If you want to socialize it , its easier when they are young. If you dont want it , please find a local reescue so they can.

Speaking from experience, tree kittens make some of the best kittens

•

u/Dinx42 11h ago

You sound like you have a lovely story to tell?

•

u/wreckin_shit 10h ago

It's got its ups and downs. Me and three roommates moved across the US together, and less than a month unto our new place we discovered a litter of kittens in our tree/yard. We fed them and watched them grow and interact within the local kitty community, my window offered a particularly favorable view of where they would socialize. We had some trouble with interfering neighbors who insisted on bringing the whole litter including the feral mother into their home, which really turned out poorly for that neighbor. They ended up putting the troupe back outside of our house, we got them TNRed by the humane society, and then other neighbors took most of them, but my boy Thomas evaded capture just to end up on our porch and asking for assistance from us. We opened the door for him and he literally ran inside with zero coercion, lol. Here's a pic of baby Thomas, seven years ago

This is him now, a couple months ago. A life long friend/family member.

•

u/HeyYouGuyyyyyyys 10h ago

Dear Thomas:

Please be my friend.

•

u/wreckin_shit 10h ago

If you have a churu, he is your friend 🤭

•

u/spacebunsofsteel 9h ago

I have churu!!!

•

u/wreckin_shit 8h ago

Thomas is intrigued with the prospect of acquiring and consuming the aforementioned churu

•

u/Mirorcurious 8h ago

He seems to have adapted quite well to the indoor life as lord of the manor.

•

u/wreckin_shit 8h ago

If you were to ask him he would say he doesn't receive enough food, pets, treats, or play time. He has become quite spoiled as lord of the manor, and is not afraid to voice his suggestions to improve kitty life within the home. As the oldest kitty in the house he has taken up the role as speaker of the house in addition to his duties as lord of the manor, so we hear from him quite a bit. 😂

u/Mirorcurious 6h ago

Tsk. Heavy is the crown.

•

u/Dinx42 10h ago

Looks a right character 😂

•

u/wreckin_shit 10h ago

He's turned from street kitty to prince, a total rags to not quite riches tale 😂

•

Funny story. My friend adopted a stray kitty and named it thomas. It was a year from then, that Thomas had her own kittens, was when he realised Thomas was a girl cat. The name has stuck however! She will respond to no other name than Thomas.

•

u/Dinx42 10h ago

Great story 😁. Your community of cats sounds brilliant, you should all put cat cameras on them and see what they get upto 🤔😆. Bit of a side track here but what happened with you and your 3 roommates that travelled together and how do you work out custody of Thomas?

•

u/wreckin_shit 10h ago

So, the four of us moved to a larger(but not the largest) city in Colorado. Since then one of us has moved back home and us remaining three have moved all over the city together. When we brought Thomas in, all the roommates had dogs and I didn't have any fur babies so I took on the responsibility of being Thomas's main parent. Once Thomas moved in there was definitely some confusion on his part as to whether he was a dog or a cat. The dogs would run around the house barking at outside noise, with Thomas in tow, doing his best dog impersonation. As he got older the dogs grew weary of this fur ball that had knives for hands. My remaining roommates have transitioned into cat people so now it's three cats in the house, but Thomas is definitely the favorite, we've all been through so much together and watched him grow into a very unique boy. He definitely misses all his older dog bros, as they have all passed away. And I'm sure once me and my remaining roomies part ways they will come too visit Thomas. Edit: for context, this pic is less than a year of him moving in.

Precious!!

•

u/Calgaris_Rex 6h ago

Ours was in the garbage

•

u/rastagizmo 4h ago

I agree. I found a orange boy in a tree that I had for 22 years. He was the best cat I ever had.

•

u/beldaran1224 2h ago

Whether OP chooses to socialize the kitten or not, a TNR (trap, neuter, release) would be such a great service to the community. I know on some level its fun to see a bunch of kitties around, but pretty soon you'll see less birds, and the more kitties you see hanging around increases the chances you'll see one hurt.

•

u/wxnfx 2h ago

And the smell. Good lord the pee adds up.

•

u/Fancy_Cold_3537 8h ago

Exactly. I don't think this is an "aww" at all until that little kitten has a home.

•

u/kanrad 3m ago

Please do this as winter is coming and kitten that young might not survive without help.

Plus look at that cute little face how could you not love them?

•

u/Dinx42 12h ago

Feed it, let it trust you, then kidnap the little cutie and give it a home. You will be harassed and loved for the rest of its days.

•

u/mjs56100 12h ago

This is how I got a kitten! I was housesitting for my parents and found this guy in their garden.

Cat distribution system at work

•

u/qawsedrf12 12h ago

That's how I found my youngest

Was living in a tortoise hole for a few day. Noticed the elder was really interested in something on the other side of the screen. I wanted to catch her before the mower crew came. With the help of the elder and some food same came in.

Been almost 15 years now

•

u/HeyYouGuyyyyyyys 10h ago

For heaven's sake. I thought that YOU were the one living in a tortoise hole, and the world I entered for a few seconds was glorious.

•

u/bluestbluebluesky 8h ago

Hahaha me too

u/BigDragonBallz 12h ago

Absolute stealth master, guarding the pumpkins like a tiny fierce bouncer.

u/Thatsayesfirsir 13h ago

Now you have a cat!

•

u/LordOscarthePurr 10h ago

Ooooh I had a grey tree kitten! She’s now an indoor princess.

•

u/iamgeekusa 10h ago

last winter here in cincinnati when we had really deep snow I discovered a young cat living under my back porch, I have hidden stairs that lead to the basement under there and a door that I suspect was warm to sleep against. totally wild, I started leaving food out for it. Now he comes to my door every morning and evening after work for his scoop of food and a fresh dish of water. He likes to sit in my lap and let me pet him now but anytime I take him into the house he moans like a trapped animal so I let him out. I bought a little house with a heated pad and set it up next to my back door on the porch for this winter. I call him Nutmeg. I suspect he's the reason I had no mice last winter for the first time in my old house. He's a good little half wild kitty to have around.

•

u/CatAncient 12h ago

You are correct! Easier to write also.

•

u/Tripdrakony 12h ago

Yeah, if I dont know someone's gender I just use they/them.

•

u/jibbergirl26 12h ago

But I'm not Jesus not much of a prophet but thanks anyway.

•

u/Asfisav2049 12h ago

Idk if you said this as a joke (I'm assuming you did) or if you really thought someone was calling you Jesus

•

u/jibbergirl26 12h ago

It was sarcasm.

•

u/Asfisav2049 12h ago

Figured. just making sure

•

u/driftking428 12h ago

Them is slowly picking you out to be thems person for life.

•

u/notalwaysknowsbest 12h ago

They are picking you out to be their person for life.*

It’s easy if you have a basic understanding of English and don’t write it as obtusely as possible on purpose.

•

u/driftking428 12h ago

I'm not anti pronoun. I just thought it was funny that someone said use "they/them".

Just use they/their make more sense.

Not everything is a battle for social justice.

•

u/jmcwannab 12h ago

How long did it take for that little porch guardian to trust you enough to come out from under the bushes?

Correction:

"Apparently we have a kitten"

•

u/Peaceful-harmony- 8h ago

You misspelled the title. Should read "Apparently we have a kitten living in our house"

•

•

u/Dinx42 10h ago

Wow 👌 🤣 I could read you all day! Confusion on his part as to whether he was a dog or a cat 🤣 Dog impersonation, knifes for hands. All great lines in a great story. You're the catalyst for his random life tho,..... and what a life.x

•

u/duanerenaud 12h ago

He's as curious of the phallic pumpkin as we are.
