What happened to the Buried Marie project?

Post image

One of my favourite ambient/drone albums is Decreptitude by the buried marie project. I first found it on youtube about a month after it was released and i fell in love instantly. The quality of the composition, the harmony within tracks, even though each track is a wonder... all beautiful! Someone even said it was Basinski-esque, couldn't agree more.

Anyway, i tried finding it on yt to share with a friend.. nothing. No account, no works, just the Decreptitude album on bandcamp. Am i looking in the wrong places? Is my phone bugged out?

Any help or info is greatly appreciated, thanks guys :)

Is it worth learning to master your own music, or should you hire someone?

Hey everyone, I'm a small artist with basically no audience, and I'm getting ready to release some music. I've been wondering about mastering.

Is it worth the time to learn how to do it myself? Or is it one of those things where you're better off just paying someone who knows what they're doing?

And if hiring is the way to go, how does that usually work? Do you just send them your mix and they send back a master? How much does it typically cost? What should I look out for? Do you usually get revisions?

I'd love to hear from people who've tried both. Did you start out doing it yourself and then switch to a pro? Or did you always hire someone? Any advice would be appreciated.

Question hat happened to Apollo Records (the Belgian R&S sub-label), and what do you think of “Xtal”?

  1. I’ve been reading about Apollo Records, the ambient sub-label of Belgian label R&S. I’m curious what happened to it. From what I’ve found, founder Renaat Vandepapeliere shelved it for a while because he felt he was listening to the same records and sounds over and over, then reactivated it in 2009. Does anyone know more about its history and its current status?
  2. I’d also love to hear your opinions on “Xtal” from Selected Ambient Works 85–92. What do you think of it? Is it a highlight of the album for you, and why? Does it sound like “ambient” to you, or does it feel closer to the techno side? Any memories or thoughts about it are welcome.

I really enjoy this style of ambient. It’s a mix of found recordings, synth, and orchestra. Any other similar artists/albums I should check out? Thanks in advance!

Looking for Recommendations HiFi setup for listening

I'm curious to ask those that have a Hifi setup for listening to ambient soundscapes. What HiFi setup are you using?

I'm looking into a HiFi setup to compliment an experience I'm curating. I'm not sure how to classify the types of ambient music this is but the artists I gravitate towards most is Mount Shrine and Brian Eno.

I did go to high end stores and check out some sound. So far I've landed on KEF R3 Meta with KEF KC62 subwoofer.

I'd like some more recommendations and tips on creating deep meditative soundscapes and the right audio setup for a professional experience.

Production/Recording Discussion Experimenting with plant signals, a Roland JU-06A and ambient in ableton

I've been experimenting with a setup that routes signals from plants into a Roland JU-06A, using ableton as the environment for the whole routing and production process.

The idea was to explore what happens when variations coming from a living organism become part of an ambient composition. The plant signals feed into the setup, while the JU-06A provides the synth textures, drones and evolving layers. I also incorporated 396 Hz as a tonal and conceptual reference for the piece.

What interested me most was the relationship between the parts I could control as a producer and the variations coming from the plants. Rather than trying to make the plants “play music” on their own, I wanted to build a system where their signals could influence the musical process. If you are intrested on listen what was the result I'll leave it here & on my profile!

I'm curious how other people here approach generative ambient, unconventional MIDI routing or biofeedback-inspired sound design.

Have any of you experimented with plants or other non-traditional control sources in your setups?

Summvs is the fifth collaboration album between Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto. The record was first released in 2011 and is the fifth and final installment of the ‘Virus Series’. The title Summvs refers to the Latin word “summa” (eng. sum) and “versus” (eng. towards), and serves as a metaphor for the work being oriented towards a collaborative result. The album features “Microon” compositions containing recordings of a 16th tone interval tuning piano—Piano Metamorfoseador Carrillo en Dieciseisavos de Tono. The album also features two covers of the track “By This River” originally composed by Brian Eno, Dieter Moebius, and Hans-Joachim Roedelius in 1977.
