Just stumbled on this community. I'm old enough to have enjoyed many a anime on VHS.

Just looking through old things recently and found this movie I got for free at a convention like senior year of high school (2000-2001).

It's uhmm not that good of a movie to say the least. Had interesting moments. It's made by a Japanese studio but think in conjunction with an American company and based off a FPS video game. Just thought it was a weird random movie I owned.

at least the full dubbed collection, i am not trying to track down a subbed copy of end of eva haha. all the episodes have the white shell, and the sleeves are in immaculate shape. bonus perfect blue because there was a one tape sized gap on the entertainment center.

I just moved recently to a much smaller place, and figured I'd show my collection here after doing a lot of downsizing. The VHS tapes are at the very top and on the bottom 3 rows. A mix of Japanese and English anime VHS, along with a set of custom Sailor Moon tapes I made, and even a couple of anime Betas!

My favs are wicked city, demon city Shinjuku and lily CAT.

I'll be parting with some of these if anyone sees something they're interested in let me know

I searched for 6 months to find volume 4, on to search for volume 5 now

Went to a retro store and saw they had ghost in the shell VHS for 30 dollars

Of all the fever-dream english dubs we were blessed with over the years, very few make me laugh as much as this one.

Still looking for that Berserk volume 1!

Gave myself a budget of 215 last night on an auction for a graded Akira vhs tape. Final sell was 222. Felt like I let one get away… at the same time I don’t make enough to justify dropping that much on something I can’t even watch but the ungraded ones go up to $240 from what I can see. Does vhs grading have a future and shout I keep looking into graded tapes or stick with my sealed/ unsealed collection (I don’t own a graded tape as of now).

P.S. this is the second official release that was dubbed in English with the first being a special release and a recent sale sealed at $1100 with this version ranging at $150-240. Really wish there was an app or software like collectr or PriceCharting for vhs tapes

Whilst the only proper physical release of the film is the French DVD from 2006, it did receive a semi-official VHS release in 1994 to coincide with its screening in cinemas (up until then it was only shown at specific private events.)

As stated in this twitter thread from the account of Kiryukan (director Hiroshi Harada's company): https://x.com/kiyubaru/status/1204761990654070785

Several independent filmmakers at the time were concerned about Harada's hospitalization and living expenses, and suggested to him that they release a VHS version of "Shoujo Tsubaki" and give a general theatrical release of the film rated by the Eirin (film censorship board) as a way to raise money. Harada initially strongly opposed this, but he desperately needed the money for his hospitalization and other expenses, so he eventually agreed. With the cooperation of a cult shop in Koenji, it was decided that the VHS tapes would be sold at a high price of around 5,000 yen each (the exact figure varies depending on the records at the time). Since J.A. Seazer, who was in charge of the music, was a member of JASRAC, all the music used had to be registered with JASRAC for the video release. In the end, a portion of Harada's medical expenses were reimbursed through a high-cost medical expense claim. Harada couldn't bear the high price he was selling the VHS tapes for and the fact that the underground work was taking on a life of its own, so he stopped after selling about 20 copies, defying the opposition of the cult shop. The screening at Nakano Musashino Hall was also cancelled midway because they didn't have the resources to implement the script for an extended period.

Despite the Eirin theatrical version being cut down to 47 minutes with blurring also applied to certain scenes, this VHS version seems to be the same as the Ciné Malta DVD at just over 48 minutes. This tape is marked as "video footage for commercial use - main screen & sound", presumably this was used to prevent any legal hassle with releasing an unrated film.

I have had this in my collection for over 20 years

I collect anime vhs and this one is by far my rarest. every time I see this on ebay, which total has been 3 times including when I bought it, its listed over $300. Luckily I got a good deal for this one but regardless. Theres hardly any record of this on vhs that I can find online because it was mainly released on dvd. I definitely do have other stuff that comes close to this though in rarity

I've spent lots of time waiting and watching, and even more money, building this collection. My rarest additions to this this far have been the genocyber movie, Akira on widescreen, Bomber bikers of shonan, the 3rd vampire hunter d tape, the 3rd Gunsmith cats tape, baoh, the full Trigun collection, the street fighter 2 movie special edition, and the entirety of the dragon ball collection of course. For my dbz collection all I need is the og dragon ball tapes as well as the gt lost tapes. I'd also like to complete genocyber some day

The story is admittedly not amazing, but I watch these a few times a year. Fantastic animation and colors, decent music and a good enough story if you’re a fan of old school Final Fantasy games. Highly recommended

Are you a cereal salesman that also fell in love with an androgynous green-haired space vampire? Cause boy, do I have an OVA for you.

Was not expecting to find all this heat…

Always ask!

A couple of fresh, local online marketplace listings. Another case of "I know what I have".

The seller also says they won't cover postage, even while asking for such a price and even says that there is no room for haggling-- and if you do, the price goes up.

Also the tapes are untested, of course, which makes sense for such a high price point.

The 550€ is sealed though, so.... Fair?
