🛠️ Mod Post GHelper/Armoury Crate Megathread

This post has been made to clear up any questions or inconveniences with both of the software control apps.

The old PSA thread has been archived. Click here to go to it.

You can now summon the new GHelper instalation guide by typing "!ghelper" (without "") in the comment section below.

GHelper is an open source alternative maintained by seerge (u/Beginning_Living4052, also has their own flair) which aims to be a lightweight and bug free alternative to the dumpster fire that is Armoury Crate. Note: We are not forcing you to switch, but it is a good thing to do if you are experiencing issues related to Armoury Crate.

Some terminology before we begin:

  • GH = GHelper

  • AC = Armoury Crate

  • A/C = Alternating Current (aka the charger/wall brick)

  • Open Source = the app's code is available for everyone to view and modify.

  • dGPU = Dedicated GPU (aka Radeon or RTX)

  • iGPU = Integrated GPU (aka CPU graphics)

Starting this point onward, I will update this thread to include Frequently Asked Questions.

It is also a great idea to join our official r/asustuf discord server! Click here to join!.

FAQ

Here's a link to the already existing FAQ on Github, but other questions will be added in this megathread too.

A: Is GHelper safe? Windows Defender said it might be a virus.

B: GHelper is safe, in fact, you can check out the app's code on Github. It is open source. If Windows Defender has suspicions, it's because the app isn't signed. (look up that on google.)

A: How do I set up custom fan curves?

B: tba.

Just got this laptop a week back in malaysia ( I'm studying here and my previous laptop broke so yeah )

As far as I've used it till now , it's really great and very apt for my daily work / assignment, project creation , Gaming with friends / Playing solo story games , etc.

I do notice little flaws / recommendations tho but I'm not sure about it :

Battery : kinda drains a little fast sometimes and definitely playing my games all the time with plugged on.

Keyboard: sometimes I can't see the keys ( I need to check up my eyes and wear some power glasses ig ) and feel a little wonky but it does work well overall.

RAM : def need to upgrade / add on one more ram stick of either 16 or 32 cuz ( please let me know guys ) as apparently there's already one single 16 gig ram stick in it and the other one is empty for upgrade.

Display: very very rarely the screen sometimes has a screen tear like similar effect + when plugged in , the display goes off for a sec, like it's very unnoticeable and stuff but I thought something happened to my laptop so was a little concerned at first ( maybe hrz minor errors )

Gotta tweak some settings here and there and let me know anything guys as I've set it up and everything and works well so if I'm missing something Lemme know

Also suggest me some good Mouse to pair up with my Laptop as I didn't bring my mouse here and would like to get one so any suggestions ??

( Budget : 1000 to 2000 INR , 50 to 100 MYR )

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) My Asus laptop stayed on as long as I held down the space bar!

Post image
38 Upvotes

I bought an Asus TUF Gaming F15 FX506LH in early 2022. It was perfect for my video-editing projects and ran demanding apps like Adobe Premiere really well.

Everything worked fine until last December, when the laptop suddenly wouldn’t turn on. I thought the battery was dead, so I plugged it in, but that didn’t help. After pressing different keys, I found that it would start—but as soon as Windows loaded and the desktop appeared, it would shut down again.

Eventually, I discovered that the laptop stays on only while I hold down the space bar. More recently, I found that the Delete key works too. That’s why I put a weight on the keyboard! Apart from this issue, the laptop works perfectly. But keeping a weight on the keyboard is annoying, and I can’t use the built-in keyboard, so I had to buy an external one.

I’ve shown it to a few computer repair technicians, but none of them could figure out the problem. Has anyone experienced something like this? What might be causing it, and how can I fix it?

Need Help! (Software) Sweet Spot of Fan Curves

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello TUF masters! Requesting help, guidance, and suggestions for what could be the sweet spot for setting up my fan curves for gaming and productivity.

I was hesitant at first after buying this laptop 9 months ago, uninstalling AC, and using G-Helper because I'm not much of a geek when it comes to setting up fan speeds, overclocking, or CPU and GPU performance, since it's my first time having a personal computer. I relied more on the modes in AC (Silent + Optimized for Battery, Turbo + Optimized for plugged in). At this moment, I decided to use G-Helper, yet I'm not familiar with how to set up the right curves, which I read in previous Reddit posts that some caused issues with the wrong setup for the software to be used.

I commonly use my laptop for graphic design, multimedia, and gaming. I don't usually use my laptop every day, averaging 4- 5 times a week, 9-10 hours of usage (3-4 hours gaming, 5-6 hours of common tasks such as browsing, office work, editing, multimedia presentation, etc.). I rarely use the DaVinci Resolve app since I'm not much of a video editor.

