Question Bitten by dog in Flores

Hi,
I know this isn’t Bali but thought it’d get the most replies and quite relatable. I am currently doing a road trip through flores, stopped at a warung during our Ruteng to Bajawa leg. Very nice warung with friendly owners and they had a pet dog.
I went to pet the dog and out of nowhere he nipped me. Only a small bite, wasn’t painful at all but a tiny spot cut with a little bit of blood drawn. The owners helped me washed my wound with soup and arak (alcohol) and said that there is no rabies in Flores at the moment and it will be fine.

I am staying in Bajawa tonight, and Ende tomorrow night before flying to Lombok for a week.

What would you do?

Trip Report VOA online is broken

Just had an argument with my wife trying to navigate the broken website. She had the onward booking details so it requires both of us... And the website is just timing out, or just doing something stupid.

This is not a good way to start a holiday.

Hello!

Can you recommend chilled new year places for people who do not want to go to the major clubs? Those packages are so expensive and it’s only going to be for 2 people. Looking around the seminyak area

Question Where to buy a floatie pererenan

Hey y’all
I’ve been in Bali for 3 days now with my family and we are absolutely enjoying this wonderful place. Where we live we have a pool and the kids are begging for some kind of floatie. I’ve been googling and it seems that I have to either rent one or buy online.
Does anyone know of a physical store where I could get a floatie for kids. Would a big supermarket carry stuff like that?
I’m in pererenan area.

Travel alert Heads-up about serious fuel shortages

Fuel has run out in many places in Bali and it’s apparently not expected to be resolved within the next 2 days, as the senator stated.

This will of course affect all transport but also indirectly possibly the stocking of shops and whether places can even open up. I already heard of 1 place where not all employees could make it there today.

I haven’t looked further into why this is happening now and who dropped the ball.

Question What is this? NSFW

Yesterday, I was sitting on a wooden chair when I suddenly felt a sharp sting, followed by intense itching. There was absolutely nothing visible on my skin at first, but this morning I woke up with this large, red, raised, bumpy rash.
It’s been over 24 hours now, and the itching has mostly stopped, but the rash still looks pretty intense.
Has anyone experienced anything similar in Bali? Any idea what could have caused this? I’ve never had a reaction like this before, so I’m curious what it might be.

Question Best Indonesian dishes that you personally love?

I’ve asked a few locals here and there and have had stuff like Babi Guling, Nasi Campur, mee goreng, rendang, ayam batutu etc.

Are there any dishes that might not be the most popular dish that you love?

Where I come from there are absolutely no Indonesian restaurants so I’m trying to make the most of my holiday here.

Question [Bali/Indonesia] any special requirements for flying drones ?

Hello.

I am new to drones, i am a registered operator in EU (Romania) and my drone is a DJI Neo 2 (so C0, sub 250g).

Anything special to be aware of in Indonesia, Bali specifically ?

I know i am not allowed to fly around the airport and the shrines, any other limitations ?

Do i need anything extra, for example to register with Bali or Indonesian authorities ?

Any info from sombody living in Bali or who was recently there would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Information Kopi Bali fragrance

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello,

I visited back in May 2025 and I had a driver for hire for 7 days (such a nice dude). He had this freshener hanging in his car (coffee version) and I think it’s called Kopi Bali fragrance. He was based out of ubud but he bought it from somewhere near ubud but could be available near uluwatu.

I tried few versions on Amazon but nothing came close to this. Can anyone recommend where I can buy this? I am in Canada now. Or if any fellow Canadians coming back can bring this for me, and I will pay of course. 😅

Question How to find fellow solo buddy in Bali?

Hi! I'll be in Bali from 23–30 November, travelling solo, and thought I'd see if anyone else will be around during that period!

I'm hoping to find a fellow female traveller (I'm female in my 30s) who's interested in trying gyms, Pilates, spin or other fitness studios, but feels a little awkward or intimidated about going alone. 😂 Sometimes it's just nice to have someone to go with when trying somewhere new!

A little about me: I'm generally quite quiet and introverted, and I enjoy having my own space, so I'm not really looking for someone to spend every waking moment with. But I also think it'd be nice to have a buddy to encourage each other to try new things, grab meals or coffee occasionally, or explore together when our plans align.

Basically, I'm hoping to find someone who enjoys travelling independently but would also appreciate a bit of companionship along the way. No pressure to do everything together, and we're totally free to do our own thing!

If you're a fellow solo female traveller who gets what I mean, feel free to drop me a message. Would be nice to connect before the trip and maybe plan a class or two together!

Female travellers only, please :)

Question Over-the-counter medication

Do I need a doctor’s letter for over-the
-counter medications to enter Bali? The Aussie embassy website says not, but the update seems to be from 2016. My local embassy website says nothing and they don’t answer the phone. The official Indonesian BPOM rules talk about quantities but do not seem to distinguish between prescribed and non-prescribed meds. It’s mostly boring just stuff like paracetamol, something for nausea, etc. I do have an OTC for muscle spasms. Everything is in the original packaging with my name on the pharmacies printed label. Do I need to declare it and do I need a doctor’s letter?

