[u/PBandJ0024]

instant classic game 5

defense masterclass from both teams, batting averages plunging everywhere, atrocious RLSP numbers by both teams

loved it

[u/[deleted] → u/PBandJ0024]

Storybook ending. Baseball rules.

[u/3elieveIt → u/PBandJ0024]

Im crying

[u/NevermoreSEA → u/3elieveIt]

I'm mostly just in disbelief right now.

[u/Stracktheorcmage → u/NevermoreSEA]

I am emotionally spent

[u/ceviche-hot-pockets → u/Stracktheorcmage]

Straight to bed lol

[u/lyghtning_blu → u/ceviche-hot-pockets]

Then straight to reddit for validation before closing my eyes

[u/JayBuhnersBarber → u/NevermoreSEA]

Genuinely beside myself. Genuinely.

[u/trevorbrownfog → u/PBandJ0024]

I'm crying. I haven't seen by Ms go this far since I was a kid.

[u/unfortunatebastard → u/PBandJ0024]

My liver will remind me of this game 20 years from now

[u/suzukigun4life]

Sending your team to their first ALCS in 24 years, via walkoff, to cap off a 5 hour-long classic? In front of THAT crowd?

That has to be one of the greatest feelings of all-time.

[u/CieraVotedOutHerMom → u/suzukigun4life]

AND humpy won the salmon run for the first time ever

[u/MLGLies → u/CieraVotedOutHerMom]

Brilliant gambit to get the fans amped up.

[u/thetreat → u/MLGLies]

Dan Wilson waited to pull out his biggest weapon: Humpy’s first win.

[u/reyean → u/thetreat]

wilson playing true 4D chess hinch had no strategic counter for humpy

[u/thetreat → u/reyean]

Can’t wait for the 30 for 30 on this.

[u/Fake-Podcast-Ad → u/thetreat]

10 part Netflix series, "All the Kings Men".

[u/Invisible_Truth → u/thetreat]

I agree with you, but I also need to say that Jon Bois was born for this.

[u/letskeepitcleanfolks → u/[deleted]]

Is there video of this?

[u/CieraVotedOutHerMom → u/letskeepitcleanfolks]

/r/mariners thread. Crowd goes WILD

[u/book81able → u/CieraVotedOutHerMom]

I didn’t know the Salmon run existed until the 15th but it’s now very important for me. Congrats Humpy

[u/thetreat → u/book81able]

People would die for Humpy.

[u/azularena → u/book81able]

The Mariners winning is nice, but Humpy winning is the reason I am happy to be alive to see this moment

[u/princess9032 → u/book81able]

I want this added to the highlight reel

[u/TheRage469 → u/CieraVotedOutHerMom]

THIS is the real big news tbh

[u/JasonEll → u/TheRage469]

More like "reel" big news.

[u/WithinNormalLimits → u/JasonEll]

Ayyyyy

[u/PolarBailey_ → u/CieraVotedOutHerMom]

MIGHT AS WELL WIN THE WHOLE FUCKING THING

[u/Downtown_Ganache6727 → u/CieraVotedOutHerMom]

Wait what do these words mean lol

[u/CieraVotedOutHerMom → u/Downtown_Ganache6727]

The mariners have 4 salmon mascots who race. Humpy salmon is the most beloved. But has lost every single race until tonight

[u/LynnAndMoyes → u/CieraVotedOutHerMom]

literally Haru Urara

or the horsey from Horse Race Tests

[u/PeteF3 → u/LynnAndMoyes]

I think the real inspiration was Teddy Roosevelt at Nationals Park.

[u/BiggerHatLogan → u/LynnAndMoyes]

RIP Haru Urara

May you be getting grass donations into the big field in the sky

[u/elreeheeneey → u/CieraVotedOutHerMom]

Ok, for the next Nationals/Mariners matchup, can we please have the salmon vs presidents race?

[u/G1Spectrum → u/CieraVotedOutHerMom]

They knew the script

[u/B-i-s-m-a-r-k → u/suzukigun4life]

Bases loaded full count

[u/1ToGreen3ToBasket → u/B-i-s-m-a-r-k]

I think he threw a ball too. So at least him hitting saved the embarrassment of walking in the losing run 😂

[u/hiphopscallion → u/1ToGreen3ToBasket]

Bro it was ball 4 for sure. I was so mad at that swing until I saw the ball roll into the outfield.