Multimedia/Productivity software: 1. ProPresenter 2. FreeShow 3. OBS Studio 4. DaVinci Resolve

Games that I play and their graphics settings: 1. World of Tanks: HEAT (Medium) 2. World of Warships (High) 3. Valorant (Medium to High) [only play when some friends invite me] 4. PUBG (Medium) 5. Disney Speedstorm (High) [only played if my nephews and niece request it]

Here's the spec of the model: - Ryzen 7 7745HS - 16 GB RAM DDR5 at 5600 MT/s - RTX 3050 with 4 GB VRAM - 1.5 TB SSD

Please grant me your wisdom

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) ASUS ASP (Raya) refusing warranty repair for proven 'W' key hardware defect [TUF F15 FX507VV]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Laptop: ASUS TUF Gaming F15 (FX507VV)

Location/ASP: Egypt — Raya Smart Care (Smouha)

Status: Laptop held at ASP | Escalated to ASUS EMEA & Consumer Protection Agency (CPA)

The Problem

My 'W' key has hardware key chatter (double-typing and dropping inputs when held down).

The ASP Situation

In-Person Admission: A Raya technician and branch manager tested and confirmed the key defect in person.

Warranty Refusal: Despite admitting the hardware failure, Raya refused to replace the Top-Case assembly because it allegedly "passed software diagnostics."

Escalation: I left the laptop at the branch on quality hold, escalated to ASUS EMEA Corporate, and filed a CPA complaint for warranty breach.

Has anyone successfully gotten ASUS Corporate to override a rogue local ASP? Any advice or visibility from ASUS reps here would be greatly appreciated.

Need Help! (Software) Which distro actually avoids the Wi-Fi driver kernel panics (MT7921)?

Hey everyone,

I’m running an ASUS TUF Gaming F15 and looking for distro recommendations from people with this specific laptop line.

I’m trying to avoid generic "try Mint/Ubuntu" answers because across multiple distributions I've tested, I hit a recurring issue where the wireless driver fails during power state transitions or high loads, triggering a hard kernel panic / system freeze.

For context on my setup:

  • Hardware: ASUS TUF F15 (stock MediaTek MT7921 card)
  • The issue: Wi-Fi driver crashes, PCIe link errors, and system freeze / kernel panics on distros shipping older kernels/firmware.
  • Goal: A distribution that handles this laptop's hardware and modern wireless drivers out of the box with zero Wi-Fi panics.

For those running a TUF F15:

  1. Which distro/kernel has been the most stable for your Wi-Fi (e.g., modern Fedora, rolling Arch/EndeavourOS, or something else)?
  2. Did you have to use specific modprobe options (like disabling PCIe ASPM) to stop the panics completely?
  3. Or did you end up just swapping the card to an Intel AX210?

Appreciate any hands-on user experience!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

What is this happening why is my laptop making sound like this when I turn it on, usually it was happening between 2-3 days now it's almost everyday

I used to shut down and start it again then the sound would go and the fan would start sounding normal

This issue was occurring whenever I put my laptop idle. But when I play games the chances of laptop sounding was very minimal like in very rare occasions.

Today suddenly it started when I boot it up for some work please any solution?

🗨️ Discussion ASUS TUF F15 black screen fixed after years.

Hey guys! I purchased my ASUS TUF F15 from Flipkart in 2019, and after about a year and a half, I started experiencing a strange display issue.

Initially, the screen started flickering, but eventually, it would turn completely black, with only a single line visible at the top of the screen.

I tried almost every possible solution I could find on YouTube and Reddit, but nothing worked.

Here's what I experienced:

  • I could use my laptop only at 60 Hz. Switching to 144 Hz would result in a completely black screen.
  • Even changing the display resolution, whether to a higher or lower setting, would cause the screen to go black.
  • I updated all my graphics drivers, but nothing helped.
  • When turning on my laptop, the ASUS logo wouldn't appear, and I couldn't access or see the BIOS screen. The display would become visible only when Windows started loading.

At that point, I thought the laptop's display panel was failing or that there might be a problem with the display cable.

I did open this laptop with YouTube help unplug and plug the ram again, did similar to laptop monitor cable. + i also change the thermal paste my myself around 2025 feb or march

What happened next?

From November 2025, I started using an external monitor with my laptop. I usually keep the laptop lid open at around a 45-degree angle and continue using the built-in keyboard because I'm more comfortable with it than an external keyboard.

Initially, I noticed something unusual: the ASUS logo started appearing during boot, but the Windows loading animation was extremely laggy. Even the spinning dots beneath the logo seemed to stutter heavily.

However, things gradually improved.

As of today, in October 2026, I can actually change the refresh rate without the display going completely black! 🤯

It's honestly crazy because I had almost given up on the laptop's display ever working properly again.

What could be causing this?

