Let’s see what the community uses the most!
Quick clarification: with "amp sims" I mean traditional amp modelling that let you adjust amp parameters with knobs like the real thing. "Captures/profiles" are snapshots of amps at specific settings (NAM, ToneX, Kemper profiles, etc.).

Hey everyone,
After keeping r/ampsims private for a long time (mostly as a private little corner of the internet), I’ve decided it’s time to open the doors and turn this into a real community for anyone who loves amp sims, profiling, IRs, modelers, and everything related.
Whether you’re deep into Neural DSP, ToneX, Quad Cortex, Line 6 Helix, NAM, Amplitube, S-Gear, Nameless plugins, freeware gems, or you’re still hunting for the perfect high-gain tone on a budget – this is the place to share presets, ask questions, post clips, geek out over new releases, and help each other get better tones.
Be excellent to each other. We’re all chasing great tone in our own way – there’s no single “right” plugin or signal chain. Respect different tastes, budgets, and experience levels. Helpful criticism is welcome, gatekeeping and toxicity are not.
If you’re a developer, content creator, or seller and you want to share something you made or sell, that’s totally fine – just be 100% upfront about it (affiliate link, your own product, sponsored, etc.). No stealth marketing or fake “just discovered this” posts. Transparency keeps everything cool.
I haven’t been super active in the amp-sim world lately, so I’d love some enthusiastic, level-headed people to join the mod team and help shape the place. If you’re regularly around, love the topic, and want to keep the subreddit helpful and friendly, shoot me a modmail or comment below.
That’s it! Feel free to make this your new home for all things amp simulation. Introduce yourselves, drop your favorite plugin at the moment, or just post that tone you’ve been proud of.
Let’s make some (virtual) tubes glow!

I am working on a series where I am going to compare/shootout 16 different 5150/6505 amp sims. All the rounds will be shorts and the final will be a longform video.
I am also toying with the idea of letting the audience vote on what should make it to the next level.
Would this be something you guys would be interested in?

Hey, I’m the creator of ForgeEFX DL-1. If you use NAM captures and want your effects in the same rack, that’s what I’ve been building.
This is a few short guitar examples through NAM, phaser, drive and echo. You load your own NAM captures, and you can arrange effects in serial or parallel. It runs on Windows and Mac as a VST3 or standalone.
The free download is here: https://www.forgeefx.com/#free-version
Happy to answer questions about the routing or setup.

Vendor disclosure: I’m Matt from Mattfig, and this is one of my commercial capture packs.
I just finished capturing a real 1965 Thunderbolt for Line 6 Proxy. The complete pack has 12 clones:
- High and Low inputs
- Low-, mid- and high-gain settings
- Six captures through the original Jensen C15P 1×15 speaker
- Six DI captures for use with another cabinet or IR
The amp has a broad low end, woody midrange and rounded attack. As the gain comes up, it develops a really distinctive ragged vintage breakup.

Complete $24.99 pack:

I captured and tested every setting myself. I’m happy to answer technical questions about the capture process or the original amp.

I wanted to do a a blind test between 4 different tiers of metal amp sims and see if you really needed to spend a ton of money to get a great sound. I compared 4 amp sims ranging from free to $129. It is blind in the beginning but I reveal which is which at the end.
If you like this and you have ideas for other vids like this, let me know. I love doing stuff like this. I know I want to compare a bunch of different amp sims that are based on the same original amp (see which engl sim is the best, see which diezel sim is the best, I’m doing a 16 man bracket for 5150 sims).

Just dropped a video featuring some of my favorite new high-gain amps from the GENOME 2.1 update! Which tone was your favorite? Let me know in the comments.

Here’s a quick little shootout. I love them both but I’m partial to the mid-focus of the 6606+

This thing is a chug machine. I love it so much.

I wanted to get a real distortion pedal rather than a amp pedal and i was wondering if there are huge differences between them or if physical is better

Asking the big questions here. Does Canvas Audio’s Zenbox, an amp designed for pop punk and emo, actually chug? We’re here to find out!
