What's a mediocre or just barely good game that once you got to "that moment" it became one of your favourites.

I'll give 2 spoiler- free examples;

As a die hard Resident Evil fan the 7th game didn't immediately grab me due to all the changes in tone, camera and a self insert protagonist, the moment I got to the basement and I felt like I was back in the cramped halls of Spencer Mansion or the RPD. Now it's one of my favourites to run on a semi regular basis and I've managed to get just under 3 hours on madhouse.

Remnant 2's prologue was a bit rough but my buddy insisted I stick it out until I unlocked the option to venture to the other worlds/missions. That first proper run might be the best co-op fun I've had since the launch of Borderlands 3. What began as a roughly 45 minutes slog through what felt like AA MMO design and writing has become our once a fortnightly co-op ritual.

If someone were to build a new free online multiplayer game, what would you actually want to play?

Hey everyone!

I'm planning to build a free browser-based multiplayer game, but instead of jumping straight into development with a random idea, I figured I'd ask the people who would actually play it.

I'm curious about what kind of multiplayer games people genuinely enjoy or wish existed.

It could be anything:

  • A casual board game to play with friends
  • A competitive strategy game
  • A chaotic party game
  • A social deduction or bluffing game
  • Something completely new that hasn't been done before

I'm especially interested in games that are easy to get into but hard to stop playing. Something you could open in your browser, invite a few friends, and have fun without downloading anything.

A few questions:

  1. What's one multiplayer game you never get bored of?
  2. Is there a game concept you wish someone would make?
  3. What makes you keep coming back to an online game?
  4. Would you prefer quick 5–10 minute matches or longer sessions?

I'm open to pretty much any genre. I'm not trying to promote a project or sell anything, just genuinely looking for ideas and understanding what people would enjoy.

If you've ever thought, "I wish there was an online multiplayer game where you could ___," I'd love to hear it!

Thanks in advance!

Switch games with easy language?

I'm learning Spanish as a BEGINNER beginner, so I thought I'd learn Spanish as I did with English, with videogames.

I booted up Stardew Valley and I wanted to cry. It's too high of a level for me right now, so my question is: does anyone know a game that has simpler language in it?

Why do we return to video games?

[Academic] Why do we return to video games? (PC and console players who returned after a break of 6+ months)

Hi! I’m a university student working on RETURN, a visual communication design project about why people return to games they have played before.

You can take part if you returned to a PC or console game originally released before 2020 after a break of at least six months. Mobile games are not included in this study.

Please answer about your most recent return that meets these conditions. Your responses will help me create an interactive project combining data visualizations and players’ stories.

Game reviewers: How are games assigned to you?

Hey everyone!

I wanted to ask a question to those who write game reviews for any outlet (no need to name names).

I've been curious about how game reviews work for a while now, and a question came to mind: When you're given a game to review, is it usually based on your personal preferences and interests, or are games just randomly assigned to you?

If there's anything else you can share about the process without getting yourself into trouble, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks a lot!

No PlayStation on pc

I don’t know if this is the proper place to ask or where that be but here’s my confusion with the controversy regarding it , I don’t remember where I’ve heard it, but wasn’t there like a very high chance that steam would be coming to and be able to run on an X box main console allowing you to also play PlayStation games and that was why PlayStation stopped porting to pc to prevent from multiple of their titles being played on an x box. Or where such rumors always unfounded and proberly not true.

Thank you for reading and answering.

Have video games turned anyone else into a bit of a history nerd?

I've always had a soft spot for games set in some real period of history, even when they play it pretty loose when it comes to accuracy (Assassin's Creed and stuff like that). When the game is good, I can't help but go and read up on the actual history afterwards.

And it didn’t have to be a setting or period I already had interest in. Westerns for example were my dads thing, he tried to get me to watch western movies with him and I tried but they were just boring to me. Then Red Dead Redemption came out and much to my dads joy I actually got interested in that stuff (I probably know more about the history than he does now, he knows the movies), and after RDR2 it basically became my favorite setting and still is. I’m playing Blood West right now (immersive sim and great game btw) and I can’t wait for The Dark West to come out. It’s an ARPG with a mix of western and occult themes which is a dream combination for me.

I did this as a kid too. Age of Empires 2 was probably my first real history teacher, because the campaigns were basically little lessons with a voiceover. Joan of Arc, Saladin, William Wallace were all familiar to me from AoE 2 before they ever came up in school, and Medal of Honor: Allied Assault taught me a lot about WW2 (probably more than school did). So I was always a bit ahead in history class, but only for the stuff that was in the games I played. If every subject in school had video games covering the lessons I think I would have done way better, my history teachers loved me hahahah.

Is anyone else like this? I don’t know if most people playing historic games actually even pay attention to the setting/story or if it's more just like a “theme” or “flavor” for them. I love actually learning about the real stuff and then seeing it ingame.
