Why does anyone outside of New York not hate the Yankees as much?

Hey I’m in New York and doing my part to hate the Yankees from inside

Wow, that is dedication. To hate the Yankees so much you move to NY to destroy them from the inside. /S

People in New York hates the Yankees too. Almost half the metro area hates them!

Mets do not make up half the metro area. I don’t think you all even get half of Long Island.

“Almost”

And we absolutely have a lot of fans in Long Island and North Jersey. No as much had the Yankees fans but I see Mets merch being worn all the damn time

Mets aren’t the Clippers or Nets. They have a ton of fans in the metro area. I don’t know the exact percentage, but it’s definitely closer to 50% than the other NY “second teams”.

Mets are 100% the nets and clippers of MLB

Keep dreaming

So you really think to yourself that the Mets, 2 time world champion, about 60 years younger than the Yankees, less successful in every aspect, would be equivalent to the Lakers and Knicks historically?

No, that’s not at all what I’m saying. I’m saying that the Nets and Clippers barely have any fans compared to the Knicks and Lakers. The Mets have a large and passionate fan base.

My Yankees hate is somewhat diminished since 2010, just because the 2010 ALCS is my #2 sports memory of all time (I was there for Game 6 and the absolute bedlam when A-Rod struck out to send the Rangers to the World Series). Not gone, because they're still the Yankees, but I don't hold the playoffs in the '90's against them so much anymore.

(if anyone is curious, #1 is obviously the 2023 World Series. #3 is the 2023 ALCS, which is only behind the 2010 ALCS because I was *there* in 2010 and I had to watch 2023 on TV).

It's the same reason that Manchester United has so many fans outside of Manchester and the Lakers have so many fans outside of LA. Big market teams with a history of success attract otherwise unaligned fans. Plus celebrities wear their gear so people get to know the logos.

Browse the Yankees subreddit for 5 minutes. I know all fanbases have good and bad fans, but the entitlement and generally attitude there is horrendous

What do you want Yankee fans to say? "Hooray, what a hard-fought season guys! We'll get 'em next time!"?

1

u/lozengeode 6d ago

I’m talking in general, not just right now. Thankfully I haven’t been on the Yankees subreddit in a while

Let me know if you ever find a fan base of a team as historically successful as the Yankees that isn't insufferable.