[u/BoosherCacow → u/hiphopscallion]

Watch the video again, It was either a strike or close enough that he had to swing. It was a pretty good pitch.

[u/LowDot187 → u/B-i-s-m-a-r-k]

literally what every kid who loves baseball dreams of

[u/imightbehitler → u/suzukigun4life]

can't wait for the Mariners to release the earthquake monitor numbers

[u/Daratirek → u/imightbehitler]

Im pretty sure I felt it in central Minnesota. If its under a 5 I don't believe it.

[u/[deleted]]

There is nothing like baseball.

[u/exjr_]

Finally I can go to sleep

[u/dogdriving → u/exjr_]

Time to turn on Japanese baseball playoffs now

[u/gohehehe → u/dogdriving]

Is there legit way to watch overseas?

[u/dogdriving → u/gohehehe]

Sure! You can buy a one day pass to watch one game or a month long one to watch all of the PL playoffs. No CL or Japan Series though unfortunately

https://pacificleague.com/setup/plan

[u/atchet]

Holy fucking shit. Absolute all time, legendary game. Absolutely feel for Tigers fans, but holy fuck.

[u/angelt0309 → u/atchet]

Meh, I feel like a whole lot of us knew the season was over after the all-time collapse to lose the 15.5 game lead in the division…. It was super exciting to knock out the Guards and force a game 5 in this series (and of course this game was absolute cinema), but it really felt like the team was on borrowed time.

[u/bottle_boys]

Congratulations, you just finished an ESPN Instant Classic!

[u/triplec787 → u/bottle_boys]

College Baseball video game when EA?!?

[u/GamerEP22 → u/triplec787]

They did in the mid 2000’s after 2K bought the Exclusive license to make MLB Simulation Video Games.

[u/3elieveIt → u/bottle_boys]

Oh yeah? Well I just finished a heart attack

[u/Palifaith]

Absolute all time classic.

[u/jdprager → u/Palifaith]

Never in doubt baby, GG EZ

^{I’m dying}

[u/Pauliehatestheadmins → u/Palifaith]

I’m so happy for Seattle

[u/B-i-s-m-a-r-k → u/Pauliehatestheadmins]

We fucking did it

[u/NevermoreSEA → u/Palifaith]

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE POWER OF HUMPY.

[u/superhappyfuntime13]

Scriptwriters: TRUST ME YOU HAVENT SEEN THIS ONE

[u/This-is_CMGRI → u/superhappyfuntime13]

Jon Bois I REALLY hope you're watching this now

[u/Arip1010 → u/This-is_CMGRI]

He posted about it on Bluesky, of course in Jon Bois fashion all he said was “mariners won”

[u/AshlandJackson → u/Arip1010]

^{tigers are gone}

cue smooth jazz music

[u/The_Uncut_Gem → u/Arip1010]

Time to rewatch the Battle for Seattle episode of history of the Seattle mariners and cry again

[u/The_Uncut_Gem → u/This-is_CMGRI]

Hit the zero gravity

[u/cjn13 → u/superhappyfuntime13]

wanna see me blow a 2 on, no out inning?

wanna see me do it again?

[u/Tight_Classroom_2923 → u/cjn13]

15th was feeling like it again tbh 😂

[u/BearBearChooey → u/superhappyfuntime13]

[u/CWG4BF]

HOoOoOoOoOoOLY SHIT

Greatest game I’ve ever seen.

I LOVE OCTOBER BASEBALL

[u/Xaxziminrax → u/CWG4BF]

I was expecting there'd be another double play 😭😭😭😭

[u/coolbean36 → u/CWG4BF]

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SEATTLE KRAKEN HISTORY WE’RE GOING TO THE ALCS

[u/cjn13 → u/coolbean36]

HISTORIC

[u/Zloggt → u/CWG4BF]

It’s the kind of game that gets its own damn Wikipedia page!

