Players Only Full Sequence of umpire Doug Eddings on a power trip

  1. Demanded that pitcher Hancel Rincon (in his MLB debut) straighten his hat since no one will wear a hat like that on "his field".

  2. Cardinals manager Oli Marmol went to talk to Eddings about the hat incident during a pitching change, Eddings gave the Cardinals a pitch clock violation and ejected Marmol.

  3. A couple batters later, with the Cardinals out of challenges, Eddings made a terrible call on a play at the plate to gift the Rockies the lead.

He seems a little racist. Nobody complains when Sonny Grey wears his hat off to the side.

Pedro Strop did it his entire time with the Cubs including the 2016 World Series win year, with zero problems.

Satchel Paige’s Hall of Fame plaque shows him with his hat cocked.

The cocked hat was part of the Fernando Rodney Experience™.

MLB featured Dontrelle Willis big time back in the day.

God I had such a love hate relationship with him. Loved everything except having to face him.

Honestly it was a complicated relationship when he was on the Mariners too. Good for the cardiologists in town.

He almost always worked his way out of jams, but clean innings felt very rare.

Not according to my dad. eye roll

It was a personal triumph of mine when I finally got him to admit in, like, 2019 that Strop was good and the only reason he didn’t like him was because of the hat.

I’ll admit I’m the old school bent brim cocked back guy…but that doesn’t mean I get to decide it for someone else.

Guess that’s why I wouldn’t make a good umpire, eh?

Dontrelle Willis did his whole career.

I would’ve loved for him to try to tell CC Sabathia to fix his hat when he was still active. Dude would’ve landed in the outfield like a lawn dart.

Yeah, it's not as if baseball has a rich tradition of white guys wearing their hats like fucking dorks. Doug needs to go look at pictures of Babe Ruth.

Yeah, just like Jesus, but he wasn't perceived as a POC by baseball and the general public.

Tbf in baseball Jesus can refer to like 2 dozen guys

He does wear number 88 on his sleeve…

I'm done giving anyone that's not a wide receiver the benefit of the doubt for wearing 88 in this day and age.

1

u/sonic_dick Sep 06 '26

I havent seen a WR pick a number in the 80s in a decade.

The optics feel racist, I agree. Crazy if MLB doesn’t address it.
