I have one , been feeding him for three years. Just took him to be fixed. I could get within a few feet and he would bolt. I was always nice to him. Never loud or made any movements towards him.
He is on my closed in front porch. Im giving him space and then im going to try and socialize him. I thought he was older but the vet said he was around 3. Broke my heart he has been outside his whole life.

If you don’t think they are pets then consider asking a shelter for a trap. Lots of them are willing to help with TNR for strays.

I thought bout it but I rather just let them be and feed them.

TNR is just trap, neuter, release. You would just take them to get fixed and vaccinated and then release them back into your backyard. It’s basically just letting them be and feeding them, but preventing them from having a bunch of babies.
I was feeding 1 female cat and she had 2 litters of kittens before I could get her fixed. She would’ve kept bringing me kittens every couple of months if I didn’t get her fixed.

And picture 1 kitty either is, or is nearly pregnant, if she's not spayed. They look fairly healthy and clean in the pictures, so they may be someone's spayed, neutered, and vaccinated pets that go on adventures together.
Hopefully it's the latter or you're gonna end up with at least one litter of kittens.

Mmm 🤔 maybe that why it’s been eating more then usually… I am in trouble if it is.. lol

Look into TNR programs for real...or stop feeding them unless they are so tame they'll eat out of your hands...

My mother in law started that way. Now she's feeding about 20 cats a day... Spending hundreds a month on food. And she's their entire source of food, so she can't stop or they'll starve.... But they also keep having more kittens.
So yeah, you really aren't doing them or future you any favors if you don't trap them and get them fixed.

Yeah, don’t approach the cat, they need to be curious and comfortable to approach you. When they eat, sit low, close by, but not too close by, don’t stare. Put some treats between you and them, so that they might turn closer in your direction.
Just sit there, with sleepy eyes, no sudden movements and let them eat in peace. After a few weeks of sitting nearby calmly, put some treats in your hand, and slowly toss a few at them, to get them closer. They might get comfortable and sniff your hands after a while due to the scent of treats. No sudden movements. Then one day they might let you ‘accidentally’ brush your hand on their side. Never attempt to pick them up. One day they might brush up against your leg, and thats when you can finally attempt to give them a little scritch of mutual friendship and trust.

We had a big orange cat watch us from across the yard for 3 years.
Now he's under my feet whenever I'm in the garden.
We've been trying to lure him inside for the last couple of winters. We live North of 50

We have like six of those, and some just won't let you pet them for a while. Those cats up there just need to get used to you. If it's already been a while, and you have a chair outside, sit quietly in it when you know they will be coming to eat. Do that a few times, maybe offer a special treat after several days of that, then see if they will smell your hand. Remember to be quiet, and also remember that this just won't work sometimes.

I have an indoor cat; been with us from when she was just a kitten. Three years later, she treats us exactly like your street cats except that she is terrified when we try to take her outside. All show… but we love her all the same.

I’ve been feeding this void at work for about 8 months now, closest I’ve gotten is 2 feet away while reaching for the food bowl. It will come lay on my steps for food and will slow blink at me but runs off if anyone gets too close. The calico is a recent member and she will meow at you very cutely and will approach for minimal pets. All cats are different and have different backgrounds.
Like will I ever get to pet the black cat? Probably not, unless I trap it and force it to be around humans. I know that one is fixed tho (ear clipped). I’d love to find a home for the calico tho before it gets cold as she is very friendly and probably was a pet at some point.

Look at their fur, they aren't stray cats, but beautiful, well-groomed and loved cats. Please do not feed them anymore.

As a lifelong cat owner, I will never understand the people who expect to just pick up and hold a cat. Will some cats let you pick them up, or hold them? Yes. Will most cats, especially ones that don’t know you really well? In my experience, absolutely not.
My wife complains that our 4 cats all like me better because they snuggle me more, sit on my lap, rub against me more. Guess which of us tries to pick a cat up daily and which doesn’t?