[u/Akipella → u/CWG4BF]

POLANCO WAS 0 FOR 5

[u/triplec787 → u/Akipella]

A WIZARD IS NEVER LATE OR EARLY, HE ARRIVES PRECISELY WHEN HES MEANT TO

[u/Own_Jellyfish7089 → u/Akipella]

Everyone was 0-5

[u/postmate → u/Own_Jellyfish7089]

Rodriguez was 0-5 and got intentionally walked lol

[u/Akipella → u/Own_Jellyfish7089]

True lol. What a fucking game

[u/lost_jedi → u/CWG4BF]

My heart was pounding and I had no team in it

[u/blimjahey → u/CWG4BF]

That was truly legendary

[u/RapsareChamps_Suckit → u/blimjahey]

now I gotta turn my back, M's fans

[u/KenBurruss74 → u/CWG4BF]

Our long national nightmare is finally over. We can go to sleep now.

[u/triplec787 → u/CWG4BF]

Insane shit start to finish

[u/jeric13xd → u/CWG4BF]

I’m happy I’m a neutral

[u/kikikza → u/CWG4BF]

I'd say 2016 game 7 takes the cake still but that was wild

[u/adazi6 → u/kikikza]

2011 game 6 will always be the answer for me

[u/sithwonder → u/adazi6]

2001 game 7 for me

[u/DeadDay → u/kikikza]

So glad i threw this on

[u/DaBusDriva2]

If you go to Tommy Kahnle with your season on the line you are going to have a bad time

[u/OwnABMWImBetterThanU → u/DaBusDriva2]

There's a reason he was option #15

[u/Onitsukaryu → u/OwnABMWImBetterThanU]

They couldn’t keep rolling with Flaherty?

[u/Emergency-Bake2416 → u/Onitsukaryu]

Skubal should've gone 250. No excuse really.

[u/icantspellsobr → u/Onitsukaryu]

That was a rollercoaster in its own the last two innings

[u/Karl_Hungus_42069 → u/icantspellsobr]

That was incredible. He was making every pitch feel like... the weight of the world. Throw a couple balls only to come back, 2 on no outs then get out of the inning. Flaherty was a huge reason this was a once in a generation type game

[u/jimihenderson → u/Karl_Hungus_42069]

All while having a mental breakdown on the mound, talking to the voices in his head and having a meltdown over Dingler not calling the right pitches lol. Crazy game

[u/DeadDay → u/icantspellsobr]

Id take it over Khanles bendover

[u/suzukigun4life → u/Onitsukaryu]

Dude started out with 10 balls in his first 14 pitches. How he allowed no runs is beyond me.

[u/mongster03_ → u/Onitsukaryu]

Didn't he load the bases twice

[u/IdidntrunIdidntrun → u/mongster03_]

Well you gotta lull them into a false sense of security, right where you want em

[u/WorthPlease → u/IdidntrunIdidntrun]

We call them "Emotional Support Baserunners". Edwin Diaz can't pitch without em.

[u/Fionarei → u/DaBusDriva2]

Change up

[u/MozzerellaStix → u/DaBusDriva2]

I genuinely cannot remember him getting through an inning without giving up a run

[u/RealPutin → u/MozzerellaStix]

He had a clean outing previously in this series lol

[u/Jmong30 → u/DaBusDriva2]

Yeah I love Tommy Tightpants but I knew this was going to happen the moment he was up in the pen

[u/Kevinar → u/Jmong30]

He's fine as like a 6th inning guy, but with your season on the line...😬

[u/Jmong30 → u/Kevinar]

To give them credit, they really tried to not play him 😭

[u/whispy_fingernail]

LET’S GO (to bed)

[u/Sandwich_Crust]

We just witnessed possibly the best Division Series game of all time. OMG.

[u/Pianoman1317 → u/Sandwich_Crust]

Seattle definitely now has claim to 2 that could be considered the best

[u/OldDekeSport → u/Pianoman1317]

I still think 95 is above this, but only because it kept the team in Seattle. The stakes were a bit different then

[u/65fairmont → u/OldDekeSport]

Is this "The Single" to play off of that? Kind of a lame name but the symmetry works.

[u/OldDekeSport → u/65fairmont]

Tbh if that hit wants a name we need to make the WS.

Then it'd be The Double saved the team, and The Single sent the Ms to their first World Series.

