Reminder: Buying and selling bags is against the rules of this sub

Seen this pop up a fair bit lately. Because people aren't reading the rules I've started banning people temporarily for this.

Please read the rules people. It's really not that hard and don't get upset if you break the rules and get punished. It's on you to read those.

The reason it's not allowed is I don't want this sub (and me) to be responsible for having to moderate that crap. Go look at r/EDCExchange or other subs that allow it. They have systems in place to hold people accountable.

OneBag Finally found my end-game, KING of Slings šŸ‘‘

I don’t usually post on this page but I just really wanted to give my thoughts on this BEAST of a sling I’ve been using for a while now. I truly consider it my end game sling. This is the Aer Go Sling 2.

To begin, I’ve used many sling bags (last photo got just a few examples) in my search for my ā€˜end game sling’ and I’ll say one thing to start, there is no ā€˜best sling’ or ā€˜king of slings’ like what some people say online. One sling could be the best in one persons eyes but the same sling in the eyes of another could be seen as lacking or bad. It all comes down to what you are using the sling for, your loadout and the like.

In saying all this, I don’t have a very heavy loadout, I don’t hold heavier items like kindles, iPads, consoles, bottles or the like, I like to have a sling which is more so a pocket reliever, subtle, comfortable to wear, conforms to my body well, has softer materials and has great internal organisation.

I’ve had experience using many well known slings such as slings from Bellroy, Alpaka, Aer, Tomtoc, Cotopaxi, Evergoods, AbleCarry, Rework Toshi and many many more. In all of my uses of all these slings and much more, after heavy deliberation and research, I can confidently say that no matter how many slings I’ve bought and used, I always go back to the Aer Go Sling 2.

I feel that this sling completely defeats the likes of the Bellroy Venture Ready 2.5L, the Tomtoc Aviator 2.5L, the Rework Toshi 2.5L, the AbleCarry core Sling, the Aer Day Sling 4, the Evergoods CAS1, the Alpaka Flight Sling 1L. This sling is just awesome.

As for my loadout, I like to have my phone in my sling so including the phone, I also have my AirPods, car keys, wet wipe pack, bandages, glasses wipe, pen, slim power bank, a pack of gum, a perfume atomiser, small hand sanitizer, and even with all this I feel comfortable wearing this sling, it doesn’t droop or become a brick on my body, it sits comfortably with room to spare!!! I can STILL fit more items if I wanted to inside this sling.

As for its use, I’ve used this sling for daily work commute, I work in the airport and in addition to everything it already has in it, I add my airport cards and keys which works fine.

I’ve also used this sling for trips overseas, I’ve taken it to Malaysia, in the airport as a travel sling as well as in another country it performs absolutely amazingly.

I also use it for day to day outings to the mall or grocery shops and it is great.

There are times I’ll use another sling for an outing or a situation and then I’ll end up wanting to go back home just to use this sling instead. This has happened countless times with this sling lol.

It’s so versatile as a sling in many different situations, and no, this is not sponsored or anything, I just genuinely love this sling so much no strings attached.

It’s comfort is next level, I even have had instances where I genuinely forgot I was wearing this sling with around the same loadout I mentioned prior.

It’s to keep in mind that with the softer material it isn’t going to be as weather resistant as some of the previous examples of slings I mentioned, but for where I live in Australia which is a more tropical climate, there isn’t much heat or rain that is consistent throughout the year. It’s changing weather and so, the lack of PU coating on the zippers is actually a plus, it makes opening this sling and closing it with one hand so easy, in fact, it’s much easier to open than any of the other slings I mentioned before.

It’s strapping is great as well, small, subtle, doesn’t dig into my neck even when it’s packed, and the little magnetic component for the strap to be taken off easily is actually great, unlike what some people have criticised this strapping with online, I’ve never once had an issue where it opened on its own EVER. I haven’t had this issue with any sling I wear that has this feature, it genuinely seems quite strong and safe.

(Just to add, the A.R I custom added to this sling is my initials, as well as the two zipper pulls I added.)

In conclusion, this truly is the King of Slings for me

Backpack carry-on (Osprey Kyte LT 45)??

Hi all,

Going to Patagonia this December for three weeks and we're flying with British Airways from Amsterdam to Santiago, and then we have a couple of internal flights with LATAM. I'm trying to find a good backpack that will fullfill the hiking needs (2-3 day hikes) but would still pass the carry-on sizes for these airlines.

I found this backpack https://www.osprey.com/eu/kyte-lt-45-s26?size=One+Size&colour=Cascade+Blue which was really comfortable and seems like a good size (big enough in terms of volume but not very big looking), however the depth is slightly too big for the official rules:

DIMENSIONS 64H X 32W X 34D CM

Does anyone have any experience with these airlines and taking slightly bigger bags than allowed? Are they strict? Any info or advice is very appriacted.

Cheers!

Question Mini backpack with comfortable straps? does it exist?

I have tried about 7 mini backpacks mostly from bagsmart, but I am willing to spend up to $120 for the right bag.

It seems almost all of the bags on the market now have that uncomfortable vinyl scratchy bag strap that hurts my skin when I wear a tank top.

  • Comfortable straps
  • lightweight
  • very small (needs to only fit a phone/diaper/bottle with a small ice pack)

I don't care what it looks like, I am all about the comfort.

Jansport Scout 63 or REI Trekker Long Trail?

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase my first hiking backpack for camping. I saw listings for $50 with shipping on ebay for the two backpacks in the title. Which would be better for general comfort/attaching a tent and sleeping pad to the frame?

