Dons are staying up ole ole!

That’s it, that’s the post. We’ve got 53 points, maximum that Exeter can get is 52. Party time on the 2nd.

The low-scoring games are making it hard to judge where this Wimbledon side stands

• Upvotes

There have been a few tight league games in this opening stretch, including the 0-0 against MK Dons and the 1-1 at Cambridge. I actually like that Wimbledon can stay in games, but there is a difference between being difficult to beat and giving ourselves enough chances to win.

I don't want us to abandon what's working defensively just to chase goals. I'd rather see us get better at turning those close matches into wins. Is the next step improving the attacking play, or is patience the right approach?

Discussion Seven goals in nine league games is the bit that worries me

We're sitting 11th, which isn't a bad position at this stage, but seven goals in nine league matches stands out to me. We've had some good results, yet I keep wondering whether we can afford to rely on narrow wins and draws for an entire season.

I'm not asking for Wimbledon to suddenly become a team scoring three every week. I'd just like to see us create more clear chances and put games to bed when we're on top.

Do you think the low goal return is a genuine concern, or is the defensive solidity worth prioritising for now?

Wimbledon need to be more solid when protecting a lead

The Plymouth defeat has made me think about how we manage games after taking the lead. Stockley scored early, and Wimbledon had something to protect, but conceding in the 94th minute meant all that work counted for nothing. Defending a lead isn't just about sitting deep and clearing the ball. We need to keep possession when possible and avoid giving the opposition too many chances to build pressure. They had 18 shots compared with our 14, so there is room to improve without ignoring the positives. I'd rather see us learn from this now than keep dropping points in the same way. Do you prefer Wimbledon to keep attacking after taking the lead or focus more on controlling the game?

The late goal at Plymouth hurts, but Wimbledon showed they can compete with the best in this league

Losing 2–1 after conceding so late is honestly gutting. As someone who loves football, I thought Wimbledon had a real chance of getting something out of this game after Stockley put us ahead. Taking the lead away at Plymouth showed that we can compete and cause problems for strong sides, which makes the late defeat even harder to accept. In my opinion, the biggest frustration is letting all that hard work go to waste in the final minutes. These are the games where concentration and game management really matter. There were positives in the performance, but we need to start turning them into points. Hopefully, the lads can bounce back against Sheffield Wednesday and show the same fight for the full 90 minutes. Was this more about Plymouth stepping up when it mattered, or did Wimbledon throw away a result we should have taken something from?

Going to our first match

My wife and I are coming from the US to London for our honeymoon and have tickets to the match vs Mansfield Town on October 20th. We're very excited! My wife has never been to a football match before. We want to go for dinner at a local pub beforehand. Where should we go? What is a good supporters pub in walking distance? Is there anything we should do (or not do) at the stadium or before the match? Thank you!

The Barnet shootout was frustrating, but I am more bothered about the red card.

Going out on penalties after a goalless game at home is disappointing, especially after losing 8-7 in the shootout. But the incident involving Alistair Smith has probably left more questions than the result itself. I have not made my mind up on the whole situation, and I would rather see the footage properly than judge it from a short clip. What did people at the ground make of it?

Three goals and an assist in September, directly involved in four of the Dons’ five league goals during the month. Fully deserved. Good luck, Jayden!

A humble request to join the fandom

Soon to be friends, I have bought tickets to the AFC Wimbledon Mansfield City match. My fiancee and I are honeymooning around Ireland, Scotland, and ending in London. I was able to grab tickets and I’m beyond excited for my first English Football experience.

I’ve been an “Arsenal fan” since high school because I was horrid at fifa and could only score goals with Theo Walcott.

But now, with this match, I’ll have a fun link to the club. And so now I humbly petition to join your ranks.

Any tips or advice for my first match would be appreciated and looking forward to it!

Discussion Which player should be the key man for Wimbledon against Plymouth?

Plymouth away could be one of those games where one player makes the difference. They will be a tough opponent, so the Dons will need their key players to step up. Who do you see as Wimbledon’s key man on Saturday, and who needs a big performance to help us get a result?

How’s the Plough Lane atmosphere feeling for you this season compared to Kingsmeadow?

Obviously, getting back home was massive, but now that we’ve had a few seasons there, I’m curious how everyone feels it compares with Kingsmeadow. For those who go regularly, which stand do you think has the best atmosphere at the moment? And do you think there’s anything the club or fans could do to get the place even louder?

Will there be any crowd for EFL Cup?

I'm looking to go to the match against Barnet, but will there be much atmosphere? Worth going? Visiting from Canada.

Discussion What was your first AFC Wimbledon game and did it hook you straight away?

Mine was at Kingsmeadow. My uncle took me when I was about ten, and I spent the first half more interested in the burger van than the football. Then the crowd started singing and something clicked. I've been going ever since.

I still think that noise is what made me a fan, not the result. What was yours, and how long did it take you to get hooked?

Disappointed with the 1-1 at Cambridge, but four games unbeaten is progress

Taking a point away at the Abbey Stadium isn't the worst result on paper, but after leading through the first half, it felt like two points dropped. That being said, we’re 4 matches unbeaten across League One (with clean sheets against Doncaster and MK). What do you think is missing from this side at the moment?

Heading down to Plymouth for the 12:30 kick-off - travel advice?

Who else is doing the early morning coach or making the long drive down? Also, are there any decent pubs around Home Park that welcome away fans and are open early enough before kick-off?

Discussion Which player has improved the most since the start of the season?

Now that we've had eight league games, who looks noticeably better than they did during the opening few matches?

Could be someone who's become more confident, someone who's adapted to the system, or even a player who has simply started getting more involved.

Who stands out to you?

Zak Bradshaw's 90+1' goal.. how did we let Pelly Ruddock get that cross in?

Watching the replay of their equaliser and it's so frustrating. Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu had way too much space on the flank to put that ball across, and Bradshaw just ghosted in at the far post unmarked.

We defend so well for 90 minutes and then completely switch off right at the death. We have to tighten up those wide areas late on in matches.