Amazing play, and every Ms fan will remember it even if it doesnt get a name

[u/Akipella]

HE WAS 0 FOR 5

[u/comp_a → u/Akipella]

Don’t doubt my goat like that

[u/Val_Killsmore → u/comp_a]

Fucking hell, that was awesome

[u/WithinNormalLimits → u/comp_a]

Garve Sauce and Jorge driving in runs. My boys :(

[u/NevermoreSEA → u/comp_a]

Imagine ever doubting the great chicken man.

[u/rsarin18 → u/Akipella]

NOW HES 1 FOR 6

[u/InfectiousCosmology1 → u/rsarin18]

And nobodies gonna remember the other five

[u/GDI-Titan → u/Akipella]

Not 0-6 though.

[u/RedBuchan]

Game Of The Year

[u/CieraVotedOutHerMom → u/RedBuchan]

Game of my life

[u/kevin_nguyen03 → u/RedBuchan]

game of the decade honestly with how much it took off our lifespans 😭

[u/Swaycuisway]

As an unbiased baseball fan, I think the Mariners should absolutely party hard and drink tons of beer tonight.

[u/InfectiousCosmology1 → u/Swaycuisway]

They’re going to bed immediately

[u/CoastalDJ → u/InfectiousCosmology1]

They've still got a long flight to Toronto ahead of them :)

[u/KittenExtravaganza → u/CoastalDJ]

Oh my god the travel for that series is gonna be brutal

[u/mclumber1 → u/KittenExtravaganza]

Not any worse than the SEA-DET series really.

[u/epicphoton → u/KittenExtravaganza]

Mariners travel the farthest of any baseball team every year. As Jon Bois put it, we're "baseball's moon colony."

[u/1ToGreen3ToBasket → u/InfectiousCosmology1]

No kidding they have a game against the hottest offense I’ve ever seen in less than 48 hours and they have no pitchers for it 😭 they need some shut eye

[u/gabis420 → u/1ToGreen3ToBasket]

[u/Extension-Click-8271 → u/InfectiousCosmology1]

10pm on a Friday night, time to fire it up

[u/Freezinghero → u/InfectiousCosmology1]

Better have some good earplugs cuz that city is going to be LOUD

[u/Pizzaplan3tman → u/Swaycuisway]

It’s a 7 game series who needs Game 1 when you win Game 5 to advance that’s just basic math checkmate mathiests

[u/SeaOfRed_]

Least stressful Mariners game

[u/Ankoria → u/SeaOfRed_]

Normal Mariners experience

[u/Propuhganduh]

I thought we were going to get a walk off walk

[u/danhoang1 → u/Propuhganduh]

That'd be the worst feeling as a pitcher to gift the opponent a free pass to end your season. Gotta at least make the batter work for it

EDIT: 2nd-worst

[u/iNoodl3s → u/danhoang1]

I can think of a worse way a pitcher can lose the season

[u/TrickyPG → u/iNoodl3s]

Somebody didn't watch the Phillies.

[u/slowestmojo → u/danhoang1]

I dunno ask Kerkering I bet he would rather have walked the winning run rather than what he did last night

[u/TheRage469 → u/Propuhganduh]

It would've been the most poetic and anticlimactic ending to a marathon game like this lol

[u/see_mohn]

that was one of the best/worst and most compelling games I've ever seen

[u/iamDB_Cooper]

Congrats to Seattle and their fans. What a battle.

I love this game.

We’ll be back!

[u/safe-viewing → u/iamDB_Cooper]

Thanks for being graceful. You’ve got a great team

[u/TechnicalChocolate91]

THE MARINERS, PROTAGONISTS OF BASEBALL, ARE GOING TO THE ALCS

[u/This-is_CMGRI → u/TechnicalChocolate91]

Battle for Seattle 2.0 happened here

now it's gonna be Mariners vs Blue Jays and I swear if somehow we get a no-hitter broken by an RBI double...

[u/rock9388 → u/This-is_CMGRI]

That would just be the hand of God reaching down and forcing Jon Bois to write another video

[u/IFVoltaire]

Thank fuck for the pitch clock. Add another hour or 2 if we didnt.

[u/amonovalentradical → u/IFVoltaire]

Haha I was thinking the same thing. Dodgers Red Sox 18 innings was 7 hours 20 mins w/ no pitch clock. This was a breezy 5 hrs.

