Hot take, team needed to lose a game to really wake up and remind us what's at stake. If we won in 3, it would have been sweet. But the Padres are a great team and they gave us all we could handle until game 4 where the team locked in and really looked "different"
18
u/I_Like_To_Hyuck Milwaukee Brewers 7d ago
I don’t know if I agree, but I will say closing it out on the road this year makes me feel better than needing G5 to close it out like we did against the Cubs
5
u/MilwaukeeMan420 Milwaukee Brewers 7d ago
Look at the bounce back from Mitchell and Bauers. Even Turang had some nice swings. I think if we eek out last night the growth isn't there. But what do I know I am a dumb idiot.

Don't understand this take. It's a harmless, silly long-running joke now, and Murph loves that sort of thing. Plus, it's just a fun way to keep the spirit of Ueck alive for the team in these important moments.

That was a fantastic series. Entertaining from the first pitch to the last.
The Padres just kind of ran out of pitchers, and I don't blame their manager at all. He made the moves he had to make to try to keep the games close and give his team a chance in every game. He did a great job. he really did from my perspective.

u/Hopeful-Design6115 San Diego Padres 7d ago
Yeah I know people are going to be upset at stammen because we lost and hyper analyze his choices but at the end of the day the rookie manager gave his team with 1.5 starters and an offense that disappeared a chance to win this series.
6
u/PeacefulPeople19 Milwaukee Brewers 7d ago
Everyone that had no horse in that race was completely entertained by the effort both teams gave. That series was awesome and the Padres have nothing to hang their heads about. They didn't bow out with a whimper, they fought until the last out. i don't know what else you can ask for.

The Brewers are VERY good team. No easy outs in the entire lineup. They don’t chase outside the zone. Bullpen is nasty. Starters are nasty. This is not the same Brewers team that the Dodgers swept last year. This should be a really good NLCS.
Ultimately never thought this Padres team had enough starting pitching to go the distance this year. Laureano getting injured and replacing him with a myriad of platooned, formerly DFA’d players, and an over reliance on the bullpen ultimately cost them.
This 2026 Padres team actually exceeded my expectations by a lot. Most projections had them winning maybe 82 games, and missing the playoffs. The fact they went toe to toe with one of the best teams in baseball on the biggest stage, is a testament to the players.
Let’s just hope that the new owners are actually willing to spend, and bring in some top end starting pitchers. If we even get a season next year.

I can look at this season as an overall positive season. Didn’t even think this would be a playoff team going in.
Who knows if there will be baseball next year but at least Musgrove is seemingly back from the dead. Gotta resign king. Hopeful that our core of Tatis/Merill/Salas/Miller can continue to develop/improve since Manny is getting up there.
But this team has to figure out how to hit good pitching in the playoffs. 3 years in a row of just crumbling against good pitching.

u/bass_voyeur San Diego Padres 7d ago
Agreed. We need to figure out how to get a lineup that's more than 4-5 batters deep at any given time - Laureano would have helped.
I am baffled that Austin Hays got meaningful at bats, but that's where we were apparently.
We had chances, but just didn't convert. Brewers are an excellent team.
But I loved that Campusano and Salas are on the scene at the Catcher spot. Loved to see Musgrove back. Loved to see the hitters adjust and bounce back during the season.
The team was an absolute joy after the All-Star break.
I think Stammen did a fine job at manager, but probably learned some lessons in the playoffs. Maybe tried to overly manage a bit too much with his substitutions and pitching changes, but seemed like some injuries were happening behind the scenes.

u/silentsandwich San Diego Padres 7d ago

Brewers pitchers really rose to the occasion for the whole series. And honestly feels like they could have scored a few more each game with so many hard hit balls up and down the order, and men left on base, and obviously great Padres pitching as well. Chourio bonafide playoff beast.

If I have to see the Padres go down it stings less when it's against a fellow 0 rings franchise. Hoping the Brewers finally get one.

13 runs was the total margin of victory for the 8 games in the NLDS this year. So close yet so far away for Braves and Padres fans.

What a series and a hell of a team SD has. I’m sure I aged an extra 20 years because of them. So much excitement and entertaining series