I've been travelling using an Osprey Porter 30 for the past 10 years, so I'm hoping upgrading to a hiking bag will mean the weight is better distributed allowing me to carry heavier loads since I can't afford ultralight gear.

I'm about 5'8"/173cm and weigh 195lb.

Travel has anyone used osprey hikelite 28 to travel?

I am thinking of buying a backpack for traveling, and when I when to a store, they recommended me the ospreys hikelite 28, since i like light weight backpack, but still work as carry-on(and be able to get on LCC) I'm also considering osprey 26+6 model as well.
I'd like to keep less than 32l ish, do you have any other recommendation? I live in Europe btw. it

Question Good backpack for clothes & art supplies?

Hi, my wife is doing a course in another city and I'd like to get a backpack for her - she stays over so needs clothes and supplies (she usually takes a drink and a bit of food too) but also ideally it'd have a compartment where she could store her A4 artwork and notes, as well as some of her art tools? Ideally around 30L because her current one is 21L and too small.

Something comfortable and not too heavy ideally as well because she has to talk around with it for miles each day. Probably asking a lot but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions please? Thanks :)

Edit: I'm in the UK, budget would ideally be no more than £50, but happy to spend extra if it's worth it (up to £100)

Travel Is Matador's 18L Personal item Travel pack enough for a week, or is the 30L worth it?

I usually fly budget airlines where the personal item is the only bag included for free, so having a bag designed to fit under the seat sounds better than trying to squeeze down a 35L pack. Matador’s 18L Personal Item Travel Pack is built for that, with the 30L Carry-On Travel Pack as the next size up. For week-long trips, can you realistically get by with the 18L, or is it better to pay the carry-on fee and go with the 30L?

Travel Ultralight Recommendations

I’m looking for recommendations for an ultralight backpack that can hold a laptop, a water bottle, and a few small items. I want to use it as a secondary backpack for travel. I currently use a 25L EDC backpack for traveling, but it’s a bit heavy for when I want to venture out to a cafĆ© to work or just go sightseeing. I’m looking for something ultralight and thin that won’t take up much space in my luggage. Don’t need much protection. Any one have any recommendations?

Requirements:
15L higher is fine if light weight
Around 1lb ish
Water bottle holder
Laptop sleeve or strap
Semi flex material to squish in suit case

Question Looking for a good EDC backpack in Singapore

I am looking for a good EDC backpack that will last a long time, is available in black and that i can buy in Singapore. I carry a laptop, gym shorts, t-shirt and barefoot gym shoes, a small pouch with tech accessories, a large metal water bottle and a small umbrella (that i would like to keep on the outside of the backpack). My friend has an Able Carry Max EDC 26L and has recommended it, although I don't like the way it looks. I like the design of Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC but it's not very comfortable on my back or shoulders.

What are some other backpacks I should try?

Planning on doing some traveling soon and need something that's durable, strong with lots of space. I like how the front and side pockets are detached. The front pouch can be used for a durable fanny pack/shoulder bag!

Big-A** school backpack recommendations, L l Bean?

Looking for a LARGE school bag that will also be used for weekend trips. I carry a big lunchpail, clothes, etc to school so I need a big backpack, no I can’t slim down don’t ask.Ā

I’m realizing my old Roots backpack is probably close to 40L and I’m used to it so when I say large I mean NO LESS than 30L and that ~35L is probably better honestly.

I want multiple compartments not a black hole or one of the ā€œtravelā€ bags that need packing cubes cause its one giant clamshell square. Also do not care for/need clamshell opening, I want a backpack not a suitcase backpack.Ā

Requirements:Ā  Ā

  • Laptop slot (most have this I know)
  • Multiple compartments: main, secondary main, and a few smaller ones
  • At LEAST 30L, ~35L+ probably better
  • Stands up on its own/on bottom
  • Good quality. I know everyone says Jansport for bigger school bags but they FEEL so cheap and the zippers get stuck
  • Under $200 canadian
  • Waterproofish
  • Not ugly
    • Not super hiking looking
    • I would rather depth than super tall
    • Preferably in a green or brown colour scheme
  • Sunglasses/small shallow pocket? (Not a dealbreaker)

Does anyone know anything about L L Bean bags recently? Are they good quality? I’m looking at this one but can’t really find reviews: comfort carry laptop pack 32L

recommendation for a small over the shoulder pack ?

Just got a 14ā€ laptop and it doesn’t quite fit in my fave EDC (Greenroom metromonger). Wonder if anyone has a suggestion for me…. Here’s what I’m after:

volume: 12-13L ? Current bag is 10, but I figure I need to step it up slightly if I want to fit the laptop and still have space to force the occasional hoodie in there. But still really trying to keep it minimal.

shape/style: over the shoulder. Not a fan of true messenger bags though — prefer something more square and structured, with a full zip closure.

aesthetic: dark colors. technical without being overly complex. A lot of tech/tactical stuff just has way too many straps and pockets, which all leads to bulk. I want something that will collapse into a carry on suitcase for travel. But I do want to access pockets from the outside, and some other D-rings or webbing will get used if they’re there.

I also just think that travel style bags are unnecessarily bland. Tom bihn always comes up because they have some well designed smaller bags, but again the aesthetic is a bit plain. No shade, but my mom has Tom bihn.

Other feature requirements:

  • a handle, so I can carry it like a briefcase.
  • sleeve for 14ā€ laptop. Should be well padded on the bottom edge, but otherwise not too bulky
  • (bonus points for luggage passthrough)