[u/Clipbored_]

[u/ContinuumGuy]

IS THIS A GREAT SPORT OR WHAT!?!?!!?!

[u/jigglypat19]

I can't even be mad about this, this series has been so insane and I'm so happy it was against you guys. I said I wanted some great games and this team delivered that so well. I'll be remembering this one for a while, it was nothing short of an epic conclusion to our season and I hope you're able to continue that amazing defensive display out in toronto and wherever else it takes you.

congratulations mariners!! go all the way!! 🐯 🔱

[u/NineMillionBears]

Nothing but respect for the Tigers. This series was a nailbiter from start to finish.

[u/Knightbear49]

THAT’S TWINS LEGEND JORGE POLANCO TO YOU!

[u/TheNewScrooge → u/Knightbear49]

HIP HIP

[u/dilloj → u/TheNewScrooge]

JORGE!!!!

[u/BringerOfBacon → u/Knightbear49]

Polanco sends the Tigers home? Biggest win for Twins baseball since the all star break.

[u/G1Spectrum]

WHAT A FUCKIN GAME

[u/schafkj]

ETSY WITCH MANIFESTING

[u/Wyden_long]

Hell yeah Seattle. Go crazy.

[u/Vast-Change-1598]

I’m so fucking happy rn

[u/blimjahey]

IT'S FINALLY OVER

[u/FPG_Matthew]

I can’t really put into words on how to describe it, but I knew the Mariners were winning as soon as I saw the pitcher’s body language. Something about how he carried himself just did NOT instill confidence whatsoever. It looked like even he knew what was coming before he faced his first batter

So much so I typed all this out after the HBP

WHAT A FREAKIN ALL TIME GAME

[u/subusta → u/FPG_Matthew]

The deep breaths before each pitch looked like those videos of cops in training about to be tased

[u/NotAPersonl0 → u/FPG_Matthew]

By the 11th inning it was (at least to me), incredibly obvious that Seattle was going to win. They were putting up traffic on the basepaths every inning, with the Tigers being bailed out by double plays at the last second. You just knew the Mariners would break through eventually

[u/Bahamas_is_relevant → u/NotAPersonl0]

Honestly I sort of felt the opposite - sure, from a fundamentals perspective they were acing it, but the constant DPs/choking convinced me that on a cosmic level it just wasn’t gonna be their night.

Happy to be proven wrong.

[u/UnderwearMonster]

So glad I watched this a neutral fan. My heart couldn't take that.

[u/jinx737x]

THE MARATHON GAME(the good ending for the M’s)

[u/InfectiousCosmology1]

One of the greatest games in a long time

[u/tquad24]

[u/Colonel_Cummings]

What a fucking game omg

[u/God834]

Nothing but props mariners fans 👏

[u/NevermoreSEA]

ABSOLUTE. FUCKING. SEANEMA.

[u/Skinny_JM]

Please, let’s never do that again. 😅

[u/JoeKonyRidethePony]

Hip hip Jorge ❤️💙

[u/Ricemobile]

Who cares I gotta wake up in 5 hours. I just witnessed history. One of the best games ever.

[u/AthleticAlarm32]

Seattle fans, you deserve this

Tigers fans....you do not. I'm sorry

[u/vintagehotdog13 → u/AthleticAlarm32]

Naturally had to end on a Kahnle blow :/ hits hard

[u/tododia → u/AthleticAlarm32]

not only is it heartbreaking, but we also get to watch the ENTIRE INTERNET celebrate. great game though.

[u/Warlight4Fun]

What a game.

[u/DZepperoni]

MARINERS WOOOOOOOOO

[u/estovak]

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GO TO SLEEP AFTER THIS GAME HOLY FUCK

[u/RedAlkaline]

the mariners are going to play for the american league championship...I don't believe it

[u/2Bid]

What a game. This is an all-time classic. Longest ever elimination game

[u/Lethologica9]

[u/bachelorwave]

AJ Pierzynski: No but seriously I still think bunt there

[u/wuklo]

Good game, Mariners. Well deserved.

[u/CatPeet]

I AM SHAKING RN MY OH MY!!!

[u/PerkyPineapple1]

I started watching in the sixth and watched a full game of baseball

[u/jfsu0]

I LOVE BASEBALL. One of the best games I will ever watch
