this has been the scariest experience of his life. horrified, traumatised, trying to hide under his own body.

I had 6 friends round at the weekend, and of course they all wanted to see the snake!

I cuddled his little pretzel self on my lap for 5 minutes and eventually he unwound his cute head and came out to explore! I was so proud of him for being so brave 😍

ball pythons are ambush predators that spend their whole lives in rodent burrows, so anything unfamiliar coming at them from above reads as a hawk, and hiding under his own coils is just him doing exactly what his instincts tell him to do. if he's still eating and shedding on schedule he's fine, and the fact that he calms down on your hand is the actual tell that he's settled in.

hes absolutely fine!! it was just a five minute spook, hes currently sitting on my bed happily exploring a pile of plushies, just wanted to share an interesting moment :)
