He's not even that bad as a manager but something has to change, theres got to be some culture problem that creates the exact same summer collapse that costs us the division and home field advantage every year.

I think most fan bases would be very pleased if Boone was their manager and was putting out the results he does with the Yankees. Yankees fans talk about wanting more though, and I honestly think that's valid. They have a historic franchise with a history of winning it all and they have a franchise history of doing what they need to do ($$$) to make it happen. So when the team continues to fail despite continuing to pump that much money into, it's a failure when they don't win it all. It's a unique POV compared to pretty much any other team's fan base, but doesn't make it wrong.

Personally the most frustrating part is the amount of waste in this team. Over 162 the Yankees still win a lot but it’s not as much as they should. They constantly give away games. It really shows when the bats go cold or injuries happen. When the quality of the play becomes important the Yankees lose but it doesn’t seem to be addressed. They don’t know how to win a tough game. For the last 8 years they brute-force their way through the regular season and lesser teams in the playoffs. Inevitably, they play a team that is close enough or more talented that plays cleaner baseball and they get mopped. Pair that with some truly baffling personnel choices, horrible roster construction, and an apparent lack of accountability, and it’s no surprise this plays out year after year.

Yeah, hes a good manager hes not a bone head. I think the team has just gotten complacent. They have the money and roster to contend every year. Im not expecting a dynasty, but they should be able to make it out of the divisional round more than once a decade and win a chip in under 17 years.

but they should be able to make it out of the divisional round more than once a decade

They do. In the last ten years, they've cleared the divisional round four times (2017, 2019, 2022, 2024). The main problem is that they lost to the Astros three of those times.

The upsetting part is that it's been the same formula for years with no changes to try to improve. No admission of mistakes or errors from Boone either, just a "We'll get em next year" type slogan.

I wouldn't be mad if the Yankees made it to the World Series and then went out after giving it their all (Like the Blue Jays last year).

They barely squeak by into the postseason just to lose in embarrassing fashion with dumb coaching mistakes or fumbling basic fundamentals.

This is a far cry from the old team. Boone has to go.

Anyone else want him? Anyone?

This is really starting to sound like a Mike Tomlin situation.

Wonder if Boone has a secret Minecraft city built up too.

Dodgers had that same issue for years, and I think you’re right that there’s a culture/group-think problem that gets a life of its own.

He’s like John Harbaugh post-Lamar.

LMAO. He's a mediocre manager. He's a great friend to his players and an even better yes man to the front office. But, he sucks at his job. He has a history of players deteriorating under his strength and conditioning staff. I'm not going to get into the defensive and base running atrocities. Players somehow forget those when they spend time with the Yankees. Their "winning seasons" are lipstick on a rotting carcass.

Any sane fan would (or should,) admit that they have no idea where a GM's responsibility ends and where a manager's responsibility begins. I've no idea whether the current Yankees culture could be blamed on Boone, Cashman, or both.

I do know that there's a serious problem with Yankees culture right now. I can't remember a team that had such a blatant disdain for its own fanbase. For all of Boone's tenure, their message has been clear: "If you think there's a problem with our defense, baserunning, or inconsistent offensive approach, that's just because you don't know anything."

We've had winning seasons for my entire life. We've won at least 90 games 8 out of the past 10 years (including 2020.) We've made it to the ALCS 4 times in that duration, and the World Series once. On paper, *most* teams would love to have that resume. But in that same time frame, we've lost for the same reasons over and over, with a manager who actively scoffs at the idea that anything needs to change. From not pursuing Harper because it was "too obvious," to ending Anthony Rizzo's career because they didn't take his brain injury seriously, to having the Dodgers spend an entire offseason mocking us, this team is frustrating because proving people wrong is more important than winning. Their heels are dug in, and to them, admitting they need to change direction is the same thing as losing.

If there is a 2027 season, I am certain that we will win 92-96 games, have excellent pitching, have a few All-Stars, look terrible in July, have the same lack of focus and disregard for the details, finish strong in September, and then lose to the first non AL Central team we play in the postseason. And we'll be told the playoffs are just a crapshoot, there's nothing else they could've done

Those last 2 paragraphs are beautifully written and mirror my exact feelings. The Yankees have never been bad my entire life, but ive only been alive for One World Series and that was before I was old enough to truly love the game

He is horrendous as a manager sir what

8

u/FireRedJP New York Yankees 6d ago

He defends our guys to a fault but if youve actually watched a bad manager make moves you'll see boone is one of the better managers out there. That being said he does need to be fired

He’s legitimately awful. The team is undisciplined, terrible in the field. He makes up lineups that are inexplicably bad. Grisham as leadoff in this game is indefensible. No lineup change after being no hit in game 1. Multiple prime opportunities to pinch run late in game 3 when desperate for RISP (single/error by Goldy). the team has no ability to play small ball in the playoffs when runs are at a premium. Never moves runners over. Do you remember a single bunt in the postseason? Go look at the regular season record in extras—it’s awful because he won’t bunt the free guy over and the other team will. Relies on a homerun or K offense to produce against high leverage relievers instead.

He’s a players coach. He wants to be liked by the guys so he doesn’t preach boring fundamentals and he starts people like Grisham and jazz who are absolutely useless in October.

He’s terrible and should have been fired 5+ years ago.

Hmm. I see some qualities in there that the Ms desire but Boone would be too spendy for our owners.

We’ll give him to you for free

Him and Cashman are the worst thing to happen to our team in 40+ years.

u/LTR_TLR 6d ago

They ran back almost the exact same team from last year. It won’t work next year either.

He's not even that bad as a manager

Agree to disagree.

u/UnicornMaster27 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 6d ago

He is tho.

He did absolutely nothing to platoon against our Lefty relievers with a bench full of righties.

Your entire offense came from a guy that he let play nearly 100 games at DH, despite having 2 insanely injury prone power hitters who would much better serve as DH.

His 1 big move was moving Grisham to leadoff and he finished the series 0-for-11 with 5 K’s

There’s a bunch more to say including how he disciplines the players without actually doing anything and his job is safe because of the lockout.

He managed an awful series i will concede that. but for the 162, he is absolutely a decent manager and am upgrade for a significant amount of teams
