee Brewers 1d ago

Let the Mets fan have their copium.

2

u/draw2discard2 23h ago

On the other hand, I can tell you that its a lot more pressure to pitch with the New York Mets defense behind you than the Brewers or the Rays.

25

u/mrpeck123 New York Mets 1d ago

I’m so sick of hearing this

7

u/liftandrun155 New York Mets 1d ago

8

1

u/LIVESTRONGG Tampa Bay Devil Rays 1d ago

Ah, fair.

1

u/draw2discard2 23h ago

Which is why historically he has wilted under the pressure of even playing against the Mighty Mets. Look at his splits!

1

u/LIVESTRONGG Tampa Bay Devil Rays 1d ago

Again, Mets coaching staff is piss poor. It’s their fault.

33

u/ihatemcconaughey Cleveland Guardians 1d ago

Positive sure, but huge missed opportunity .

21

u/fender123 Cleveland Guardians 1d ago

We didn’t hit tonight, stranded runners, we beat ourselves tonight.

Silver lining: they aren’t hitting .

4

u/_realLazyBones Cleveland Guardians 1d ago

Also, Hedges. His non-challenge basically led to a series of unfortunate events.

If Hedges challenges that pitch to Caminero in the fourth, it's out number one. Next groundout is just a throw to 1B, out number two. Strikeout, out number three... inning over & no damage done.

2

u/sginsc Cleveland Guardians 6h ago

Well, the first issue was the umpire didnt call a definite strike, a strike. Then we pick up with Hedges needing to challenge.

2

u/_realLazyBones Cleveland Guardians 6h ago

Yes. First & foremost: fuck the home plate umpire.

1

u/fender123 Cleveland Guardians 1d ago

I’m not going to put it on one thing like that.

I was annoyed by that, but we stranded way too many tonight.

Also had nothing to do with our defense.

Day off, back to Cleveland.

Let’s bury them at home.

8

u/BrazilianRider Tampa Bay Rays 1d ago

… The Rays had more hits tonight?

-4

u/fender123 Cleveland Guardians 1d ago

Not for runs.

We exploded last game, you guys stayed the same.

I’m not worried.

Did dig your uniforms tonight! Throwbacks are also clutch.

7

u/BrazilianRider Tampa Bay Rays 17h ago

The run difference is 8-6 over two games? And the series is tied 1-1… not a big difference…

0

u/Jepordee Cleveland Guardians 15h ago

2

u/Notwit3barrelahecant 14h ago

41-42 Cleveland is at home this year.

1

u/sginsc Cleveland Guardians 6h ago

stats can tell you anything. It's a different first half team than last, Kwan was slumping most of the year and Jose missed a bunch of home games when he was hurt.

The Jake is unbelievable for atmosphere.

1

u/Notwit3barrelahecant 6h ago

Kwan is a great player. I agree that record is a meaningless stat once you’re in the playoffs. Go Rays

1

u/sginsc Cleveland Guardians 6h ago

Yeah, he has been equally awesome in the second half as he was terrible in the first. Hopefully he gets even hotter.
Go Guards.

I'm a Bayern Munich fan, they won the 2019-2020 champions league in the most dominant fashion ever seen (still the only team in the history of the 70+ year old competition to win every game), and it gets discredited because of "the bubble."

It's a tired narrative and was only retroactively applied, no one at the time said it.
