Flying over Scotland on 11/10/26. First time seeing something like this - so cool to see!
Seeing it show up as just a halo and then watching the plane’s shadow suddenly appear as we got lower was phenomenal. What’s the technical term for this?

Rainbow laser beam? I've never seen one like this before.

Yesterday (October 9) around 5:21 PM in Crozet, VA, we saw what looked like 5 different rainbows in the sky at the same time!?

They were all in different spots, some much larger and fainter than others, and a couple looked like upside-down rainbows. We watched them for at least 30 minutes. The colors were actually much more vibrant in person, especially with sunglasses on, but my camera didn’t capture all of them very well.

I’m a newbie, but after doing some research, I think it was some kind of complex solar halo display like a sundog?

Chat GPT made the labeled photo and I have no idea if that is correct.

I’m really curious if anyone here can help identify exactly what we saw and how rare it is to see this many at once! I’ve never seen anything like it before.

Saw this in Mount Airy, NC today. The larger halo was too large to fit into a single photo.