Question Recommendations for a vibey beach town/village with community?

Hi everyone! I'm looking for recommendations on chill, relaxed towns/villages/areas by the sea that provide access to remote worker or nomad community and/or hippie events such as Singing Circles, Ecstatic Dances or Yoga, but aren't overrun by tourists.

Reference: The area around Puerto Viejo de Talamanca in Costa Rica.

Any tips? :-)

Question Anyone has a map link to a place to park motorcycle at DPS airport?

Last time I tried it was a nightmare. Turned me around because it was vsr only so had to drive agaisnt traffic and I parked at a random Pertamini gas station and took a grab bike to the airport. And left it for three days. I tried looking up on Google and people have had the same experience having to drive against traffic.

What do you guys do?

Question Quick travel question! Bali experts, I need your advice

I am planning my visit to the Gates of Heaven (Pura Lempuyang) and I am torn on the timing. What is your real experience?
Is it worth going at sunrise?
Or is sunset a better option?
Which time do you recommend to beat the crowds and make the most of it?
Also, do you have any good tour recommendations or private driver contact suggestions for this trip?

I’ll be there the next week and I didn’t book anything hahaha if you have any other recommendations I will appreciate it. I’ll stay just in Ubud. thanks

Question Blondies and damaged brunettes in Bali, I need your hair survival tips

Calling all blondies and damaged-hair girlies living in Bali!
Please share your holy grail hair products, routines, or literally any tips that have helped you keep your hair from falling out, breaking off, or turning into straw in Bali. 🥲
I’m desperate at this point and willing to try pretty much anything, EXCEPT washing my hair with filtered water. That’s just not realistic for me, unfortunately.
What actually works? Any miracle products, treatments, or little tricks that have saved your hair?
Help a girl out before I go bald. 😭

Question Markets Kuta

What are some markets you'd recommend in Kuta, especially for street food like babi guling, bebek goreng, laklak etc? I'd love to visit a proper wet market. Addresses would be ideal too, thanks.

Question Beard oil for skin condition

Hey guys,

I’ve got a slight skin condition which means I need beard oil (the one from home ran out). Any of the local gents know a store where I can find some? I’ve tried looking around, but I have no idea where to look. I’m staying in the Mengwi area if that helps any. Thanks!

Trip Report How to find a cheaper taxi from Padang Bai

We figured this out a few months ago via a lot of trial and error, so wanted to share for any others ferrying in. The “taxi mafia” at the port are quite effective in setting and enforcing a high prices out of Padang Bai for short drives, though there are many drivers who are willing to drive for more reasonable amounts. There are a few options for getting around this:

Option 1: Look up the price from Padang Bai Harbor to wherever you’re going on Grab and have that in-hand. As soon as you exit the ferry there will be a ton of people offering taxis - some, often those hanging too the side, will say “for grab price,” and if you can show them the Grab price and lock it in then, go for it. Just make sure both sides have said the same final cost.

Option 2: Say the crowds at the dock put you off, you can try your luck at calling a Grab further down the main road (about 15 minutes). Doing this without alerting the taxi mafia requires SEAMLESS ENTRY INTO THE GRAB. Do not have it stop and meet you somewhere, or the taxi mafia will come on motorcycles to harass/yell at your driver (as we experienced). If you really want this method (or you must pay in card / have no cash) then I suggest calling the car to 100 meters from you, timing your walking so that you just roll up to the car and get in without pausing. Don’t open the trunk to load your luggage. Just hop in.

Option 3: If you can’t get a good price at the dock and you don’t want to try the getaway-car method, you can signal your desire for a lower price by walking farther and farther from the port. This is what my friend and I did after our first Grab driver was threatened off bc we are fairly decent hikers. The taxi mafia guy who blocked our driver with his motorcycle followed us for a while as we walked, first telling us that the nearest grab would be 12km away, then dropping the initial 500K price to 400K, then eventually driving off. At this point, another car stopped and offered us “the grab price” - which we took and hopped in quickly.

Hope this is helpful - mostly wanted to share it because some posters had ok luck calling grabs a few blocks up from the harbor, and we certainly did not. It’s possible the taxi mafia have gotten even more organized or have expanded their patrol routes, but it took us about a 25 minute walk to sneak through the price barrier, and even then we still saw the men on motorcycles patrolling ahead of us

Question Day trip seminyak to ubud

Looking for a few must see/do things in Ubud, we will be travelling from Seminyak and will need to hire a driver.

My MIL is 60 with minor mobility issues which is why a driver is best, she is keen to see some temples etc.

My partner and 7yr may also be with us depending on the plan.

Also after solid lunch recommendation

Thanks