I'm wondering whether the issue could be related to:

  • A faulty or loose display cable.
  • A failing LCD panel.
  • A motherboard or GPU-related issue.
  • A display driver or firmware problem.
  • Some other hardware issue that has somehow improved over time.

I'm not sure whether using the external monitor, keeping the laptop lid at a particular angle, or simply using the laptop regularly has anything to do with this improvement.

One more thing I noticed

At one point, my laptop's Wi-Fi card stopped working, and I now use an Ethernet cable for internet connectivity.

I'm not sure whether this is related to the display issue or the recent improvement, but I thought I'd mention it in case it provides any useful clues.

I'm happy to provide any additional information needed, including my exact ASUS TUF F15 model number, Intel and NVIDIA GPU details, current graphics driver versions, BIOS version, or anything else that might help diagnose the problem.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions or explanations. Has anyone experienced something similar, or does anyone have an idea what could be happening here?

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Driver or GPU failing?

Post image
6 Upvotes

So I have an ASUS TUF A16 (FA607NU 2024) with an RTX4050 and it was working like a charm until about a week ago. Everything started when I closed OpenOMSI. My laptop suddenly started showing some really weird graphical glitches like on the picture and my second screen turned off and said no signal. At some point i had to switch to the Linux Nouveau drivers to keep using the laptop. Recently i switched back to the proprietary Nvidia drivers but the problems came back.
I’m still experiencing random graphical artifacts, sometimes small colored squares appearing on the screen, games crashing for seemingly no reason and occasional severe graphical glitches like the ones shown in the picture.
What makes this even more frustrating is that my previous laptop TUF FX506LH with a core i5 and GTX 1650 is still running Arch perfectly fine even after i accidentally spilled water on it 💀 unfortunately that laptop just isnt powerful enough for my daily tasks anymore which is why i upgraded to the A16 in the first place. Im honestly starting to worry that the RTX4050 might be dying especially because of the colored squares and graphical corruption. But im also wondering if this could just be a driver related issue under Linux. Has anyone experienced something similar with an ASUS TUF or an RTX 4050?
Do these symptoms sound more like a failing gpu/vram or could this still be caused by Nvidia drivers ?
Any advice on how to properly diagnose this would be greatly appreciated. Id really like to avoid replacing the laptop if it’s just a software issue.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) ASUS TUF A-16 Base Popping Out Because of Broken Brass Insert By Right Hinge

Thumbnail
gallery
7 Upvotes

When opening my laptop I noticed the base was popping out on one side (shown in the third image). I flipped it over to inspect and saw the screw was loose there and it wouldn't tighten if I tried screwing it. So then I removed the base and saw what's shown in the first two images. The brass insert where the screw should go has fallen off and the plastic that held it in place has broken into pieces. I tried removing the insert with tweezers but there isn't enough space to pry it out.

Is it a major or minor issue? How can it be fixed?

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Is battery upgrade possible for Tuf A15 FA506NCG ?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I am looking to upgrade the battery on my ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (Model: FA506NCG-HN199W). The system currently yields approximately 5 to 6 hours of runtime on an 80% charge using the factory 48 Wh battery (Model: B31N1726, 11.4V).

I intend to replace it with the larger 90 Wh variant (Model: C41N1906-1, 15.4V). Given the difference in native voltages between these two battery models, can anyone confirm if the motherboard’s power delivery system safely auto-regulates this hardware swap?

Has anyone successfully executed this specific battery swap on this chassis variant?

Thank you for your assistance.

Need Help! (Software) Asus tuf A16 keeps crashing and restarting, when unplugged from powerbank

I am not a computer person. I got this laptop on my father's recommendation so that I could actually game. I need some help because this has turned into my everything laptop. Whenever my laptop is not plugged into a power source, it says it encountered an error and has to restart. It can do this up to seven times in like three hours. I do research on this computer, and now it's getting in the way of my studies. I need help cause I can't get another laptop, and the only recommendation I have gotten is to just factory reset the whole thing. I'm willing to do that if it will work, but I was hoping there was an easier way. I also do love this laptop for gaming; it's great! When it isn't crashing every other second.

Edit: I forgot to mention that when I try to adjust the lighting during gameplay, whether it's plugged in or not, it also crashes.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Asus Tuf A15 (Ryzen 7 7435hs, 4050, and 16gb ddr5) optimization for best/good performance without sacrificing reliability?

I have had G helper for about a year now, but I still dont know how to optimize my Ryzen 7 7435hs and 4050. Any undervolt/overclock that actually works and doesn't sacrifice a lot of performance will be appreciated. I am a noob, so bear with me please!

Other: my laptop fans have zero dust in them, I cleaned them out. I am running a laptop cooler, but im not sure if should run the cooler or jusr raise off the back of my laptop. Maybe both? Also, I have had the laptop for a year, but I am considering swapping to ptm 7950.
